 I NEED THIS
Hello friends! I am - as usual - way early on being stoked for Halloween, so I thought I would upload my Gory Skin Tutorial for anyone planning their costumes early, or for anyone who needs some makeup-y stuff for cosplay at any time of the year. Learn how to scare the crap out of people in ten steps or less! For this, you will need:
Vaseline
Toilet paper
Eyeshadow (brown/red for effect shown, or other colours of your choosing depending on what look youâre going for)
Click the photos for step-by-step instructions and feel free to message me if you have any questions or need any help! NOTE: SKIP STEPS EIGHT AND NINE IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO DRIVE OR OPERATE MACHINERY. THESE STEPS WILL IMPAIR YOUR VISION.
A quick trick for cosplayers! Spray painted Googly eyes make the best metal rivets! And they come in various sizes for all sized rivets. I have also used dots of just hot glue itself. All the metal rivets on my Hawke cosplay are just silver painted hot glue dots.
holy crapâŚ.

omg es que any of them would be such an amazing cosplay
I seriously cannot believe that I havenât come across this tutorial before! This tutorial by ElenaLeetah is on How to Make Lightweight Wings, and the end result is absolutely incredible!Â

OMGAH WHA
I canât imagine theyâd ever get married because thatâs too conventional for them but if they did theyâd rock some fucking awesome ceremonial military outfits.
Weâve gotten a ton of questions about how we made the Lapis Lazuli wings in this post - http://cowbuttcrunchies.tumblr.com/post/125219453787/i-hear-you-laughing-saying-darlin-theres-no - so itâs definitely time for a tutorial!
To get that clear, translucent water-like quality, our Lapis wings were cut from PETG thermoplastic (which is very similar to transparent worbla), and then molded slightly by hand with a heat gun. PETG is great because itâs thin enough to bend easily under heat, but sturdy enough to stand up to a lot of roughhousing.  When walking through tight spaces, I was constantly bending my wings around me, âIâm Malachiteâ style.
Materials you will need:
PETG thermoplastic (apprx 1/16" wide)
Cardboard or poster board
Sharpie
Dremel
Heat gun
Elastic straps and velcro/snaps
Screws and bolts x4
Dye, or glass paint & Nailpolish remover
1) Create a template of your wing shapes from cardboard or posterboard. Â Remember to leave enough space for the wings to overlap across your back by 4-5".
2) Trace the wing shape onto your PETG using a sharpie or marker. We purchased our PETG from mscdirect, but many plastic supply sites should carry it. Using a dremel, cut the entire shape out.  The round cutting wheel is best for this  If you do not have a dremel, you can try to use tinsnips to cut your plastic.  This will work but if your shape is very swoopy, you may have a hard time making those curves.  Smooth out any rough edges with sandpaper or a sanding drum attachment for the dremel.
3) Use your heatgun in a ventilated space to heat up a section of the PETG. Â Once the plastic becomes slightly bendable and begins to droop, bend it into your desired shape. Â Remove the heatgun and allow the plastic to cool and solidify over the next few seconds. Â You will most likely not be able to heat the entire sheet at once, so work in sections. Â For our wings, we made a large bend in the center, and then twisted each wingtip slightly. Â Your wing edges may still be slightly rough, so hit them with a little heat to smooth them out.
4) Overlap your wings where the meet in the back, and mark your four bolt holes on either side.  Drill your holes with the dremel and insert the screws.  Screw the bolts onto the back of the wings. Make sure you place the flat ends of the nuts against your skin, with the excess bolts facing outwards
5) Tinting. Clear wings are cool, but very tough to photograph.  To tint them, you can use idye poly in a wide washer bath, or a type of glass paint.  We used pebeo vitrea 160 glass paint in turquoise, thinned down with acetone / nailpolish remover, and then sprayed through an airbrush.  I would try to avoid using a brush if you can, or if you do use one be very careful and practice a lot because it tends to be streak-prone.
6) To mark the elastic holes, youâll need to put your straps on first. Â Pin one piece of elastic across your chest, running from your right shoulder to left underarm. Â Repeat with a second piece for the other side. Â Take one final piece and pin around your ribcage. Â Get a friend to hold the wings up against your back, and mark where each piece of elastic touches the PETG. Â You will need two marks per elastic piece.
7) Drill along your marked lines until they are wide enough to insert the elastic.  Insert each piece and secure across your chest in the same manner as #5, using velcro or snaps. The back of your wings are probably looking pretty ugly right now, so hide the straps either under your top, or if your top is backless, use fabric, more PETG, or other materials to mask the strap holes.
8) Wear and have fun!

