Ok this is one of the silly cringy part of the fic I'm typing for myself and I just thought I would share for now lmao

Focusing back on the screen in front of you, you browse for other videos again.
Meanwhile Kris was silently sweating on the inside thinking that they might have said something that upsets you when you didn't respond with anything—not that they care. They keep glancing back and forth on what you're browsing until they see your cursor hovering over a video of—
"What's ya-o-i—"
With lightning speed they shut off your CPU by force before you could click on that video, bumping their head roughly to the side of the desk as they had to jump and stretch a bit far in order to reach your CPU power button, hissing out loud after the whole process.
Seriously, they could have just shut off the monitor—but no, it had to be refreshed, cleansed, from the beginning.
"Whoa there, are you okay?—wait, you turned off my computer!!"
Kris just rubbed that part of their head that's so going to leave a bump later,
"You almost clicked on a phishing link, a virus, it can corrupt the computer."
A very nice well thought out excuse, Kris. Well done. They thought to themself.
Is this what their mother felt when they had to put parental protection pass codes for their TV and other electronic?
You seemed to buy it—for now, you simply just turned the computer back on and went to watch some more music video. The 'yaoi' video is no longer there. Seems like it's better to suffer listening to your weeb music than seeing you watch yaoi in a public computer.

been stewing on an analytical approach to fiction which I call "is this book afraid of me?" and in order to answer this question you determine how hard the book is trying to make sure you don't come after the writer on twitter

It has almost been 2 weeks since you woke up next to the church with Father Alvin finding out the statue above the roof had gone missing, people thought someone might have stolen it, some also said maybe the thunderstorm that has been happening for three days straight after the festival week had something to do with it; the angel sacrificed itself to save the town from more rainfalls. The last one is really something they made up for fun despite the coincidence.
All that's left was little trickle of gentle autumn rain.
That time…
You don't remember anything, your past, your name. All you had with you was a piece of white dress muddied from the wet grass and dirt after rain.
The disorientation that you felt in your head mixed with the smell of soil doesn't ease your mind at all.
Father Alvin—the first one to found you, brought you inside the church, he had given you some time to think about what to call yourself. Being the religious person he is, he did give you some name suggestions from the scriptures, occasionally calling you angel while teasing that you might have been the angel statue that came to life.
_____ is what you end up naming yourself. It just felt right.
And everyone went along with it.
You don't remember your age, but one of the kind monsters who has white fur and horns had suggested that you should go to this place called school. It's a place where you can learn and blend it with others in hope that you could perhaps find memories of your past self.
Toriel, is how she introduced herself as, she explained to you that she's a teacher who will be there in school to help incase you need something.
She had also offered you a place to call temporary home because you couldn't stay with Father Alvin, though she had only remembered that one of her children had come home for the holiday, there's no empty beds for you. While a couch would do, she doesn't think it would be suitable for a long stay.
Alphys, yet another monster who called herself a teacher, had volunteered to take you home with her.
You let them all bicker between themselves as you were unsure on what you should even say.
Father Alvin gave you a cup of dark red drink as you wait for whatever it is they're going to decide to do with you. The taste of the drink feels strange in your tongue, it's your first time ever tasting it but you know this drink is supposed to be sweet.
You don't understand what else did they do as they brought you outside and entered another building with pillars standing at the front, there are some green and red decoration wrapped around them that looks quite festive.
As you went to touch it, you realized your hands have furs, your palm feels soft to the touch. You inspect your own hand in fascination, by the tip of your finger, you realize you can retract your nails… claws, your mind tells you.
You felt something moving behind you and noticed a long (f/c)______ tail sprouting from your back right above your bum, watching it sway side to side.
You start to feel curious on how you look like in front of everyone.
The news of a random girl appearing after three nights of thunderstorms of course spreads rather quickly in this little town that is un-ironically called Hometown, thanks to those who were also present during the stormy evening.
"_____!" Alphys ran out of the building while waving some papers around, she coughed and awkwardly put the papers inside a bag she's been carrying before fixing herself to appear like a proper responsible adult, something you hear her mumble between her breath. "G-Got some papers done, I might need your, um, help, later, in filling this up."
You blinked at her and nodded your head, "O…Kay."
You're still not used to talking with your own mouth, the way you had to move your tongue feels unnatural with the sharp fangs you have.
Have you ever had a body like this before?
You don't remember.
Alphys gave you an awkward smile and said it's time to bring you back to her apartment.
She had an umbrella out as the sky is still filled with dark grey clouds despite there being no rain again, precaution, she said. You end up holding the umbrella as you're slightly taller than her.
"Wait, actually—maybe we should take you to the hospital, y-yknow? For a check up! See if you're healthy or uh, have some kind of illness." She points at the white building with a large plus sign and the large word that says hos-pi-tal, you read it slowly.
