Grace gets brought to thrums with Adrian and Rocky, not because he’s invited, but because they got him a Service Animal vest. No you don’t want to know what Rocky will be like without his emotional support. We don’t talk about that. He’s really strong for a guy his size. The human is safe omfg plz don’t pet him tho! He’s working!! Rocky gets jealous! You know what? Maybe polite society can take a few steps back for a couple years, we need a moment.
Seen a bunch of fics where they had a huge fight and stopped talking, or Grace got pushed away after Colt’s accident.
Allow me to suggest insanely stubborn Ryland who REFUSES to let Colt toss him away. Maybe they DID get into a fight around the UNESCO fiasco, but made up. I dunno. But Ryland is stubborn and opinionated and now has experience handling moody middle schoolers. Colt doesn’t stand a chance.
Colt has his fall and pushes everyone away, but Ryland just won’t leave. Refuses. Not happening. Oh, they argue, and Colt says some truly heinous things, but Ryland only gets spiteful like “oh? Oh you WANT me to go?!? Well now I’m gonna support you even harder!!”
Ryland tells Colt that every single time Colt says something out of pocket or cruel, he has to do more PT exercises. No excuse. He got energy to be a b-word? He got energy to work out! Once Colt is a bit better, Ryland brings him to San Fran so he can keep working as a teacher while looking after Colt. Ryland’s apartment is a mess and Colt ends up cleaning it up, getting his bonsai trees, making friends with the neighbors.
Colt, once he’s feeling better, works as a valet, but also helps drive the school bus during the day. The kids love it when Ryland is the teacher on duty during dismissal because he and Colt sass each other the whole time. Ryland always knows when Colt is making dumb faces at him behind his back because he can hear all the kids giggling. One time Colt drove for a field trip for Ryland’s class to the Academy of Science and the other chaperones had to tell THEM to behave. Oops.
Colt’s heart slowly heals along with his body. He misses the high octane life and he’ll return to it one day, but for now he’s happy being with his twin brother again.
(And then Colt gets called to Sydney and it’s a holiday break so he drags Ryland with him)

Thinking more about this headcanon of mine that Eridian's carapaces are generally based more on the minerals found in the area they were hatched/grew up than genetics (though that also plays a role).
I imagine that the place you grow up would then be a bigger part of the average eridian's identity than it generally is for humans, maybe being seen as a bigger marker of what culture one is a part of than where one's ancestors came from.
Historically, a lot of cultures might have considered it really important to return home to have and raise your kids, since that allows you to pass down your culture and identity to them. If you raise your kids elsewhere, some might not consider them part of the same culture.
(Yes, this might cause issues for mate clusters with birthplaces far away from one another, but for most of Erid's history, that was uncommon enough that each group of mates would usually find their own way of dealing with it, if it came up.)
In more recent history, especially since the construction of the space elevator, as a project of that scale requires global cooperation and involves a lot more highly specialized people moving around, mate clusters with members from wildly different places have become a lot more common.
This started a new trend/tradition: mate clusters with different birthplaces will construct an artificial nest/incubation chamber and fill it with soil and minerals from their childhood home. The minerals the pebble absorbs prior to hatching have the biggest influence on their carapace, so this means the pebbles' carapaces will have aspects from all parents' home regions, and as they grow and molt, they'll also start to take in minerals from the region they're currently living in. This way, the pebbles' traits reflect their parents' cultural identities as well as the cultural identity of wherever they themselves grow up.
Post-canon, when Rocky and Adrian have their first clutch, they use soils from their own home regions, as well as scrap from the Hail Mary (Rocky had to punch through a lot of bulkheads to make his tunnel system, and he still has scraps left over). Grace is a part of their mate cluster, which means he is a parent to their pebbles. His background should be a part of them, too. Refined/processed minerals aren't usually used in nests, but that's all that they have from Earth.

