Maybe it's because it's early morning; maybe it's because he's proud of the photo. Maybe it's just because the conversation with Madoka is the last open from rereading the mistake he made. Whatever the reason, it starts with Eita on autopilot as he attaches a selfie he's proud of (himself and his dog happy and taking a break on their run) and hits send, and ends with an apology ('Sorry, Hatano-san') seconds later when he remembers that he's not supposed to be talking to him.
Madoka’s thoughts have managed to wander to darker places again the past few weeks. It doesn’t help that he’s got a new bruise settling on his face, nor does it help that his dad pretty much has kicked him out of the house.
The drunken asshole won’t remember kicking him out, though, so he’ll be able to return in a few hours.
His phone ringing startles him momentarily; his brain doesn’t register that he and Eita still aren’t on speaking terms. He opens the message, finding the picture to be adorable and also flattering ( for Eita ). However, at the apology, he remembers the fact he’s holding a stupid grudge against him.
He thinks it’s time to give up on being upset.

He switches to his camera, hesitating on taking a picture of himself in all his bruised glory ( painfully obvious they’re new ), before saying fuck all, attaching the image to the messages and sending it off.
Maybe if Madoka could just get his act together, he would allow himself to be happy. Maybe he would actually be the one to go visit Eita, and they could talk. He could work up the talk they’ve been needing to have.