However, the word itself made you feel uneasy, it felt like you're remembering something but couldn't grasp what it was. You shook your head as you cowered behind Alphys.
"O-o-oh, are you scared? T-that's okay, it's just a simple check up! L-like blood test—"
You shook your head harder.
She bites the inside of her mouth and nodded, letting go of the topic of ever going to the hospital or see a doctor. It must have had something to do with your memory lost, she thought, trauma perhaps.
The walk to her place was slow, or maybe she slowed it down so you could keep up with her. It gave you a chance to surveyed some part of this so called town, Alphys smiled and gave you some short explanation on each site.
"A-And over there, that's the police station, if someone tries to bother you, y-y-you can always rely on officer Undyne!"
You nodded your head when she points to the end of the left side of the road, you could barely see the police sign, the building with a yellow star. Despite the lack of memory about yourself, you seemed to know what yellow and star shaped object is.
It's so odd to you, you don't remember much about everything but you certainly have knowledge about some basic stuff. You understand what people are saying when it comes to mundane things, name, basic shape, basic object and color. It's like your mind is calculating and remembering things as you keep going, putting the puzzle pieces together.
The two of you walked past more buildings, she told you that if you were ever hungry, you could go to the other side of the road to buy some meal.
"I-I'll give you some pocket money too!! don't worry!"
When you finally arrived at her home, it looks…normal. A small apartment, she said.
Everything looks tidy in a place she called the living room, there are some little statues of a character dressed in pink that intrigues you. You will look at them later, you hoped she wouldn't mind that.
Alphys called you to a short hallway, there she opens a door to reveal your soon to be bed room. She says it's a regular guest bed room but now you can use it as your own room, it has a single bed, a small dresser with a lamp on it and a mirror.
You found yourself drawn to the mirror immediately, approaching it slowly as your hands move to touch your face while Alphys is explaining over whatever toilet it was. Your reflection doing the same thing as you do, you know this is a mirror and it's doing what it does best, yet it feels alien to see your own reflection for the first time.
She only stops talking when you didn't answer her and saw you studying yourself in a mirror.
"O-oh—have you…never seen yourself in a mirror? Y-You look quite nice! and, um, very, cat like!"
"…Cat?" Your ears wiggled, startling you a bit with the sudden twitch, your hand move to touch one of your ears.
"Y-yeah! There are—other m-monsters who shares the same trait as you. T-the Cattenheimer!" She then starts mumbling about how she should have probably asked them for tips on how to take care of feline folks.
You inspect your eyes curiously as they gently glows in the dark, (e/c)_____ orbs shining back at you through the reflection.
Alphys awkwardly stood by the door before saying that she's going to find you some new clothes to change into for the evening after she prepared a shower for you.
You look back down at your white dress. It really is dirty.
Adjusting in a new society with your current body feels weird, you felt like a toddler.
You know how to walk, know how to run and jump, but if you try doing it longer than 5 minutes, you feel your muscles starting to burn like it's really your first time ever exercising that much with this body of yours. Your reflexes are also very slow at the moment.
PE was one of the classes where you had to do your own exercise and just watch from the sideline when the others are playing something called Dodgeball. It was fun seeing Susie—the purple dragon girl in your class, beat everyone.
At home, Alphys may or may have not tried to influenced you to exercise with some anime song while swinging some light sticks.
You find them to be way too embarrassing to do alone though.
In the span of almost two weeks of school, you had managed to become friends with some kids in class, mainly Catti and Jockington. They were the first one to ever talk to you after Alphys made you introduce yourself in front of the class.
A simple comment that sounds like a compliment from Catti saying that you have a nice shirt and make up was what started it. Social interaction was still awkward for you, but you felt like the correct answer to her compliment would be by being nice back to her and complimented her hair.
Alphys did have a knack on giving you some Mew Mew Kissy Cutie shirt combined with some pleated skirt or jeans, she also took some time to make you a 'currently trending teen' like make up—as she calls it, some dark lipstick and eyeliner along with nail polish. It feels over the top.
Truly you had fun getting pampered with it, especially the nail polish part, though you were sure this is just Alphys trying to push what she wished she could have done to herself onto you.
Edgy, Alphys marked with a serious tone before squealing about how her hard work looks really good on you. It's not too bad, you did sort of like the look of it.
Cool, was the other word that formed in your mind when you see yourself in the mirror. But edgy is supposed to be something cooler than cool, Alphys said.
Thanks to Catti, Jockington and Alphys, you have adopted some personalities of your own. It starts to feel like you are becoming your very own person.
You've also learned a few things about your other classmates. While you did managed to talk with a few of them, there are some that you just couldn't bring yourself to say hello first.
It doesn't help that Catti gave you a slight warning about them too, nothing too malicious but she does seem awkward or even guilty when she's near that group of friends. She had made peace, she admitted, but she still couldn't get along, whatever that means.
