Locklyle in The Empty Grave
Lucy's inner thoughts. There we have it. I especially like this part. She is starting to question things between her and Lockwood. I thank Stroud for this one with my whole heart.
Lockwood's psychic enchainment aka Lucy saving her man swinging down a freaking trapeze. Oh, what she wouldn't do to save him. Everything about it is heart-wrenching and amazing. This is my favorite case of them, I think.
My heart stuttered at this.
Undying devotion. Such big words. WHAT ARE YOU GONNA ASK HER, LOCKWOOD??? It's frustrating how Winkman chose to arrive exactly at this moment. I hated him more for it.
Of course Holly knows. Everyone does but them, those adorable idiots.
LUCY THROWING THE L WORD. No, not to his face but it's everything. I remember tearing up at this part coz why not. It may have been a moment of epiphany or not. There's always the possibility she knew all along, but it's the part where she acknowledges it to herself.
If this isn't enough proof they got together after the events in this book, I dunno what is.
My hottake is that people are trying to fit Lockwood into character archetypes he doesn't fit, because they see "traumatized teen boy with a big ego and a passive death wish" and go "oh. emotionally unavailable asshole character" when that's.....not actually the character we're shown.
He's constantly praising Lucy and George. He's often the first one to try and apologize when he gets into a fight with them. The second he clocks Lucy as a "safe person" he becomes super touchy and holds her hand constantly. He compliments George's cooking. He's visibly proud of the people he cares about and publicly defends them on multiple occasions. He repeatedly asks his team if they're okay and tries to get them to open up when they're having issues. He makes an obvious, conscious effort to repeatedly tell Lucy he believes in her and wants her to stay at Portland Row. He smiles and jokes and laughs around with them on a pretty regular basis. He's also emotionally aware enough to tell Lucy "the reason I haven't talked about this subject with you is because it's relevant my childhood, which I don't like to talk about because it's pretty traumatic" when she questions him ahout Jessica's door, and he's kind of astonishingly open about his trauma with Lucy and George despite generally being unwilling to actually talk about the details.
And this applies to characters other than Lucy and George, too. He compliments Kipps' team during the graveyard fight and clearly respects Flo, for example. He's kind to Winkman's son, is generally polite to his clients, and is affected by the death of the undercover agent to the point of having a panic attack. It's pretty clear he cares deeply about the people around him even as he tries to push those closest to him away so they won't mourn him if (when) he dies.
Like yeah, Lockwood has an ego the size of Manhattan, has enough trauma to fill a boat, and is worryingly flippant about the worth of his own life, but he's not the Asshole With a Heart of Gold archetype. He's not cruel or deliberately mean (at least, not to anyone who's not Kipps). He's friendly and pretty kind to most people most of the time, and he openly cares about his team. And it's a little weird that I'm seeing so many people talk about him like he's not.
HEAR HEAR
Just my Locklyle thoughts (The Creeping Shadow)
It's their first meeting after four months and I dunno what to feel?? It's cute, awkward and painful all at once. Lucy is alarmingly self-conscious while Lockwood is too stiff/formal which is out of character.
Holly and George on changes in Lockwood. I wonder what Holly's going to ask, if it has something to do with Lockwood? And of course George noticing things more than Lucy gives him credit for. Holly missing her and George resenting her are things I totally get.
THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE. I JUST... I LOVE IT.
Ah, when he says things like these ♡
This exchange while on the Other Side made me feel hopeful and sad at the same time. Finally, finally, Lockwood knows the truth behind Lucy's departure.
I'M ALL FOR THE LOCKLYLE TENSION.
Bonus: Lockwood tossing that crust must have been a sight. Reminds me of being teased over a classmate in high school. We needed that in such a dark book I guess.

The Hollow Boy: Locklyle angst
She might not know it, your honor, but she's jealous. (I like to believe she is.) Not necessarily about Lockwood's attention but having an interloper in your home.
We aren't fooled, girl. But I felt sad reading this part. With Holly's arrival, she managed to snag that sense of security Lucy felt living in 35 Portland Row.
That lover's quarrel that tore my heart.
*crying noises* I have no words for this.
Bonus: Lucy somewhat pining. I love these parts when she just watches him when he's unaware (or is he not?). I just love them.
Ah, this skull is so sassy and sarcastic.
My favorite Locklyle moments in TWS
I mean who wouldn't?? Especially when he uses that smile.
THIS. I admire the level of trust they have in each other. Also Lockwood's so far gone and doesn't even know it.
Yeah, right. The invitation arrived days earlier. You have time to look for the necklace.
Welp I just love this part. Lockwood always coming at the right time. Lucy always seeing him as the hero.

Things Lockwood say and Lucy's reactions to them I think about most.
The first thought I had when I picked up The Screaming Staircase. So Lucy only ever called Lockwood 'Anthony' once before she knew about his parents. Also adored that awkwardness with the first name basis.

