Closeted Weakness
Iām weak. Ā I realize that especially today. Ā My boyfriend has gently thrown a joke around about dating a closeted girl to his friends. Ā I know ā Iām 27. Ā It shouldnāt matter what my mommy says and yet, it does. Ā It matters what my mommy says, it matters what my church family says. Ā Iām afraid to lose everyone. Ā Yet there he is.
A little background on him. Ā When his dad found out that he was a lesbian it started a long journey of horrific abuse. Ā I didnāt know how bad it was but he was laughing and telling me about this one time where someone hit the back of his head and he passed out because heād been beaten so badly for so long that he had a soft spot on his head. Ā I didnāt know how bad it was until he told me that when he was a teenager his dad got him pregnant and he had a miscarriage to which his mom responded that it was a good thing and to never tell anyone. Ā I didnāt know how bad it was until we went to sneak a Fatherās Day card into his door and we saw him walking down the street. Ā I saw the immediate panic and fear register in him as I quickly drove by and my heart shattered. Ā
Then, we talked about his journey and mine and while Iām closeted I had some hope that when he transitioned I could just introduce him to my mom to him in his future self. Ā I know he doesnāt ever want there to be knowledge in the future of who he used to be other than to very close friends, he just wants to be him and not talk about when he was her. Ā So we talked and I mentioned how a little part of me wished he was a little farther along because Iād like him to meet my mom. Ā Then he told me that as soon as he starts his transition ā he will never be able to see most of his family again. Ā He wonāt be able to go visit his mom, though his mom still wants to be a Ā part of his life but it will be difficult. Ā He will never see his extended family again, or go to Christmas and other holidays. Ā That will be it for him. Ā
I think of the things that he will give up just to be who he is and I recognize that I am weak. Ā I should be able to tell my mom that I like ladies and men and everyone in between. Ā It shouldnāt even be a surprise to her but Iām so afraid of losing her because I have nothing else. Ā Yet my amazing boyfriend is willing to fight tooth and nail and give up everything just so he can officially be him. Ā Iām a wreck about this. Ā I donāt know how to feel ā I donāt think where Iām at is acceptable for me and yet I donāt know that I can handle changing it right now. Ā I feel awful that heās in this situation with me and Iām just waiting for him to leave because of this weakness of mine. Ā Heās so incredible and yet I am far from. Ā I realize Iām maybe throwing a bit of a pity party but Iāve just been in all of my feels about this. Ā If you have any love or tips ā please spread it. Ā I need all that I can get.
With love, Loretta
Dating a Trans Person and my Inadequacy
I think Iāve been going about this blog thing the wrong way this whole time.Ā I think maybe I need to talk more about my sexuality and not just my life but like how they intertwine.Ā I recently started dating this really awesome girl who came out to me as trans (FtM) and like ā I didnāt bat an eye about it.Ā But what I started to do was freak out inside because somehow Iāve lived my who bisexual life with friends all over the spectrum without ever fully understanding what in Godās name anything was or really meant.Ā
They laughed at me when they told me because I didnāt really understand.Ā They laughed because they realized I didnāt have any trans friends and therefore no understanding of anything.Ā They laughed but not in a mean way, just a comforting way of saying itās OK that you donāt know.Ā What they didnāt realize is that itās not OKĀ that I donāt know.Ā Not for me.Ā What they didnāt realize is that I donāt have trans friends because I want to be a pastor which pretty immediately scares everyone from the LGBTQ community away.Ā What they didnāt know if that Iāve desperately wanted to understand more but itās hard to understand things when no one will talk to you to explain.Ā Each personās experience is different and I have no experience with anyone to know what they are going through physically or mentally.
Last night, I stayed up until 2 am watching videos about people who were trans and listened to them talk about their experiences.Ā I was so excited because I started to grasp an understanding of what my S.O. might be going through.Ā So this morning I woke up so excited to tell them and when I did ā my words seemed to fall flat and they didnāt seem as excited as I had wanted them to be.Ā I thought, hey I did it, I started learning and trying to understand youāre happy right?Ā Only to find out that really, it was maybe an expectation that I already understood more than they thought I did.Ā Am I a letdown?Ā Maybe this is all in my head but I feel pretty stupid for not knowing what I should know.