Especially when it comes to this one person in class, one human, actually.
Kris Dreemurr, apparently they're one of Toriel's kid and the only human in this town.
Humans are different from monsters—is what you've learned, but they don't really feel or look any different to you from the other monsters, everyone is unique to you.
One thing for sure is that Catti spoke highly of Kris despite the awkwardness but they alone just seemed to… hate you?
For no reason at all.
When you first entered the class room you felt sharp gaze piercing straight at you, that's when you notice their red eyes glaring from behind their bangs.
Occasionally—since you sit at the back of the class behind Jockington, you would find them asleep with their head resting on their arms. You thought they were mostly asleep until you see them once again glaring at you silently.
They never spoke to you, you were never one to start a conversation with them either.
It was not a problem at all, pretending to ignore them was easy because of it.
That is until Alphys had a great idea to randomly assign students to random team of two for a project. Everyone was devastated, to say the least, you were the only one who felt a slight relieved knowing that you don't have to ask around if anyone's looking for a third wheel.
Catti and Jockington are usually very welcoming of you but Alphys would say you should join another group once in a while, sometimes you hang with Temmie, sometimes Berdly would let you join his team as he is "kind and benevolent" and that he would make you A+ smart.
You avoid joining any groups that has Susie or Kris.
While you had nothing against Susie, her being close to Kris means there might be a chance Susie not liking you either. Noelle being Susie's girlfriend is also a slippery slope to you, you just tried your best to not get on everyone's bad side.
"S-So Kris, what's the number you got?" Alphys asked, she had been writing some students name on the chalkboard, each number assigned to the partner they get.
"…Three." They muttered quietly.
Alphys looks around the room to see if there's another student with the same number who would raise their hand.
You were in the middle of unrolling your paper when Kris said the exact same number on the paper.
"T-Three? Anyone got the number Three? A-Anyone?…" The teacher called again when nobody answered on the first call.
You took a deep breath and finally raised your hand.
"Ah!-_____! " You saw Kris flinched just a tiny bit in their seat when Alphys called your name, "You got Three? Alright, Team Three: Kris and _____." She wrote your names on the board.
Jockington turned around making a quiet "Ooo." as he shakes his head while wiggling in his seat, making you roll your eyes.
You grip your pencil and sigh, it can't be that bad, teaming up with someone who hates you. Surely not going to end terribly, just do your project fast and be done with it.
It's just an assignment to make a short research about something, anything, Alphys at least gave all of you that much freedom to choose. You decided to get a head start and think of what topic you could suggest to at least prove yourself to be a capable teammate for Kris, surely they would let go of whatever hatred they have for you so you two can aim for good grades.
You start thinking about what little things that intrigues or annoys you in this town ever since you arrived before listing them.
Festival, a fun event in town that you had missed, Jockington said.
The population of frogs in town, something that you find odd because you barely see any of them even though it has been raining quite a lot, albeit it's just a dribble. You have only seen pictures of them from the books Alphys gave you, they're adorable, you thought.
The benefit of eggs, you have been craving dishes made out of egg ever since Alphys cooked it for you for the first time, a bit burnt, but it was still delicious, The sunny side up in QC's diner was also really good. It's also really cool to think how a small egg can become a living creature.
Cutie Mew Mew Legacy, you chuckle to yourself as you wrote this down before scratching it lightly with your pen. You have grown to like this… 'Anime' series as Alphys called it.
You scribbled around wondering if you should write the number five or start with a four again as it was meant more as a joke suggestion before deciding on five,
5. Angel.
Staring at your list, you tapped your pencil on the paper.
You have been to church twice, not counting your first arrival.
Sunday morning on your first week, Alphys had asked if you wanted to come with her to church and you went along with it as you had nothing to do, Catti said she would be there too with Jockington. You know nothing about the religion and tradition in this Hometown, Father Alvin had only talked to you shortly about the Angel but never in depth during the sermon.
Suddenly you were startled by the sound of someone pulling a chair towards your desk—it was Kris, dragging Susie's chair that they had borrowed since she got teamed up with Temmie and had to move to the front.
Looking around, everyone seemed to be doing the same thing as the classroom is now filled with teenagers noisily moving their chairs and desks around. Alphys' warning about not dragging the furniture goes to deaf ears as everyone keep doing it anyway.
You didn't move from your seat and just straightened your posture so you don't hoard the whole desk even though it's yours, keeping a good amount of space for you and Kris to share.
"Hey." You tried greeting them for the first time.
They stayed silent for a few moment before turning their gaze away as they sit down, "Hey."
A great start, you think.
Not wanting to waste anymore time, you decided to get straight to the point.
"So, I came up with these, feel free to pick, add, or scratch them all, but you will have to be the one to come up with the new ideas." You said flatly, returning the vibe they're giving you. If they just want to be rude then you will keep up with them. Two people can play this game.
