16: advice to self five years ago. My instinct says that five years ago I was in highschool, but reflection has revealed that I was in college, about to go back to school for a second semester of social distancing and crippling loneliness. So I would say: don't go back to school! Take a semester off! You will be much happier!

13 (thing i learned): this was embarrassingly hard to think of BUT then i remembered my dad got me a book called A Dictionary of Nature Myths by Tamra Andrews, which is super cool and full of these bite sized looks into different world mythologies. I'm going through it small section by small section. A part I've liked so far was about the Egyptian earth/ creation god Geb, where the author theorizes about why the Egyptians had a male earth god and a female sky god while most religions had a female earth god and a male sky god, saying it's because in most ancient religions the rain was sort of metaphorically linked to semen via the idea of insemination->seeding the earth BUT in egypt rain was quite rare and fertilization largely came from the Nile, which to them came from the earth. It also said that the sea was made of his tears... which doesn't have much to do with all the semen stuff but that's kinda cool. I have no idea of the validity of this analysis but it was evocative...

18 (am i musical): I played instruments in all of middle and highschool! it was okay but gradually more stressful as it went on and once I went to college I stopped completely. The instruments I played were clarinet and tenor saxophone. I do like to sing to my self sometimes, and when my extended familly gets together we usually sing some american folk songs, which I enjoy. But I would not perform for an audience anymore.