Iām too chicken to ask for help.Ā Iām too chicken to try to dive into the community and request friends to talk to me about all of these things.Ā Iām too chicken to tell my S.O. all of the things I really feel about the subject or where I came from in my understanding.Ā The community is afraid of me and Iām afraid of the community.Ā I donāt want to be judged for my lack of knowledge and understanding or my life as a Christian.Ā I feel like those often go hand in hand and some people will likely speak down to me because they think I am a bigot.Ā
I just want to understand and do right by people.Ā I just want to be enough for people just as I am.Ā I want other people to feel like they are enough for me just as they are.Ā I just want friends who can help me learn what I need to know or at least understand where Iām coming from when I have questions or doubts or misunderstandings.Ā I just want a community of people around me who like to teach and guide people into understanding instead of judging them for not knowing.
Thanks for sticking with me through this post.Ā Itās been a rough morning and I needed to talk about everything I was feeling.Ā
Love you all,
Loretta

My friends are all old ladies ā
You read that right. Ā Almost all of the people that I value most in my life are the old ladies that I go to church with. Ā This seems pretty weird seeing as most of the time Iām 30+ years younger than them but itās so wonderful. Ā Why you may ask ā well my church lady friends are so different from the people my own age that I deal with all the time. Ā I value my relationships with people on a level that most others donāt take the time to understand. Ā My church ladies understand the importance of a handwritten note, a kind word, and kind action. Ā Theyāve lived enough life to understand that itās too short for drama. Ā My old lady friends are always quick with a kind, encouraging word about where I am in life and wonderful advice that is well thought out. Ā I rarely have to deal with judgmental backstabbing and more often than not I only receive kindness.
Ā Today Iāve been really frustrated with the people around me. The people my own age who donāt act like adults or spend all of their time talking behind my back. Ā I get really sad sometimes because I have so few friends my own age who value who I am as a person. Ā Most people judge me for being goofy and ridiculous without taking a moment to understand that one of my favorite things in the world is making others smile. Ā I am judged because Iām not smart enough, rich enough, I donāt party because I like to sit at home and crochet or volunteer with my church and sing. Ā The amount of judgment is exhausting sometimes. Ā All that I want are people who can value a good person with a kind heart and genuine concern. Ā My church ladies value that in me constantly. Ā So many people are so quick to turn their backs or ignore me when they find something better and as a person who doesnāt do this to others ā this is heartbreaking to me.
Ā Iām often teased for being an old lady in a young womanās body but Iāve learned thatās not a bad thing. Ā I wish more people took the time to know older folks. Ā The compassion and love I have learned, the conversations and boundaries Iāve been able to push, itās such a valuable relationship. Ā We spend so much time playing this generational blame game about why one generation is better than another but really we arenāt all that different. Ā I get to have some of the coolest most challenging and life changing conversations with my church ladies. Ā On a day like today where I feel down, out and unloved it brightens my heart to know that tonight I get to spend time with these wonderful women who make me laugh. I think thatās what everyone deserves. Maybe we should all strive to be funny, kind old ladiesā¦I feel like it would make the world a slightly better place.
Somtimes I wish my thighs werenāt such close friends ā feel the burn of a 20 minute walk in a skirt.