Kris peers at the paper that you turn to them, reading them in silence.
You took this as an opportunity to study them. Dark brown hair, red eyes, a mole on their chin and near the side of their right eye, their expression looks calm for once, maybe because they're not staring at you. Reading their expression feels hard with how… blank they just look, or really, they just look bored.
Your gaze moved to study their long, calloused fingers that's on the desk, drumming on the paper note, they're wearing dark nail polish like you.
Observing their fingers makes you remember that Kris knows how to play the organs in church, something they had been doing again recently, Catti told you. Kris was known to be a piano prodigy since they were little, but there was a time when they stop playing the piano and now they're back on it again.
Whatever it is that changed them seemed to have made them loving the piano once more.
When Kris stops tapping their fingers, you look up at them, though like the last time, they still avoid your gaze almost immediately which got you to quirk your eyebrow.
"Anything but number four is fine…" A whole sentence, not really, but it's at least longer than just a hey and a glare.
You almost thought of them as a coward as they only glare at you when you're not right in front of them, reasonable, but also funny.
"Hmph, everyone hates Mew Mew, I think she's cute and cool." You mumbled quietly with a slight pout, "Then we really cross this out."
You swore for a moment you saw the corner of their lips lift up for a moment before their face went flat again.
You pulled the paper note back at you and scratch number four one more time, taking it officially out of the list then tossing the paper back at them.
Alright, that makes 4 options.
Kris was unsure of what to do since you're making them pick again, their eyes keep occasionally going down to the bottom of the list.
"…You like frogs?" Is what came out of their mouth instead.
"I think they're cute, but I've never seen them ever since I got here. They have big beady eyes and always look like they're smiling in pictures."
They nodded their head, "Eggs too?"
"They're yummy, Alphys likes to warn me about the calories in them though, she won't let me have more than four a day."
That got their eyes to go wide as they nodded their head again, slower this time.
You still want to see how far would they talk to you. It's funny because you were so sure they would have stopped talking if they truly hate you.
"You have went to the festivals before, right? How was it?"
Kris looks surprised when you ask them that, their mouth opening before closing again.
"…It was fun." They stared down at the note, "…You should have come sooner."
It was barely a whisper but you heard the last word clearly.
"Like I could just decide when did I get to be here, I don't even know from where did I come from." It was just a light jab made to be a joke but Kris looks slightly guilty.
You decided to move on from the topic and tapped your pencil again, "What about research on the Angel? I think it will be easy, your mother seems to be a devotee, we can ask her or father Alvin. There's gotta be a lot of scriptures somewhere."
Kris didn't say anything, instead they just stared back at you, their eyes looked like they wanted to say something but is clearly holding it back, they just nodded their head instead.
"How was it?" Catti asked as she unwrapped her tuna sandwich for lunch.
"How was what?"
"Ha! What else, your Smooch with Kris?" Jockington continued for Catti who rolled her eyes while chuckling along.
"Smooch?"
"Thiiisss—"
Jockington lift his tail and begin to make kissy noises while kissing it erratically.
You choked on your lunch, thankfully without spilling it everywhere. That made your friends chuckle at least.
"As if I would. We were just talking about what subject we'd use for our research. What did you guys pick?"
"Mundane Things."
"Cult stuff."
You were genuinely surprised that Catti managed to drag Berdly into doing research on cult—that nerd, as she calls him, seems to be more of a science guy than some paranormal believers.
You told them about what you will be researching with Kris and they don't seem to find it odd, it's fitting for you actually, they commented; a girl who appeared right after the angel statue from the church had gone missing is now researching about the Angel.
You've heard Father Alvin is collecting some donations to replace the statue with a new one too. Somehow you felt kind of guilty thinking about how its disappearances might have something to do with you.
Perhaps that's why that topic becomes something that intrigues you a lot. The idea of you becoming something of a fallen angel seems too far fetched, you are a feline monster, it would have made more sense had you came with wings or bird like features. It still doesn't make sense how you end up here in the first place.
You don't have any divine power either as far as you know, magic is also something you are unfamiliar of. From what you've inspected, non of the other students seemed to know magic either.
Your little pondering was once again interrupted by a loud noise of something metal falling on the floor followed by Noelle's panic scream.
Everyone in your table turn their gaze to see what's the commotion.
On the other side of the room where Kris' table was, Susie had apparently thrown her lunch tray onto the floor, claiming that she saw a rat running around. Berdly was posing weirdly heroic as he talks about how there's nothing to worry about and went under the table to help Susie find the rat.
Then your eyes land on Kris, a view that you never expect would ever see from them.
They're laughing mischievously, they have their hand slightly covering their mouth but they are laughing.
