âIs Xav ok?â
Sheol wavered, pretending to not have noticed as he stared at his tea.
âYou donât answer me when I talk about Xav,â the tiny redhead remarked sadly and Sheol just knew he was about to start being all depressed again and it took forever to drag him out of it.
âXav is fine. Heâs just very busy and doesnât want to stress you.â
Cappy eyed him with a hint of skepticism, but settled down for a nap anyway.Â

Odd had been the word his brother had used when half a day, a day now, had passed without any of them seeing or hearing from Xavier. But Sheol felt uneasy, as if the situation wasn't merely odd but foreboding. Xavier mother henned Caprice twice as much as he or Frith did. Unnerving indeed. So he had taken it upon himself to take a rare trip to a different world, Xavier's to be exact. He wanted to get to the bottom of this.
Unfortunately for Sheol, what he would find in place of Hunter HQ where Xav used to live, would be a mostly-destroyed city and very few people in sight. It appeared that something had exploded.
Simply finding Xav without contacting him would be a difficult challenge for anyone.

Xav rubbed the bridge of his nose again, and finally dropped a lot of his mask, showing how tired and exhausted he was. âIf I tell Cappy myself, heâll realize just how much this is wearing me out. Heâll know⌠and heâll start to worry and panic. He needs to focus on getting better, not worrying about me.â
But⌠he couldnât just ignore him. âCould⌠could you at least tell him that as soon as I catch a break, Iâll go right over to him, no questions asked?â He hoped he would survive to catch a breakâŚ
âFine,â Sheol said shortly, his shoulders slumping. This had not gone the way he was expecting at all.
âI am sorry that I upset you.â

Zero would not want to be bothered right now, given everything that was going on, and he knew that Xavier knew that. âYes, and I donât care,â he said to Sheol. âThe situation is happening. Arguing about it wonât change anything; we Lightbots are very stubborn.â
Xav sighed, stepping away from Sheol. âFine, whatever. Well, you know where I am. You can tell Cappy that.â
âI know that, given one of my creators is a Lightbot.â He didnât really feel like he slotted in well with either his Wily or Light programming. Sheol turned to look back at Xav, his scowl gone. Now he just seemed disappointed. âHe misses you and you canât even send him a message?â

He felt like he was always sleeping now. He never had the energy or the willpower to do much else. And he didnât really⌠want to do anything. A week ago he would have jumped out of his skin to feel someone petting his head, but now he was so used to Vati and his brothers, and even X doing it so frequently that he was barely phased.
He opened one eye and smiled when he saw someone unexpected. ââ thought I recognized that handâŚâ Was that his voice, really? He sounded terrible.
âI thought soâŚâ He sat down on the couch, curling up beside him. He was trying to be careful; he didnât want Cappy to notice the bruises underneath his clothing, from battling the ex-Hunters.
ââŚAre you going to be okay?â He asked softly, smoothing Cappyâs hair.
He faltered, unable to decide if he wanted to cuddle up to Xav or not. He decided against it. He didnât want to seem clingy. But he was clingy...
âSure,â he lied, wincing at the lack of conviction in his tone.Â

Xavâs face slipped into a mask of indifference, and Svirel winced. If he hadnât known for a fact that these two werenât related, then he would have been absolutely convinced they were, with how identical their icy expressions looked.
âIf everyone was perfectly prepared, then nothing terrible would ever happen,â he said, his voice soft but firm. âUnless you would rather suggest I run away and save my own skin, leaving countless people to die.â
His eyes widened briefly, before they narrowed dangerously. Sheol had gone too far by saying that, and he opened his mouth again when Svirelâs hand shot out and pushed him away from Sheol.
âBreak. It. Up!â Svirel snapped, stepping in between the two. That had been a very low blow, but egging each other on was not going to help things.
Sheol huffed loudly, probably the most extreme display of temper heâd ever shown. âNothing would have come of it. I wonât fight him.â
Not physically at least. He had morals against fighting someone so much smaller than he was, thin or not, and Xav was practically family.

Svirel mentally groaned; Xavier really was young, wasnât he? If they kept it up, though, heâd have to break it up.
The frown slipped, but it wasnât Sheolâs usual blank expression that replaced it. The blondâs appearance was positively icy now. âThen run straight into something youâre unprepared for. Very well then, I can see you still have as much common sense as a child.â
Frith would have been gaping to see his brother act this way. He also would have pointed out that Sheol and Xav were roughly the same age.Â
âEven if he was seventeen, then. And speaking of Caprice, just this morning Zero had to calm him down after avoiding questions about where you were. He became convinced you hated him and that you found him pathetic and unattractive now. Absolutely inconsolable.â

âIâm seventeen, Sheol. And Iâm not a stranger to fighting enemies that are out for my blood.â Heâd never told Cappyâs family, not even Xander, but it was the truth.
Now it was Sheolâs turn to frown. âThat is still too young for something on this scale, I can see that much. What if Caprice was in your situation, would you still say âheâs seventeenâ?âÂ
Seventeen wasnât that old, really it wasnât. He was aware of the flaw in his example though: Caprice was much younger than Xavier.
Well isn't that strange. A purple cat with various metal bits on her and sapphire forehead crystal suddenly materialized, all curled up and peacefully asleep.
Frith had been using his time off from watching Cappy to take his support unit Kingdom for a walk. It was usually a pretty peaceful occasion for him since most people scattered at the sight of a giant mechanical lion. Kingdom was smart enough that he didnât exactly need a leash, though he was sure it would make some of the humans feels safer. Usually, the support unit wandered around while he walked, keeping a loose orbit around him as he made his rounds through the park.Â
Kingdom was the one who usually found interesting things, but when he saw the cat curled up on the bench... Frith couldnât resist going over to look at it.

Svirel would stare at him for a few moments, unsure of what to say, until finally, Xav himself came running towards them and stopped, panting as he nearly fell over and was only saved from meeting the ground from Svirel catching him and steadying him.
âYouâre overworking yourself,â Svirel accused.
âI think we all are,â Xav muttered back. The blue-armored bioroid looked exhausted, but he perked a bit upon seeing Sheol.
âHi, bit surprised to see you here, Sheol.â He wasnât surprised someone from Cappyâs world had come looking for him, but he was surprised that it was Sheol. It had always been Cappy himself or Frith that had come looking for him.
He looked around the area sheepishly, wiping some sweat off with his scarf. âSorry about the mess. Weâre having a⌠bit of an issue here.â Understatement of the century.
Sheol glanced between them as they spoke, politely remaining quiet. This situation made him uncomfortable. Sheol himself wasnât much older than Xav in terms of AI age, but Xav just seemed so--
âHello, Xavier. Mavericks?â He could guess what was going on, judging by Xavâs state. He bit his lip before blurting out--as much as Sheol could blurt anything at all--âArenât you too young for this?â
His vati still frequently referred to Caprice and Xavier as âbabiesâ.
âIâm still here.âÂ