Transformation Tuesdays
Hello again! I'm having a lovely time looking through the transformation Tuesday tag. I have been working on my weight-loss journey for quite some time and I love seeing people who are so successful. Especially as I have started dropping some weight and I'm almost 20 lbs down from my highest. It's been a really interesting journey and this time I feel like I may actually succeed but only time will tell. I have one small issue with the transformation Tuesday/weight-loss/fitspo tags. There seem to be a lot of people promoting ultra thin, thigh gaps, unhealthy expectations and unhealthy lifestyles. I think every body is beautiful and every journey is beautiful but I've personally struggled so much trying to be those ultra skinny, model, thigh gap kind of ladies. I love looking at transformations but I think working towards general wellness is a better goal than a thigh gap because for some of us, it's never going to happen. One thing I love, the encouragement I've run into. People who have struggled with their weight and took it off are such wonderful boosters. Thank you to the people just selling health and showing what loving your body means. It means the world and makes my heart smile. I'm so proud of all of you and if you have more to lose keep fighting! Love your body and treat it well and it will return the favor! Keep posting those transformations! Loretta
I've had a bad day - (trigger warning)
I need to say this before I keep going in my work day. For the first time in my life, I went to the bathroom of my office and started crying. Today is not a great day for me. Iām stressed, not even over anything productive but over things like, why doesnāt anyone like me? Whatās so wrong with me? Maybe I am super weird and awkward and not in the fun and cute way. We had a 5 minute meeting at work this morning and while the meeting was nothing important I noticed that no one in the room even acknowledged me nor would they look at me. There was some drama started around me that, while I did nothing became about me. Now I feel like most people wonāt talk to me because they are avoiding any further drama in their lives even though I never said anything to participate. Then thereās my little group of 5 that I work directly with. Have you ever given your input in a conversation only to have the people in the conversation give you dirty looks? I haveā¦for almost a month now. I keep trying to keep my head up and keep a smile on my face but it gets harder. This along with the knowledge that no one in this building will ever consider me a real friend just my momās daughter, or that weird girl whoās nice enough but really, sheās just weird, Iām struggling. I donāt really have friends here and Iām not even sure the people I think are my friends really are. I donāt have church friends, work friends, I mean, I have my friends from Chicago but sadly they are 2-3 hours away and I canāt just run to them and have a fun night shopping or dancing. So today, a small comment about my coworker not getting my joke, broke me. It wasnāt that she didnāt get the joke itās the snappy comment about āI donāt understand what youāre talking aboutā in the tone of voice that makes you cringe. I just want to go home, curl in a ball and watch Netflix because really whatās the point of even being around other people anymore? Iām desperate to be accepted and just when I thought I was there, I get slammed back. The only people who generally like me are the church ladies who are like grandparents to me and know nothing about my real life. Maybe today is harder because my junior high student told me her friend committed suicide last nightā¦I guess that would do it right? I have no one to really talk to about that or to just try to play around with so that itās easier for me to put away in a safe little box. No one cares whatās going on in my life. No one cares that I have no idea what Iām doing. Itās just me, myself, and I and thatās really hard on me. I just want to love on people and in return be loved on. I donāt even need someone to tell my story to I just want someone to care and while I have a few friends who really do, sometimes it would be nice to have a few who can drag me out of my slump and into the world to enjoy what it has to offer. Itās just a hard day and I needed to get it off my chest. Thank you Loretta
Who I wish I was...
Who I want to be in life, dreams I've always wanted to follow. I want to be an awesome photographer, a musician/opera singer, a blogger, a vlogger, a mega church pastor. I wanted to be an artist, a teacher, a dog trainer, a lawyer. I wanted to own my a non profit and to create an app. My dreams have been endless. My life has veered far from my original path and in many ways that's OK. I'm not always who I've wanted to be but I am who I am. I've learned to embrace myself for who I am. I'm mediocre at a lot of these things and that's OK. Sometimes not being the greatest isn't a deal breaker for life. Right now I just want to be happy with who I am and what I do. Let's see if I can make that happen.

New year new me! Ā Or not...
How about not. Ā Iāve tried to change myself so often and Iām so sick of doing it. Ā How about new year and āhope I live it like I have my last one.ā Ā I have had a relatively successful and busy year. Ā I can say with full confidence that this year I lived my life to the fullest with no regrets or at least very few and I think thatās a first for me in quite some time. Ā The beginning of this year was bumpy and rough and hard, the middle of this year was also bumpy rough and hard and for the first time ever, the end of this year is running pretty smoothly. Ā So much has happened and it feels like itās been many years all rolled in one. Ā Like I had to make up for the three years of slacking I did after getting kicked out of Seminary. Ā I lost my way so much and last year was a wonderful recovery and this year was even more so. Ā I was so blessed last year to have a woman who cared about me and showed me that not everyone was in it to get something from me and while it still breaks my heart that we are over I am neverendingly grateful for the presence she had in my life. Ā Iām sure she may hate me or have a really strong distaste for me and thatās really sad too but she helped me a lot and I wonāt forget that.
