On a hot, summer day in June, Olivia and Thomas Hayes brought Cameron into the world. Crying loudly for all ears to hear, they both knew he was going to be one hell of a man. Arriving home, he was welcomed by aunts, uncles, grandparents; you name it. He was loved and supported by his family. After 35 years of living, that still hasnât changed. Growing up in the outskirts of Austin, Texas, he was known as the southern âgolden boyâ starting from a young age. He did everything his parents asked him to and he followed their rules like no ones business. He lived in a small town lifestyle, but made sure he didnât seem like the âperfectâ gentleman. He was kind, and also a man not to be reckoned with. When his younger sister was born, he made sure that no one would hurt her. In no time, they became so close that he became overprotective. When she was talking to boys on the playground, she had to be in his sights so he could run into any dumb boy that looked her way. Â Â
In his high school years, Cameron had everything - a sweetheart on his arm, a football in his locker, and a crown on his head. Yes, he was the quarterback of his football team and was popular, but he wasnât like any jock in the movies. He did lots of volunteer work, was friends with everyone, and was an honor student. Graduating with straight Aâs, he was awarded with lots of hugs and kisses from his momma. He was well off, but not ready for the life that was approaching him. Attending Harvard University, he got his bachelors in physical sciences and after graduating from medical school, he moved back home to Texas and did his residency at the local city hospital. What no one expected was for him to commission into the US Army and become a field surgeon.   Â
After a long, tiring conversation with his family, Cameron decided to join the US Army. His reasons for doing this was the love for his family, his country, and the people in it. From serving at homeless shelters, heâ now served for his country. Performing better than expected, he found his calling in trauma surgery. This was where he met his best friend. They ate food, talked to each otherâs families, trained, and laughed together. It was all laughs and jokes until things took a turn for the worst in October 2018. Being deployed in Iraq, it didnât take long until the army walked into a small village. A fellow soldier being hit by friendly fire, a war took place against ISIL and at the end, the perfect, handsome doctor was badly injured by an explosion. Â Â Â
Waking up in a hospital bed back home in Texas, the first feeling Cameron felt was pain. Looking down at his body, he was missing half of his right leg. Everything below his knee was gone. Remembering the explosion like it was yesterday, tears formed in his eyes. He never cried, but when he did, it was serious. He had a leg and a half and couldnât stand it. During the last year, he was put through serious physical therapy and counseling due to depression, his severe PTSD, grief and adjustment to his new body image. When he started to re-learn and strengthen his abilities to do daily activities in a full-time prosthetic, things started to look up for him. Needing to get back into the medical field with a ten-blade in his hand, he researched hospitals to work at outside of his home. Quickly finding an open slot as a trauma surgeon, he was quick to pack his bags and move to Las Vegas, Nevada. Soon enough, he found his footing in the new city and was taking one step at a time.
