thoughts
What I find really fascinating it that when you start reading more books and expanding on your knowledge, you start expanding your interests in certain subjects. Before, when I spent less time reading I had a very limited capacity for certain subjects, but now that I am reading more – no subject seems to small. One of the people that I have grown to look to for inspiration is Elon Musk, largely because with people like Elon. I believe that he has found a balance that is very hard for most people to achieve, this idea of capitalist scientific pursuits. When you think Tesla Motors, you largely think of a sustainable car, but what’s the business model for it? Or you think about his Solar projects, or Space projects – a vast variety of projects that are about sustainable energy, it should provide hope to the next generations that are coming through that saving the planet, can also be a viable business idea.
How did you become the Keeper of the Flame of Science and the wisdom of Sagan?
I am less than hardly the keeper of the flame of science and/or the wisdom of Carl Sagan my friend; however, I will definitely take the compliment. We - all of us who continue to spark others’ curiosity/interest in STEM and the cosmic perspective - we are the continual fosters and “keepers of the flame” (originally ignited by Carl, among many others) while sharing and promoting good science.
Joe (of It’s Okay To Be Smart) provided us with insight into this very thing when he passed on some knowledge provided by Neil deGrasse Tyson during weekly celebrations of Carl Sagan Day at the Library of Congress:
“Who are we if not measured by our impact on others? That’s who we are. We’re not who we say we are; we’re not who we want to be; we are the sum of the influence and impact that we have in our lives on others.
Several of you have asked…wherever you are Carl…Carl is here.”
Adding to this and reinforcing this point: Carl is us. His wisdom, his insight, and his humility acquired via the cosmos, is payed forward with every human being we inspire toward their own curiosity.
Stay curious* and thanks for the love.

Happy Carl Sagan Day. Share COSMOS: A Personal Voyage and COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey with someone today, and introduce them to their significance.

“Every kid starts out as a natural-born scientist, and then we beat it out of them. A few trickle through the system with their wonder and enthusiasm for science intact.”

A Personal Update:
If anyone wants to learn more about my NASA projects, NASA internship, satellite research/development, my attempts at making remote telescopes, or my daily science life (I do space stuff every day), I’m going to start using twitter more! https://twitter.com/piepieninja or you can just ignore this! You do you!
obligatory Carl Sagan gif:
Drunk History tells the story of Voyager, the Golden Record, and how Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan fell in love. It’s everything you could hope for.