I spent a lot of my year wallowing over the loss of her and itās still not healed but that takes time. Ā I also spent a lot of this year working my ass off for something and for meā¦that is so healthy. Ā I lost who I was. Ā I forgot that I was this powerhouse of a woman who fought for good things and helped people. Ā This year I walked 39.3 miles for breast cancer, learned to decorate cakes and made 400 cupcakes for a lovely girlās wedding actually I made cupcakes for a LOT of stuff this year, served at our local meal site, took Christmas trees to our church shut-ins, lead my Church youth group and fought for them when no one else would, ran my churchās Vacation Bible School close to alone, preached 3 sermons, sang a concert for a crowd of 3000, bought 1500 toys for Toys for Tots with my companyās fundraised money ($14,000 which bought us $27,000 worth of toys), tore down and built a porch, went to the Cubs parade in Chicago, drove across the country and visited San Diego and saw the beach for the first time since I was 5, I got hurt, I got sad, I felt hated, I loved, I laughed, I criedā¦I cried a lot. Ā Iām sure thereās more that I missed but these are some of my major events.
Though not all that I did this year was good. Ā I hurt people. Ā I hurt feelings. Ā I cheated. I lied. Ā I bailed out on people. Ā I donāt feel good about those things either. Ā Sometimes itās better to just focus on good and forget the bad but those things still happened. Ā I canāt deny the bad with the good but while bad happened ultimately my year was positive. I fought through so many feelings and body aches and found that while I wanted to give up somewhere inside I still have fight left. Ā I canāt just give up anymore. Ā I realized that my original life path is still the right one, that Iām still meant for ministry but my past is just a lot longer than I thought it would be. One day I might figure this stuff out but right now Iām just happy that Iām going into the new year smiling and hopeful for whatās to come.
I hope you have a Happy and Healthy New Year,
Love,
Loretta
Life updated
Tis the season to be jolly! Itās also the season to try to figure out what the fuck youāre doing with your life for once. Though, thatās not going so hot either. After a year of being at home and a year of getting turned down for jobs because I didnāt have a degreeā¦Iām OVER it. I have decided itās time for me to start reapplying to school or trying to apply for new schools. I am struggling to find what school situation may fit me best. There is a possible chance I could end up back in Chicago to finish out my time there and go back to seminary this year but also, Iām not sure thatās a good idea. Iām looking at school online to get a degree in non-profit management. I am pretty sure, no matter what I do, Iām in for another 2 years of schoolā¦which means that I wonāt be done with seminary until Iām 33. 33! This is not at all what I had planned for my life but I also realize the longer I wait the longer it will take and the older I will be. I want to be in a career and happy and working on getting children in my family, sooner rather than later. I just want to move on with my life. Iām not unhappy about the life I have lead up to this point but Iām not happy either. Iām still working through some mourning and loss. Itās kind of really complicated. I miss Chicago dearly but now it has become a place of failure and loss in my mind. I think about going back and it reminds me of everything I lost the last time I was there and itās terrifying to think about going back. Along with that, Iām residing in a place of happiness where Iām at. Itās far from perfect and I wish that I didnāt have to live at home while Iām here butā¦Iāve met someone new and we are exploring life together. We have decided to have an open relationship since generally I havenāt been able to be physically loyal to almost anyone in my past. I figured it was time to start realizing that maybe that lifestyle was not meant for me. Itās been an interesting road and I have felt differently than I ever thought I would. I figured I would hate sharing affection of any sort with anyone but really I know that in the end itās me above all else. Of course this is still pretty brand new but, maybe it will bring success. My new person is kind and funny and far from perfect. Honestly Iām not even fully over my past relationship but Iām not sure that will happen for quite some time. Iāve missed some of my chances at a happy life and Iām hoping that itās for the better in the long run, for me and for the people who I missed time with. I have a lot of life decisions to make and itās really hard but I know that one day it will be worth it. I will have the career Iāve been fighting for, the life Iāve been hoping for, the family I want and the happiness I have been searching for. Iām hoping this is my year. The year that breaks my losing streak and where I find my wins. Life is super crazy right now but I want to be better to this blog and actually write. I guess we all need space sometimesā¦even if itās just from a screen. Love, Loretta