AU where maybe May isn’t actually a very good guardian for Peter after Ben dies. She loves him, but she’s wrecked with grief, and she’s sad and angry and needs someone to blame. That someone is Peter, even though rationally she knows it’s not really Peter’s fault.
She becomes neglectful at most. She doesn’t actually hurt him. But it makes it very easy for Peter to be Spider-Man without her ever finding out.
Things get worse when she starts dating again. Her new boyfriend doesn’t like Peter, that becomes abundantly clear right off the bat. It’s just little things at first. Telling Peter to scram when they want to have a night in together. Not getting anything for Peter when he brings takeout for himself and May. Being quick to raise his voice if Peter does something that irritates him.
But the longer this guy is around, the worse he gets. The yelling gets louder and more frequent. The arguments start. May hesitates a bit at first, but then she starts taking her boyfriend’s side in every argument against Peter.
Then he kicks Peter out one night, but it’s fine, Spider-Man will just have a long patrol.
(Rest is under the cut bc this got a little out of hand lol oopsie)
Spider-Man has been recruited by Tony at this point, but Tony doesn’t know who he is under the mask yet. He, and all the other Avengers, assume he must be a young college kid.
May’s boyfriend just keeps getting worse and worse, though. Peter is getting kicked out of the apartment at least three nights a week. Then, the guy moves in with them.
Then, during a particularly loud, angry argument, the man hits him. Hard. But because of how quickly Peter heals, no one will ever believe him if he tries to tell anyone.
Peter has had enough. He doesn’t want to live here anymore. He can’t live here anymore. So he comes up with a better solution.
“Hey, Mr. Stark,” Spider-Man calls, swinging up to where they agreed to meet when Spider-Man called him earlier. He’s laughing nervously, and if he wasn’t wearing a mask, he’d be running his fingers through his hair. He doesn’t know why his heart is pounding so hard against his chest. He has several other backup plans if this doesn’t work.
He just really wants this to work.
“Just cut to the chase, kid,” Tony says, stepping out of the suit.
“It’s just, well, I’m sort of an Avenger now, right?”
“Key words being sort of,” Tony stresses.
“And the Avengers live in your tower, right?”
“Where are you going with this?”
“Well, it’s just, I’m sort of between places at the moment,” Peter says, waving his hand around, trying to sound casual. “And I was just wondering if–”
“Sure, kid, you can have a room at the Tower,” Tony says, scoffing. “Was that all? What happened, get kicked out of the dorms or something?”
“Or something,” Peter says, letting out a strained laugh. This was way too easy. Why was this so easy?
Tony tosses him a card and tells him to use it to get into the Tower, what floor to go to, and to look for the room with a blue and red spider on the door.
“You’re kidding,” Peter scoffs. “What am I, five?”
Tony just smirks at him, then twiddles his fingers in a wave and gets back in the suit to take off. Peter just huffs, watching him fly away.
“What a dick,” he mumbles, turning the access card over in his hands, running his fingers over the edges.
He doesn’t really mean that. Tony is being super nice, letting him crash in his tower without even knowing who he really is. Except, he thinks Tony has some idea as to what his secret identity is. Otherwise he wouldn’t be so trusting, right? He wouldn’t have just given Peter a card to access Avengers Tower if he didn’t do at least the most basic of background checks, right?
Tony probably knows hes just some dumb kid. It will be fine. This is fine. His plan is going swimmingly.
He shows up in the middle of the night with his backpack and a gym bag both stuffed to the brim, still in his Spider-Man costume. He grabbed everything he needed, everything that was sentimental, and he left. He’s really doing this. He’s really running away.
He wonders if May will miss him. She probably won’t. He doesn’t think about it much longer, instead hurrying out of the elevator in the Avengers floor and looking around for the spider-themed door.
And sure enough, there is a door with a blue and red spider emblem. The room itself is pretty spartan; there’s a bed, a desk, a walk in closet, and an en suite bathroom. It’s nice. The sheets on the bed are clean, if not a bit stale-smelling. He wonders how long this room has been ready for him.
