Let’s say during one if the many discussions the Z-team had about Robert’s past hero identity, prism made an offhanded joke about how Robert was probably a normie so he must be Mecha Man. Flambae is immediately on the defensive, he doesn’t even know why. There’s absolutely no way that he’s motherfucking Mecha Man and they don’t actually know if Robert’s a normie. But the seed is planted.

Sometimes he can spot one of Robert’s scars peek out from under his sleeves and he is reminded of a truth he once found pride in but now a growing sense of dread in: metahumans don’t scar easily. So either Robert got into some really horrific battles in his prime on a consistent basis or he was a normie. Which could only mean one thing. So, when they have their interaction in the gym, Flambae slips in a comment about normies needing babysitters to see their dispatcher’s reaction. Any self respecting hero, no matter how humble, would at least be a little offended by the comparison. Which is exactly how Robbo responded, saying how they both know that he’s no normie. Ok, Robert’s not a normie so he’s not Mecha Man and that’s that. The amount of relief Flambae felt from the reaction was embarrassing.
