Since 1951, Canyon Records has specialized in the recording and distribution of Native American music. Canyon Records’ guiding philosophy has been twofold: to respectfully preserve and present the established musical traditions of Native American tribal cultures, while providing an artistic atmosphere where Native artists can express their traditions in new ways. Canyon Records has always viewed their artists as collaborators and tailored its recordings to fit the requests of the Native community, while working closely with its artists to increase recognition and deeper understanding of Native American music.