"Kris if this is one of your prank, I swear!—"
You don't understand why you end up staring at them, sure it's your first time seeing them smile and laugh, but something about it feels so familiar, like you've always wanted to see them like that, yet you couldn't point out why.
Kris sat down on the lunch table quietly, it's not something odd they would do. Susie, Noelle and even Berdly are busy talking and complaining about how Alphys' keeps giving them group project every month.
They're always happy to just listen quietly, occasionally breaking their silence to let their opinion slip by and they would get shoved playfully by Susie.
That is until they have an idea to pull a little prank and got everyone to panic and laugh.
It's good, it's all good.
Ever since they have regained control over their SOUL, they were just glad their friends could still accept them for who they are. As much as they hate that SOUL, it had helped them went through all of their troubles together, it helped them make friends, it helped them find themselves again.
It made them feel whole.
It made them realize that life is still worth living.
All the decisions it made—as questionable as they were as Kris didn't really gave them much options with the lack of creativity in their own intrusive thoughts (Ouch), It made them brave enough to do something they wouldn't have the courage to face all by themself. Kris was grateful to it.
You showed them they're still deserving of LOVE despite what the prophecy have foretold.
It was suffocating, but invigorating at the same time.
At least, everything turns out well and Kris is back to being Kris.
The town is now safe from whatever calamity that was meant to befall upon it, even Asriel is back in town early to spent time with them as holiday is coming soon.
Everything was well.
Perhaps it was their fault for getting too comfortable with how comforting their life has been.
The thunderstorm had been an odd season for Kris, but they didn't dislike it.
People were worried that it would overflow the lake and flood the town, but it didn't happen, it never happened.
It was an evening prayer, the whole town decided to once again pray for the Angel hoping it would grant mercy and gave them better weather. Thunder struck the sky and rain pour heavily outside, it was worse than two days before.
Noelle got startled once in a while despite claiming to not be scared of thunder, at least Susie was there to comfort and cheer her during her choir.
Kris played the last notes of the hymn on the organs, wondering if their Angel would still remember them even though they hated it. They never mind the rain, but things do feel like it's getting dangerous if it doesn't stop.
Kris prayed, for the first time in a while as their fingers dance on the keys, praying for the Angel to stop this terrible weather, if it can even control it.
They know, all this rain was meant to wash out whatever mistake they did before, but now they wished for it to stop for just a moment.
Tunk…
They hit the last note.
As if their prayers were heard, a loud thunder crackled making the whole building tremor, it sounded so close, happened right above them as they hit the last note. The lights went out despite the chandelier not even swinging from the wind.
Thump.
Something large had fell on the ground outside.
Some people screamed in panic before Father Alvin's voice silenced them all.
Everyone quieted down when they realize the thunderstorm is slowly going away, leaving just a little bit of rain. They stared at each other when one of the younglings shouts about how the rain had stopped.
Another person who were looking outside the window spotted something and gasped, saying something had indeed fallen outside.
"The angel statue had fallen!"
Those words alone made Kris' eyes went wide, they glanced at Susie and Noelle, they seemed to have the same look of shock.
As surprised as he was, Father Alvin gained everyone's attentions back so he could close this prayer properly and thank the Angel above from stopping the rain.
When they all went outside, the rain had fully stop. Though there was no sign of the angel statue at all, not above the church, not a single trace of it on the ground either.
There was only one thing they did find.
A young girl lying on the muddy ground.
All that Kris could tell from that distance was that they could feel the familiar heart beat, they could hear it better if they drowned out the voices of people gasping in wonder.
"What the hell…Was she out there in the rain the whole time?" Susie said out loud, they all stayed by the sideline as they observed Father Alvin approaching the body of the girl.
"Oh dear, I hope they're alright." Noelle added.
Kris only stared in silent at the scene in front of them, the moment she opened her eyes, they feel the familiar gaze from the (e/c)_____ orbs.
Then it hit them.
It's you.
Their SOUL.
Was—their soul.
They had obtained their own soul, they had banished you along with the others. So how come you're still here?
Back then, Kris was the only one who could see your ghostly form, although it was hard for them to properly see it. They recognized your feature almost immediately, minus the feline like features. The others could only see the red heart shaped object that their darkner friend had called The Angel.
To them, you had appeared more… Human.
But now, by whatever miracle that had happened, you have your own body. Your own vessel.
Though is it really your own vessel, or have you possessed yet another innocent person's body?
That thoughts alone brings dread into their mind as they begin to frown, how could you, you promised after all.
You promised after you let them banish you to prove themself, you will forever leave this world alone.
For days they have stalked you, see what you are planning to do and take notes on whatever it is that you have done. Their friends don't know about it.
Despite them having becoming good friends already, there are still things that Kris would keep to themselves in order to not burden the people they care about. It's still a bad habit they got.
