We often hear the term "Occulture"—but what does it truly mean? More than just references to magic in popular media, occulture describes the merging of occult thought and broader cultural currents, forming a dynamic scene in which underground forces unmistakably rise to shape the mainstream, as they have throughout history and likely always will. What drives this recurring phenomenon, and why do we find ourselves increasingly immersed in occult themes today?

Join Carl Abrahamsson—the scholar behind the books ”Occulture: The Unseen Forces That Drive Culture Forward” (2018) and ”Introduction to Occulture” (2026), who famously presented himself as an "occultural entrepreneur" already on his 1989 business card—as he guides us through a survey of magnetic magical themes and the visionary individuals who have shaped our culture. 

The course encompasses contemporary perspectives, including dynamic collectives like Thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth and pop culture, and explores the broader process of "occulturation," in which ideas and concepts migrate from hidden spheres into everyday life, touching every dimension of human society. Today, occulture is even studied within academia, a definitive marker of mainstream integration.

In this unique and illuminating class, you'll learn directly from Abrahamsson, an author and magician who has spent over four decades observing and manifesting ocultural movements. Carl Abrahamsson is the author of 20+ books, many of which deal with his many decades of working with occulture and magic. He is also the editor and publisher of the occultural journal ”The Fenris Wolf” (1989-present day).

”Esoteric traditions insist that every working generates residue. Power raised must be grounded; spirits called must be dismissed. Platforms provide no such hygiene. There are no built-in banishing rites for a tidal wave of prurient projection. Some creators invent their own: periodic disappearances, ritual blockings, symbolic cleanses. Others succumb. Online, one sees sudden breakdowns on livestream, final posts tinged with exhaustion, abrupt deactivations. These are the nervous crashes of priestesses whose sanctuaries are also marketplaces that never close. You can often hear, ”I’m leaving this platform!” With everyone responding in-between the lines, ”Oh Yeah?””

New episode of The Fenris Wolf Podcast:

In episode 9 of the Fenris Wolf Podcast, Carl Abrahamsson reflects on the significance of beginnings, particularly the start of a new year. He explores the human tendency to seek meaning in the arbitrary calendar reset and acknowledges the ancient narratives surrounding beginnings and endings, such as the cosmic egg and the phoenix. In today’s WEEKLIES at our Patreon, I write about the wisdoms of walking the dog:

After initially meeting Vanessa in New York in 2013 (at the launch of my novel Mother, Have a Safe Trip), we kept in touch. I invited her to send something for The Fenris Wolf, and she did: a great piece for no 7 on psychoanalysis & dada. What a cool lady!

She asked if I wanted to collaborate on a conference about the intersection between Psychoanalysis, Art & the Occult. Sure thing! Again, what a cool lady! I then visited New York again in February 2016 to lecture at the Occult Humanities conference at NYU and also at Morbid Anatomy in Brooklyn – where Vanessa had just started doing evenings and events, as well as working with lovely artist Katelan Foisy on all things cut-up. It was a wide open door into a very wonderful world for me, and one in which I still work and thrive.

At that first time, I talked about my photo series ”Death is in our Hearts” which was kind of perfect for the ”morbids”. Vanessa also threw me a loft party after this great event and we looked forward to creating and hosting our own conference together – which we did in London in May of 2016. This was also the moment of our amorous union, and since then nothing has really been the same – in the best possible sense.

We’ve arranged three ”psychartcult” conferences (London 2016, Merano 2019, Copenhagen 2022) and a great number events, classes, talks and lectures (many of which have been care of Morbid Anatomy), plus Vanessa’s psychoanalytic empire at Rendering Unconscious, our Patreon, our Substacks, and many other creative projects.

So much more could be written about our collaborations during this first decade, but I’ll save that for a rainy day. However, I do want to thank all of our supporters, subscribers, and patrons – we greatly appreciate your support!