Very Easy Things You Can Do To Improve Your Homestuck Cosplay
MAKEUP
If you are grey, SEAL YOUR PAINT. Itâs just polite. For creme paints like Ben Nye and for water-activated paints mixed with a medium like Ben Nye Liquiset, youâll need a powder. If you havenât got Neutral Set or whatever, you can use baby powder for this.
Wear eye makeup. This goes for everyone regardless of gender or species but is especially important for trolls, where your human flesh will be visible around your eyes and look awful. What exactly you want to do in terms of colours depends on your character, but trolls should use an eyeliner to fill in between the lashes, and cover both lower and upper waterlines using an eye pencil (black, white, grey - depends on taste/character).
Please donât use jet black lipstick for male trolls, especially if youâre female-bodied. But do fill in your lips with a darker grey.
It is worth investing in - 1) matte black eyeshadow; 2) matte white eyeshadow; 3) matte eyeshadow in your trollsâs blood colour. Use 1) and 2) for contouring and filling in features (for instance, mixing black eyeshadow with the paint on your lips makes a nice dark grey for male trolls) and 3) for realistic blood colour accents. (You may have to hunt for a while for the odder colours - my tip is that the company Saffron makes a matte cerulean that is PERFECT for Vriska. Also, using a dark red on Aradia/Damara/Handmaid works fine, but donât bother using bright red for Karkat/Kankri/Sufferer - it invariably looks like human skin showing through.)
For Dental Distortions or other types of fake teeth, trim the gums with scissors so that the teeth fit comfortably inside your mouth and arenât ridiculously gummy everywhere. (Iâm told Dental Distortions will dye the gums grey for you, if you ask.)
For humans, especially crossplayers, do invest in getting a good BB cream - it evens out your skin tone without looking like foundation. (EDIT: thewillowbends pointed out to me that this is bad advice for those with dark skin, and recommends several tinted moisturiser brands as an alternative.)
It is better not to do freckles than to draw on about six cartoon black dots on your face. If you want freckles, please look at reference pictures of how they work in real life and aim to copy that. (For human freckles, a light brown eye pencil - for troll freckles, please use a slightly darker shade of grey.) BLOOD COLOURED FRECKLES LOOK LIKE ZITS.
If youâre wearing contacts, please please PLEASE donât get the flat coloured ones (the exception being if you want a white-out lens, either one with a peephole or a white-out mesh). Monochrome eyes are one of those things that look good in drawings but absolutely unnerving on people. Aim to get ones with a blended colour. Look at the stock in places like Pinky Paradise and UNIQSO.
IF IN DOUBT AS TO WHETHER YOU CAN WEAR THEM/KEEP THEM CLEAN/ETC., DONâT WEAR CONTACTS AT ALL. ITâS YOUR EYES, ITâS NOT WORTH IT. And do your research. Donât just stick them in your eyes straight from the bottle unless you enjoy pain. Donât wash them under the tap. Donât take ANY risks here. Itâs your eyeballs. You only get two and you canât replace them if they break.
If youâre wearing armsocks, donât forget to attach nails.
If not, do paint your own nails.
If you want pointy ears, itâs almost always best to go for more understated pointy ears (since the trolls in comic are drawn without ears, huge ears mess up the silhouette). The ones sold as âtroll earsâ on sites are, you know, for Tolkienian trolls. I HAVE seen really cool cosplay done with them but please use your best judgement here and donât assume that because it has âtrollâ in the name it will look good on every single Homestuck troll.
CLOTHES & PROPS
Sand your horns and weapons! Seriously, do it!
Consider covering your paper mache props with a thin layer of your preferred air dry clay. Whatever you do, sand it.
Gesso is your new best friend and you should be using it on everything, especially horns.
Please find a way of putting the horns through your wig rather than just slapping the headband on top, unless you are doing Calliope in troll cosplay.
Please donât paint your symbol free-hand. Use freezer paper. You can also use that method for more complicated designs.
If your clothes are reclaimed charity shop stuff, do wash them first to get rid of that charity shop smell.
If youâre female-bodied and cosplaying a male character, please bind. But DONâT USE COMPRESSION BANDAGES; it is extremely dangerous.
STYLE YOUR WIGS. Most wigs come out of the box requiring at least a trim of the fringe. THIS ESPECIALLY GOES FOR ALL YOU DAVES, I am watching all of you.
God bless the cosplayers who buy full replica costumes. They support costume/prop makers from around the world.
God bless the cosplayers who throw together their costumes from charity shops and old clothes. Your resourcefulness and productivity is to be admired.
God bless the cosplayers who make their costumes from scratch. Your creativity and skill is incredible and inspiring.
God bless cosplayers, for letting us all for just one day be more than who we are.