Sometimes they wonder if they could telepathically send their thoughts to you, shouting in their mind about how you should leave. It never seemed to work and all it does is Kris glaring at you from afar.
If their thoughts didn't get sent, they would at least make you feel their glare on you.
This somehow ends up being an observation project as they learn about your schedule.
Sometimes they would see you stand in front of a mirror just looking at yourself, when you're alone you would make funny faces on it like you're trying out your vessel, your costume.
They noticed how you seemed to be learning about social cue and perks from Catti and Jockington.
The food you ate everyday for lunch, the clothes that consistently filled with anime T-Shirt from Alphys, the nail polish you use and share with Catti, the walk around town with two of your classmates.
They know it all.
Just like before, you are one curious being as you absorbed everything in fascination, everything was new to you.
Reading everything that they have listed on their observation, something seemed to have sink in.
These are all the things similar to what you've wished out loud in their mind had you got your own vessel, the difference was—you had wished you could have done it all with Kris.
You have always wanted to be their friend, you insisted that time.
Kris never believed you, why would they ever believe the words of something they deemed as a parasite. No matter how divine you were, you were nothing but a parasite, pulling them around like they were just a puppet.
A liar is what you are now too, you didn't leave, and when you're here, you never made a step forward on becoming one of their friends. Instead of joining their group—instead of approaching them, you were hanging out with Catti and Jockington. And whatever it is that Catti have said about Kris seemed to have put some influence on you too. You kept your distance, creating a gaping hole between the two of you, hells you had never even tried talking to them once ever since you arrived here.
They feel… Frustrated, confused, and maybe even a little betrayed.
They don't want to be the one to sound desperate and starts the conversation first. They don't need to, they don't want to, is what they convinced themself.
As if fate was testing them, comes the day when Alphys assigned yet another group project for this class. A team of two that will be picked randomly.
What miracle it is for the number 3 to be Kris' lucky number and yours.
Berdly had requested for Kris to move so Catti can borrow their seat, they relinquished their desk with a sigh and begin to walk to the back of the class, dragging Susie's chair after she left it to find her teammate Temmie.
This is the first time they get to see you in your new vessel up close. There's one, maybe two words that could describe you but they refused to admit it.
It started with a hey, and then you start to slowly ramble like you always did with just a simple question that they threw on you.
Frogs, eggs, Mew Mew.
They find it so odd to talk to you about it like it's something new, something they don't know. It would be weird after all if they told you they know about it already, right?
They don't want to catch you off guard. It might ruin whatever plan they have for you.
"You should have come sooner." Was a slip, they wanted to test you, see if it triggers anything inside you.
But that seemed to have only made things awkward between you.
Thankfully, you seemed to always know how to break the tension and bring the attention back to the assignment at hand.
Angel.
So you are curious about it after all.
"We got two weeks to prepare for it, we can start today…Or tomorrow, whatever it is that's comfortable with you?" There you go, being considerate of them again.
Kris remembers you would always ask them for their opinion on things, but they refused to ever really gave you a proper answer, it was always a half-hearted false fact or no answer at all. You always asked them if it's okay to do something they honestly didn't want to do, like rereading their brother's unsent love letters. You still made them try to read it a few times anyway.
Whatever it is that's comfortable for them, it makes them want to scoff.
"Tomorrow is fine." They don't think they can think rationally and needed some time to process everything that has happened for today—over talking with you for the first time in person, mind you.
Lunch was the only time where they decided it would be a good time to let out some frustration, clearing their mind with a little prank on their friends. It was all in good fun and they got a playful choke and noogie from Susie.
From the corner of their eyes, they saw you glance at their direction before continuing with your meal.
That somehow got them to awkwardly 'fix' their composure and went back to being a quiet kid, though their smirk remains on their face.
After that interaction with Kris, today feels longer than usual, you don't remember the class would feel this slow as you would always focus on whatever it is being taught by Alphys. You were always eager to learn more, remember more vocabularies and things you have forgotten, though right now you just can't focus on anything.
You glance to where Kris is seated, they're back to becoming a napper in class, so you shift your gaze towards the window next to you.
For a moment you remember what Alphys rambled to you during dinner time after your first day of school, when she assigned your seat, she said sitting at the back of the class right next to a window will make you feel similar to a main character in those high school anime. You didn't get it back then, but now you sort of do after reading and watching some episodes.
It's late autumn, the leaves on the trees range from brown, orange to yellow, you noticed how the sun makes them glow into golden hue at times. It's so weirdly nostalgic.
Somehow your mind drifts onto a certain human with dark brown hair, how would they look like under the golden glow of the sun.
Your mind creates a fake image of the human, sitting on a green picnic table facing towards a lake.
Their face draws the expression that says… melancholy, burning with a tinge of jealousy.
It's odd how you can picture it so perfectly like you have actually seen it with your own eyes before.
