Another Primarch in traditional garments of his adopted homeworld. This time: Rogal Dorn.

I haven't drawn something for this series for a while. But @legiopraesagio gave me the idea of drawing inspiration from siberian native tribes for garment and patterns and so here's something for my special Imperial Fists-coinosseur-friends, @sonofdorn-vii and @vlka-fenryka. Both are so very into Stresshummeln.

you've seen the jokes. india is "dirty", indians are "everywhere", why don't they fix their own country. ok. let me tell you why, and what's happening right now while nobody's watching.

first, the history you skipped: britain ruled india for two centuries and drained it. economist utsa patnaik's research estimates around $45 trillion in today's money was taken. the india that got independence in 1947 was one of the poorest countries on earth. every "why is india like this" question starts there. you don't get to profit off a robbery and then mock the crime scene.

now, what's happening RIGHT NOW:

in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.

and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.

and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.

it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:

• infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.

• youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.

• only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.

• manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.

• journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.

• even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.

and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.

what i'm asking:

if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.

if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.

india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.

we can still save her. but only loudly.

the congress president mallikarjun kharge said in parliament: "students have been beaten. the government is attempting to stifle dissent." samajwadi party mp dimple yadav said "today will be remembered as a black day for democracy." even some of the police who carried out the orders apparently looked ashamed. that's how wrong this was.

and through all of it the prime minister has not held a single open press conference in over a decade in power. not one.

if you want to support the people on the ground: volunteers at the protest site need supplies. you can send things through blinkit to the jantar mantar / kerala house area, or get in contact with someone there and coordinate directly. the local gurudwara has been housing and feeding many of the protesters — donations there go directly to people who need it. you can also donate to

let that sit for a second.

they weren't throwing anything. they weren't rioting. they were sitting in the scorching july heat asking for one thing, accountability for a leaked exam that destroyed lakhs of futures. and the government sent in police with batons.

minors were beaten. children. women. civilians.

sonam wangchuk is on day 24 of a hunger strike. our government forcefully detained him in front of everyone.

we are not okay. india is not okay.

racism against indians is at an all time high globally. we get mocked for how we live. britain spent 200 years extracting wealth from india. our own government spent the last decade doing the same thing, we are mocked for the poverty that was built for us by the people who now look down on us for it.

our media won't cover any of this. it was bought. the ruling party owns the narrative and anyone who challenges it gets raided, jailed, or beaten.

they declared themselves gods (literally they did, their faces edited over gods). they are using violence against children to prove it.

i am asking international media to look at india right now.

as part of my journey to get to know Rogal Dorn better, I re-read a couple short stories and I have Thoughts:

40k is so fucking massive in scale, there's so much ostentatious shit, it's going to require an insane amount of CGI and, having seen a battle in RoP where an elf army just straight up looked like 5 guys in front of a shoddy greenscreen, I'm nervous about the production quality.

And then that branches out into my second concern: The average person does not wanna read Black Library books, I know this because I've tried and failed to talk so many people into reading one, so this is going to be the average normie's introduction to this universe. If the show tanks, it'll make a bad first impression and be labeled an unmarketable product by studios. It'll be nigh impossible to get another shot at it.

Tbf the first Dune adaptation was a fuckin STINKER of a movie (RIP David Lynch, you tried your best) and Hollywood did give that another go later down the line, but it took like THIRTY YEARS. Plus it's far more respected as sci-fi media than 40k.

It feels like this is our one shot at seeing Warhammer come to TV or film and I don't have the highest expectations.

In the projects defense, Cavill did a good job adapting The Witcher (or so I'm told, I don't fuckin know) so maybe his involvement in its creative direction will make a difference?

It was interesting to see how the Emperor's imperative to "make no mistake" in the Crusade devolved into this fixation on total control of Horus's circumstances once he decided to defy. "Such things should not have happened", he snapped at Maloghurst as he found out both Tarvitz and the remembrancers slipped away. All in all, turns out Horus was always too fragile to carry the responsibility of the Chosen One with patience and flexibility necessary to avoid tyranny. The slaughter of remembrancers feels oddly personal because, like every abuser, Horus dreads and detests witness and rewards his lackeys for looking away. Which is why Abaddon and Little Horus immediately start speaking Isstvan business while a massacre is happening in the same room. Only after killing Torgaddon can Aximand no longer look away, and he is semi-awakened by perpetrator's guilt.

On the opposite end, Saul Tarvitz, who was previously kind of hanging around in the background as an Emperor Children's "odd one", shines with unparallelled integrity and badassery that radiates outward and makes you sorry for all the loyalist Astartes who were allowed to prevail a little longer thanks to his warning about the virus bombs. It's telling that the last question from the loyalist Emperor's Children and Luna Wolves (who existed again for about five seconds, under Gavri's proclamation) is "Did we hurt them, Captain?", and then just peacefully gave up when (W)Horus said his last word with the second, conventional, bombardment.

I wonder when Lucius will be finally completely Chaos'd because he's been dropping one-liners that foreshadow his daemonic fate for an entire book. His scarrification, and the way he basically tortures Tarvitz in their first duel, is already entangled with grandiosity and sadomasochistic pleasure in ways that raise flags redder than Angron's demon-sona.

But we get both Tarvitz and Garvi technically-dead-but-not-onscreen, so there's that.

And so, the galaxy burned.

Took me a hot minute to write this post cus i forgot how to advertise on main...

First off, Im sorry for the inactivity in terms of posting, and the slow updates in terms of current commissions. Life had gotten rather messy. Nothing too dire of course, but its been tricky trying to stay on my feet.
