I did not expect to love this character as much as I do so I’m writing down my thoughts here:
Headcanons for James:
Has an older brother, Let’s call him Jason, but of the two he was the more ‘responsible one’.
Jason was a bit of a free spirit and rule-breaker. Marched to the beat of his own drum even if, or especially if, that wasn’t what their parents wanted for them.
HIs parents had high standards for excellence. Probably well-off and so their children had to live up to a pristine sort of image. His brother rebelled against this, James did not.
James decided early on he wasn’t going to be like his brother and grew not only a distaste but a fear of ‘getting in trouble’.
He worked hard to meet his parents’ standards. He was smart and skilled, but not innately. James worked doubly hard to ‘have the highest grades’ as his teacher pointed out in S7Ep1. {more after the cut…a lot more}