The ring of the bell being the second thing to break your train of thoughts again. School is over. Alphys said her goodbye to class after packing her things so she could go to the staff room.
The other students soon follow, everyone but Kris.
They're still asleep on their desk while you're the last one to stay because of them, you wonder if you should wake them up—but who are you really, you're not their friends, acquaintance at best thanks to the assignment for making you a team.
It got you thinking why non of their friends ever check up on them to wake them up, it had happened a few times before and they always let Kris sleeps in class.
Perhaps you could try tapping their shoulder, you are teammates now, temporarily at least. You should show some kind of care, right? That's how you socialize with people. When you overslept, Alphys always helps waking you up for school. You're also quite sure their bed at home would feel more comfortable than the desk at school.
You walk up to them slowly, one of your hand hovers over their head before moving down to their shoulder and starts poking them lightly.
With that little nudge, Kris lifted their head, looking around to see that the classroom had emptied, then they turn their gaze to your side and noticed you standing next to them. Your presence seems to have made them wide awake now.
"School is over you know." You said and retracted your hand to your side.
"Yeah. I can see that." Was all they murmured as they stood up and left.
Not a thank you, not another word, they just straight up left you alone in class.
Reasonable, you guessed, begrudgingly that is, you're still a stranger to them at the end of the day. You tried to make them some excuse.
Instead of heading home yourself, you waited for Alphys who was still in the staff room. The glass was foggy and you can only see a blur of yellow moving around before it starts walking towards the door to open it.
"_-____! Ready to head back?"
You nodded your head as you gave her a little smile before covering your mouth to yawn, seems like Kris' nap time had now affected you.
Alphys tweaks on a jumble of keys with Mew Mew keychain in her hand as she locks the staff door, guess she's the last person to leave today.
Before you head back, Alphys said she's going to stop by for some groceries by Sans's shop and was hoping you would help.
When you first arrived here, her refrigerator was filled with nothing but some energy drinks and cup noodles with 2 eggs. Now with you here, she's been trying to buy some more edibles to see which one you'd like best.
Even though she doesn't mind you being picky, you really don't want to complain about whatever it is that she served. It just didn't feel morally right to you especially since you're staying at her place. Though despite your silence about it, Alphys seemed to have picked up on some clues with how your face gets less distorted whenever you take a bite on something delicious to your tongue. That's one of the mild results, the other result would either be you puking on the toilet or you sitting in the toilet for hours.
She takes note of that.
It's almost like she's experimenting on you.
You walked through the isle with Alphys, eyes scanning on some magazine as she filled out the crate that you are carrying. Picking up one of the anime magazine, you told Alphys that they seemed to have released a new one for this week.
She immediately gasped and ran back to you, encouraging you to open it up and read it with her. Her giddiness had influenced you as you grinned and opened the magazine to the section that she likes to read, Mew Mew is still on the top chart of everyone's favorite character, that got her to squeal in delight before calming herself down.
Another section in the page seemed to have caught your eyes,
"De—re type?" You read that part out loud.
"Oh! A personality chart! Hmm, let's see—"
Alphys starts rambling about all kinds of 'Dere', you listened to it quietly while reading the page too. Yandere, Kuudere, Dandere, Tsundere and Deredere.
You don't know why but your mind immediately went to Kris, trying to guess what category they might be in.
You always found them glaring at you from afar, it feels like a Yandere.
They rarely ever speak, feels like a Dandere.
But to be honest they also occasionally looks like a cool person when they're not being weird or a prankster, Kuudere.
Today when you talk to them, they never look at you in the eye, is it because they're shy? Tsundere may be it even if it's too much of a stretch.
They are definitely not Deredere, that's one thing for sure.
"______, right now, I-I think you're…A Kuudere! You've become one of the popular cool kids in class, haven't you?"
"Huh…"
You just stared back at her in silence, you do think your get up is pretty cool, you did become 'popular' thanks to your reputation as the random lost girl found in the rain, but you don't think you've actually become one of the cool kids or anything.
People keep saying that Jockington is one of—if not, the most popular guy in school, yet you don't really feel anything abnormal about it. You don't think his popularity ever affected yours. Jockington is just like any other classmates to you.
Or maybe you are really not aware of how popular you had been for the last few weeks on the internet around Hometown; thanks to Catti and Jockington taking you in as their friend and unintentionally promoting you while they were making a post on their blog or Instagram that has you on the mentioned section. Hard to know when you don't have a cell phone for yourself.
"Oi, Kris, hurry up and pick your ice cream damn it."
Susie's voice startled both of you, seems like you're not the only one in this shop. Tip toeing, you could see Noelle's antler, Berdly's blue feathered head and Susie's hair, you're guessing that Kris is right behind these shelves too on the next isle.
