Breaking Routines With New Routines
@caronewt
During my time at Hangar, I have been examining how I approach my creative practice. I have tackled the idea that a (final) product equals completion and success. Instead, I am focusing on the process — not product — to form the identity of my work (eying the journey not the destination, so to speak). This method has led to my exploring a new language and framework around my performance practice. I have documented gestures of movement through drawings (redefining the concept of a map), writings (personal scripts, prompts, manuals, etc.) and sometimes video. My focus on process has led to my replacing passive personal habits with a new manual of rituals I created for myself to follow. I intend for my process-oriented thinking to continue after my time at Hangar and for it to become the foundation for a new, more deliberate approach to my performance practice.
