Congrats to members of theĀ Town of Westford, Massachusettsā newly reinstated Agricultural CommissionĀ for entering and winning our carrotoke contest. They're using their song and the $500 prize to raise support for a new community garden program happening in their town. Bravo!
Attendees at the Fort de Chartres Winter Rendezvous performing the carrotoke song Country Life to benefit the Fort de Chartres Heritage Jardin Potager Project. Videographer, Renea Davis.
We love the caption on this #carrotoke photo: "They love it, they just donāt know it yet!"Ā
This performance comes courtesy of the fun folks at Springbank Community Gardens located at The rare Charitable Research Reserve in Cambridge, Ontario. Rock on!

Here's a beautifully soulful rendition of Gershwin's Summertime. Jen, the singer, also does a great job explaining the rules of the challenge: 1) sing 2) nominate other singers and 3) donate. Thanks! Ā http://youtu.be/YFb-ziXXjIU
Well done, Colby Eight!
Brendan's not only a great musician (http://www.brendantaaffe.com), but also a great sport agreeing to an impromptu #carrotoke encore after the show. He has passed the carrot baton over to singer/dancer/fiddler Mollie Gawler. Let's see if she heeds the call!Ā
Members of St. Nick's Episcopal Church in Scarborough, Maine have accepted our challenge to sing into carrots for a "higher cause". Congregation members are not only walking the talk but singing it too by starting a food garden project on the church's grounds which will grow food for the Scarborough Food Pantry. Amen!

Invite/tag 3 other fun-loving, carrot-crunching friends to do the same
Make a tax-deductible donation to give healthy food gardens (and carrots!) to folks in need here: http://carrotoke.org/donateĀ
Carrotoke mics fall into two main categories.
This KGI supporter shows just how simpleĀ #carrotokeĀ can be. Thanks, Jeff, for being a good sport. You get bonus points for growing your own mic!

OK - Let's do this - Here I am singing to my Kale (not JJ, but tasty!) and asking friends to join in and support SeedMoney - Roger is an inspired leader of this very creative cause doing good work all over the world - so grab a carrot and sing!! #carrotoke Certainly this is perfect for The Gawler Sisters, Bennett Konesi and Whiffletree (maybe for a chorus or carrot pulling worksong!??)
Hayley Williams of the band Paramore is a #carrotoke pioneer. For years now, she's been turning her mic mics into carrot mics by wrapping them in bright orange tape.Ā

Youād be hard pressed to find a better song to sing into a carrot than this one by Maine folk singer, David Mallet. Itās appropriately called āThe Garden Songā (available here: Amazon, iTunes, Google Play) and has become a modern-day folk classic. Ā Weāve pasted the lyrics below because we know you want to sing along!
ā-
Ā Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground
Ā And inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
Till the rains comes tumblinā down
Ā Pullinā weeds and pickinā stones
We are made of dreams and bones
Feel the need to grow my own
āCause the time is close at hand
Ā Grain for grain, sun and rain
Find my way in natureās chain
Tune my body and my brain
To the music from the land
Ā Plant your rows straight and long
Temper them with prayer and song
Mother earth will make you strong
If you give her love and care
Ā An old crow watching hungrily
From his perch in yonder tree
And in my garden Iām as free
As that feathered thief up there
Ā And inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground
Ā Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
Till the rains comes tumblinā down