He leaves again early the next morning, but he feels safe enough to leave his things behind while he goes to school.
For several days, Peter doesn’t run into anyone as he comes and goes from the building. It’s almost like no one else even lives on this floor. He’s had time to explore the common area, the kitchen, the gym on the floor below. It’s awesome. It’s incredible. After a couple weeks, he finally feels comfortable enough to walk around with his mask. Mr. Stark must know who he is by now. He’s been living in this tower for almost a month. There’s no way he doesn’t know.
So naturally, it’s when he’s chewing on a Twizzler as he gets off from the elevator one day after school that he comes face to face with the Avengers for the first time without his mask. They’re staring at him. Half of them look confused. The other half look annoyed.
So he holds out his left hand and offers, “Twizzler?” as he gives the bag a little shake.
No one laughs. No one takes him up on his offer.
“What are you doing here?” Tony asks, moving forward. “How did you get onto this floor?”
“Uh,” Peter stammers. “You gave me a key?”
“Why would I give a 12 year old a key to my tower?”
Peter bristles, frowning before he snaps back, “Fuck you, I’m fourteen!”
That does help the situation.
After nearly getting manhandled by several different Avengers, he’s clinging to the ceiling, now staring despondently at the bag of Twizzlers spilled across the floor.
“No way,” someone huffs. “You’re not actually the spider kid?”
“Spider-Man!” Peter emphasizes, frowning.
“Did you recruit a 12 year old?” Steve asks, turning to Tony.
“Oh crap, I recruited a 12 year old,” Tony mutters to himself.
“I’m fourteen!” Peter shouts at them.
No one is listening to him, and they’re now all bickering amongst themselves over what to do with him. Still annoyed, he takes the chance to skitter away and go hide out in his room. He also starts packing up his stuff again, and he closes off all his emotions as he stuffs a pair of shoes in his gym bag. He has his Spider-Man suit back on, a jacket over it, his mask ready to pull down over his head once he’s done.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Tony’s voice sounds throughout the room as the door slams open, and Peter doesn’t bother turning towards him.
“Packing,” he huffs.
“Why?”
“I’m clearly not wanted here either, so I’ll just get out of your hair,” he snaps, zipping up his bag with probably too much aggression. At least the zipper didn’t break.
“Let’s slow down, kid,” Tony starts, trying to move towards him to take the bag.
“Thanks for letting me stay here,” Peter says, shoving him away and tossing the card back at him.
They try to stop him, but he’s already rushing towards the open window, pulling his mask down, and diving out the window to swing away.
He crashes in an abandoned building a few blocks from school for a few nights, until he’s walking down the steps after the dismissal bell rings and sees a too-fancy car being swarmed by other teenagers with their phones out, taking photos, recording videos.
“Peter Parker!” Tony’s voice calls, and he can see him getting out of the car with a smirk on his face. “I’ve been looking for you!”
“Ned, kill me,” Peter begs.
“Why does Tony Stark know your name?”
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
“Kid, hurry up!” Tony calls again. “I don’t have all day!”
“Do you think I could just walk the other direction?”
“I don’t think so, dude.”
Peter groans, throwing his head back, and then he drags his feet towards Tony.
“Mr. Stark–”
“Get in the car, kid,” Tony says, his voice pleasant. “Happy’s gonna drive us back to the tower.”
Peter feels like he’s gonna be sick as he ducks into the car and is followed by Iron Man himself. There’s really no escaping. He’s fucked.
“Twizzler?”
Peter snaps his head towards Tony, staring at the hand outstretched in front of him holding a bag of Twizzlers.
“Since you dropped yours the other day,” Tony teases him.
Peter frowns, but he snatches the whole bag and holds them close to his chest as he takes a bite.
He’s fucked. He’s so fucked. But at least he got his candy back.
