Leonardo Dicaprio
He first became conscious of the predicament of the earth as a child after seeing films about the destruction of rainforests. He also envisioned himself as a marine biologist.
In 1998, he established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation to support groups and activities dedicated to ensuring our planet's long-term viability. He has remained involved and active on the most critical challenges that we confront. By producing documentaries and projects to raise awareness.
DiCaprio was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace in September 2014, with an emphasis on climate change.
The Ocean Cleanup
The Ocean Cleanup is a non-profit group that develops technologies to capture plastic garbage and keep it out of the oceans. Boyan Slat, a Dutch innovator, launched The Ocean Cleanup at the age of 18 in his birthplace of Delft, the Netherlands.
The well-known Mega Expedition occurred in August 2015, when a flotilla of 30 ships reached the Pacific rubbish island. Trawl blankets were employed during the expedition to measure the concentration, distribution, and range of the debris.
Recently, they have launched System 03 or, as they like to call it, Josh. It is a 2.2 km long floating barrier that collects plastics floating in the ocean, and flows towards the center of the system where all trash is collected. It is intended to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
It is vital to address the issue of plastic contamination in our oceans. This plastic not only harms marine life and ecosystems, but it can also enter our food chain, posing potential health problems.
AUTUMN PELTIER
Autumn Peltier is a young Canadian activist for water rights and safe drinking water. She was born on Manitoulin Island and is a member of the Wikwemikong community, one of Canada's First Nations.
Autumn was eight years old when she attended a water ritual in which it was urged not to drink it without first boiling it. At the time, she discovered that many people did not have access to this resource, and she was also concerned about how it was consumed because it was not always drinkable. She has advocated for impactful causes such as access, water conservation, and the fight against the environmental emergency.
Her great aunt, Josephine Mandamin, who founded the Mother Earth Water Walkers movement and fought for the conservation of the Great Lakes until her death, inspired her. Peltier was later chosen chief water commissioner by the Anishinabek Nation in April 2019, a position formerly held by her great-aunt Mandamin.
WATER
This poem compares two realities. The ones who live with privilege and those who do not even know if they will be able to go to sleep with a full stomach. Some verses tell the privileged to stop for a moment and think about their actions. And scolding them for treating natural resources like “an endless supply”.Â
I see this piece as nature's cry for help to bring the reader to his senses. And to start the process of changing for good. As the author wrote, “by just helping one person”. They also connected water with other global issues like poverty and hunger, which indeed are related.
Briefly, it is crucial for every kind of human to pay attention to those little details around us. Like droughts, unnecessary use of water, global warming, and more. Taking little steps now, means huge changes for tomorrow.

Understanding the Importance of Water Conservation.
This article aims to explain water conservation, its importance, and methods to be used to reduce our consumption of this natural resource.
Like mentioned above, this article views water as a primary resource for us living beings. There begins its importance. Because of many problems like misuse, pollution, and global warming, this resource is in huge danger. As an extra, it explains why using ocean water is a tricky way of guiding the issue, because the process it goes through is very expensive it makes it impractical.
The author gives a bunch of examples on how to conserve water, from “conservation methods like water monitoring and conservation-friendly building codes instituted by the government, to strategies for everyday people”. Like updating agricultural methods to adhere to water-efficient systems or water redistribution.
Sure, there are lots of other actions that we can take to combat this cause. But I consider that the first step is to raise awareness and learn. Else, we could end up like a huge dessert with no life to be seen.
Why Should I Save Water?
This is a short kid’s book created by Jen Green, which relates how a family transformed their lives after one of the son’s friends told him about the waste of water issue.Â
Green mentions that teaching kids about environmental problems like wasting water is important to prevent it from getting worse in the future. And she also gives some recommendations for kids on how to save water. For example:
Shower instead of taking a bath.
Put a brick in the toilet.
Turn the faucet off when not using it.
Doing full loads of laundry.
I consider that this book could also demonstrate how even kids could make a change in their families, and maybe in the entire world. Personally, I liked how simple and entertaining the author explained this issue for the little ones.
How did I save water yesterday?
I turned off the faucet while brushing my teeth during my daily routine and turned off the shower when I finished my business. I went to school and went out with my friends. When I came home, I ate lunch and did the dishes, using just the right amount of water.