Butterflies
A flash of blonde hair, wild eyes, bared teeth and sunflowers on an orange dress imprinted images in my mind before the inevitable happened. Had I not steadied Lockwood to prevent him from going beyond the iron line, there might be the slimmest chance of staying up on our feet with the Source taken care of in no time. But it wasn't the case, you see. We toppled to the ground in a heap, arms locked and legs tangled. My eyes were closed as I braced for the impact. The breath in my mouth caught at the settling of Lockwood's weight on me, not so gently. Unfortunately the arms encircling me didn't cushion the fall. I felt my head hit the floor with a soft thud. Nothing too serious, though. Aside from the funny swirling sensations in my stomach, I felt fine.
"I'm sorry. Are you all right, Luce?" Lockwood said from above me, sounding mildly alarmed.
I opened my eyes only to be greeted by a familiar face. Worry in his features mixed with wonder in full view. This was nothing I hadn't done countless times-watching him like one would gaze at the night sky. Lockwood's face was very close to mine. And he still hadn't moved. It was enough to make me forget what was going on. Well, almost.
"Oh yes," I breathed. "Where's she gone?"
As if on cue, Lockwood rolled off me. "It's gone for now, but we aren't taking chances. Got the Seal?"
He offered a hand to pull me up and I took it gratefully. Perhaps I imagined it when his eyes drifted to my lips. It was a fleeting moment I wished to stretch eternally. The silver chain in my hand made its presence known once again. Time to do what we came here for.
"Ready when you are."
Lockwood's answering smile didn't stop the butterflies from fluttering in my stomach. Normally the scattered iron filings would annoy me. Now the cause of it only made me smile at him in return.
A/N: I decided to put a spin on chapter 4 of The Screaming Staircase coz why not
UP10TION Scenarios
6. KISS
JINWOOK: He looked at you with such amusement in his eyes. Lights were playing in there and it overwhelmed you that you were the reason behind it. “Can you stop looking at me with heart eyes? I’m feeling self-conscious, you know?” you complained, smiling. “Where do you want me to look instead?” he asked, pouting exaggeratedly. You wouldn’t want him to look at someone else, anyway. “It’s not like I don’t like it. It’s just that my mind seem to stop working every time—” Your babbling ended when he sealed a kiss on your lips.
SOOIL: From the car, he walked you up to your doorstep. It was past nine in the evening when you reached home. You couldn’t help but worry whenever he went home late because of dropping you off first. “Drive safely,” you told him. “I will. Don’t worry too much,” he said, not letting go of your hand. “You’re forgetting something necessary.” He smiled sheepishly, and then kissed your lips good night before heading back to his car. You waved at him as you watched him go.
MINSOO: “Ah, Your Highness looks so lovely today,” he sighed when he saw you at last. You made a face at him when you caught your reflection on a shop window you were passing by. Strands of hair fell out of your bun, making it messy. But he remained staring at you like you were, indeed, lovely. “I am not lying,” he said, his hand on his chest. “It’s not my best look yet,” you said shyly. He held out a hand to you, brushing a kiss at the back of your hand. “I know.”
JINHYUK: You glared at him in mock irritation when he kissed your right cheek for no reasons. He gave you a surprised look of fake innocence. “Didn’t you ask for a kiss?” You rolled your eyes. It was your fault, anyway. “You’re pointing at your cheek, so I kissed you there,” he explained as if he just did you a big favor. You eyed the room to see if the students saw you. The library didn’t seem to care. “Erase that stupid ink on your cheek, okay?” But being the annoying guy that he was didn’t listen to you but kissed you again.
CHANGHYUN: Almost all the buses were full and it didn’t surprise you at this hour. Beside you, he kept talking to keep your distraction away from the difficulty of commuting. You concentrated on his voice and his breathing as he stood in that shed with you. His hand was on your elbow, rooting you on your spot. Another bus came and it was time to say goodbye. His hand went to your shoulder. You looked up at him, but he didn’t meet your gaze. He pulled you close gently and kissed your forehead until it was time to go.
WOOSEOK: “You lost in our deal. Again,” he said, emphasizing the last word. “It’s only 2 points!” you argued. “I know what you’re capable of. You don’t have to be so patronizing to me,” he uttered, smirking. He looked at your test paper again, an idea forming in his head. “After I give your punishment, let’s stop competing with each other. It doesn’t make sense,” he proposed. That took him long to notice, you thought. Suddenly his eyes were all serious and looking at him made it hard for you to breathe. He pulled you in, kissed your lips and told you that was it—the punishment.
YEIN: With a smile on your face, you showed him the flower crown you made. The flowers you used looked familiar to him, though. The white and yellow orchids were pretty. “Aren’t those flowers from the bouquet I gave you?” he inquired. “Yes, isn’t it pretty?” As a reply, he approached you and took the crown form you. He put it on you with such care. “Right,” he agreed, taking in the scent of the flowers mixing with your shampoo. He kissed your hair then and said it looked good on you.
GYUJIN: It was dark and the sky lacked stars. You focused on your steps, following the movement of his feet. He glanced back at you from time to time. Lightning striking made for a good kind of flashlight. “Remind me not to go to open fields again,” you said as the two of you made it back to the road. He invited you to come out to watch the skies before rain and brought you to the field. “Sorry, I messed things up,” he said, chuckling. “Were you scared? Come here.” You couldn’t stay annoyed at him for long, besides you enjoyed watching the lightning. He consoled you with a kiss on the forehead, then continued fleeing the rain.
HWANHEE: The photo booth felt stuffy, but seeing the smile on his face gave you the distraction you need to get on with it. He requested this, after all. You didn’t have the heart to turn him down. You copied his peace sign for the first shot. Goofy faces came next and you were totally having fun. The last shot came quickly, as well as the kiss. There you were standing with a slight smile, his lips on your cheek. It was a good memory on paper.
DONGYEOL: “Oh,” he mouthed, grinning at you. “Why don’t you sleep for a while, so you won’t catch me if I stare at you?” he was lying on the couch resting as you sat on the floor. “I really need someone to watch me while I sleep,” he said, chuckling. “Go to sleep, then,” you said with a pout. He stared at you for a beat longer. He even managed to lift his head and plant a quick kiss on your nose before closing his eyes to sleep.