So like AU where Peter is still super isolated after the spell
So he’s 17 when he has strange do the spell to make everyone forget him. And for a couple years, it seems like everything works. He grieves everyone he’s lost. He grieves the friends he no longer has who are living without him. Then he does his best not to think about them. He moves on with his life.
The Avengers think he’s a pain in the ass, mostly because they don’t remember why they were so fond of him in the first place. Peter finds that working with them kinda sucks now, so he steers clear. He helps when he can, but he doesn’t go out of his way to be near them.
Then he slowly starts becoming more familiar with the more unsavory individuals in New York: Punisher, Deadpool, Dare Devil. He keeps them at arm’s length, but he appreciates that they’re nice enough to him, that they don’t treat him like a dumb kid.
Peter Parker is still very isolated, still a recluse, but Spider-Man is starting to make friends. And they don’t give him too hard a time about keeping his mask on at all times.
Then maybe Peter is having a bad day. He’s on top of a skyscraper, watching the rain fall. Maybe he’s missing May, or Tony, or his friends. Maybe he misses having people who know his name.
He doesn’t have his mask on, it’s gripped in his hand as he lets rain fall on his face. He has a hoodie on over his spider suit.
He’s just so depressed, and he wonders what would happen if he rolled over and didn’t let his webs catch him.
He’s falling. He’s falling along with the rain, wind roaring in his ears, the street getting closer and closer. He’ll use his webs eventually. Maybe.
Then he’s being grabbed, and the roaring in his ears sounds more mechanical, and there are words rumbling around his head but he can’t make sense of them.
“Kid? What the hell is going on? Are you hurt?”
“Mr. Stark?”
He can’t breathe. He’s gotta be hallucinating.
“Seriously, Pete, what’s going on?”
Peter’s arms wrap tightly around the iron man gear, and he can’t find any words to say. He’s gasping, he can’t catch his breath. He’s not entirely sure this is real.
Until Iron Man lands on top of a building, and all the Avengers he hasn’t seen in years are standing there, alive.
And they know who he is. They know who Peter Parker is.
He doesn’t know if he’s relieved or if he’s going to be sick.
Love the idea of aroacespec Grace and too-busy-being-dictator-to-entertain-the-thought Stratt not noticing even a little bit that they act too familiar. The Vatt sees Stratt steering Grace somewhere with a hand on the small of his back and go "👀😏" meanwhile the two of them are just like "ah yes very efficient for navigating crowds quickly :)". Early-apocalyptic qpr of all time

I do think, for the Eridians monitoring the biodome, that Grace is the equivalent to the Devil's Hole Pupfish. This life form is constantly trying to die, it lives in an absurdly specific set of temps, pressures, and radiation conditons that are so inhospitable to life as you know it, as to to be comical.
It takes up an abusrd amount of land to keep healthy, to the point that you have to cordon off acres of land around the habitat to make sure nothing goes wrong.
As far as you know this could be only living specimen left alive, it is critically endangered. It lives for such a short amount of time too.
But like, come on, hes just a little guy.
Anytime a single eridian suggests that maybe the human doesnt need that many resources allocated towards its survival, those scientists thrum to create another facility that costs 12 billion dollars to build so that they can manufacture vanilla flavor for his nutrient shakes.
He's their little guy. Their weird, wet, unique, biologically inefficient guy.
"Grace sounds like a young Eridian" this, "Grace is chronologically a pebble" that. ENOUGH. I propose "Grace is a creaky old man to Eridians." His wealth of knowledge beyond theirs gives the impression that he's spent centuries alive to learn it all. His rougher voice (compared to their whalesong) and steady, fluid movements (compared to their habit of either perfect stillness or jittering) are both full on Eridian gandpappy. They're convinced he's basically Bill Nye before he even reveals he wants to teach science.
Give me an Erid that refuses to accept that Grace, a thirty four year old, isn't everybody's sweet old grandpa no matter how much Rocky rages that Grace is technically younger than everyone he's teaching.
