 “Up to a thousand refugees are feared to have drowned in recent days while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea. The United Nations say this marks one of the highest weekly death tolls since the migrant crisis began in 2014.UNICEF says many of the victims were youth fleeing war and violence in their home countries. 

The majority of the refugees were from Eritrea, Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan.”

“Nobody gives a shit about black lives” spare us. Europeans on here have been trying to talk about the refugees and migrants crisis since 2013 and the posts barely reached hundreds of notes, mostly from other Europeans. 

Only in 2016, 206.400 people have reached Europe. 156.782 in Greece and 48.527 in Italy, incidentally among the poorest countries in Europe that cannot cope with the amount of people coming in. Europe, by the way, is a mess. In a very simplistic way: the problem is that a different is made between refugees and migrants, both reaching Europe by sea. While European countries accept a number of refugees, they don’t accept migrants, while Italy and Greece save both. (The alternative is to the let them drown.) And do you think these people integrate in society? Most live in shelters and tents. Many are homeless. Many are victims of human trafficking. For the smugglers, human trafficking is more lucrative than drugs.

The United States have accepted less than 2000 people from Syria, 6000 from Myanmar and 5000 from Iraq. That makes it around a bit more than 10,000 people.