"L-l-let's hurry up and pay for these instead ahaha—"
Alphys grabs the magazine and put them in crate before pushing you back towards the counter, you just shrug and follow along.
Sans the skeleton, weird little man, you think you've seen him hangout with Toriel sometimes.
"Hey, what can I get'cha?" He smiles, you weren't sure if that's a greeting that a cashier should say when you already have the things you need in the basket that you had just hand him over.
"I-I'm just going to pay for these."
"Cool."
He begins to scan some of the items you've placed in the crate without bothering to even take it out, he just picks up the scanner and slowly taps it on the things inside. You honestly weren't even sure if he's scanning the barcode or not, you chose not to question it.
"Hey," He called to you, "Ever tried bubblegum? You look like you could use some."
"Bubble… Gum?" Sounds edible if it's a gum right?
He just grinned wider and pick up one of the gummy pack from the box on the counter, unwrapping one of them before throwing it inside his mouth. He chews on it for a moment, lifting his index finger as if telling you to pay close attention and wait as he begins to blow a pink bubble from his mouth.
You observed in fascination with how big the bubble has grown until it pops and covered his whole face with pink gum.
"Mind blowing isn't it?" He chuckled with a wink before tossing the rest of the gummy pack to you which you caught instinctively. "For you, it's on me. Just don't swallow and choke on it, you gotta throw it away once you're done chewing."
"Thank you?"
Alphys' continued with the payment while you decided to try one of the candies, it's hard at first until you start chewing on it. When the texture feels right, you begin to blow on it like Sans did.
You didn't blow the bubble as big as him and pops it when it's just the right size before chewing on it again, it feels fun.
You literally forgot that you guys weren't the only customers here until you grabbed the shopping bag and turn around to leave with Alphys.
The bubble pops again right when your eyes meet with Kris.
This time you're the first one to look away and just move along. It's not that big of a deal seeing your classmates outside of school.
The gang wanted to get some ice cream in Sans shop right after school before they head to the library despite the cold weather.
Noelle said she wants to get a head start for Jockington who is her teammate after they decided on a topic, but he didn't come with them, saying that he will come after Catti finished her part-time shift.
Temmie who is Susie's partner already went to the library, skipping on the ice scream because she wants to study fast. She's probably the only one in their current team set up who is excited for the assignment and is prepping for college.
Kris did get asked if they want to bring you with them to the library, but they just said you two are starting your project tomorrow. Not a total lie, they didn't know they were all going to start working on it today, and when they heard the news, they didn't know how to contact you as they don't have your phone numbers.
They know you don't have a phone.
There is also no way they want to call Alphys to ask on your whereabout, calling a teacher is the last thing they would do.
They were looking at the other side of the magazine isle while waiting for their friends to pick up an ice cream flavor when they heard the familiar voice of their homeroom teacher.
"A Kuudere! You've become one of the popular cool kids in class, haven't you?"
Without having the need to guess, they already know that is you right there with Alphys just behind this shelf.
Susie called out to them and dragged them to the front of the freezer so they would grab an ice cream quickly. Lazily they picked up on the chocolate flavor, not really caring much about what ice cream they like at the moment when you're literally in front of the counter just a few feet away from them.
Kris only watched you from the corner of their eyes, Sans seems to be showing you how to chew a bubble gum. They almost snorted when that skeleton man popped the bubble and it covered his whole face. Then they see you try it yourself.
They can see you struggling trying to pop the bubble before you opened your mouth slightly wider and popped the bubble with your fang, before licking them off your lips.
You seemed proud with what you've just learned and accomplished to do.
Then their eyes met with you just for a few second with you being the first one to break it as you leave with your groceries and Alphys.
"Wait was that Alphys and _____? Damn, we missed out on them, we could have dragged and forced _____ to do the project with us today!" Susie said as she already chewed on the ice cream along with it's stick.
"Fahah, Susie you can't just eat without paying first. Here, give me the wrapper so we can show it to Sans."
Susie gave the ice cream wrapper to Noelle with a pout, "Not like I was planning to stealing it."
"Hmph, seems like you got a troublesome project partner Kris. If only you got partnered up with one of the other best three in class, you would have been able to finish it sooner."
Berdly's words always make them roll their eyes even though it's one of the parts that makes him annoyingly endearing to everyone now.
"Not that, I just don't wanna start it today." They really didn't have to defend you.
"Then what are you gonna do in the library?"
"Play games."
That got their friends to laugh.
Though there was one thing they did want to look up on the internet. Kuudere.
Night came sooner than you'd expect.
Living in an apartment complex occasionally give you some glimpse on how other people live just by listening to the noises beyond the walls and floors.
Things can be quite lively on certain times, but you managed to sleep with a fluffy ear mufflers that Alphys had provided you with, although they did required a bit of—modifications, just so it could fit in your ears.
You've spent your evening finishing any schoolwork that were given to you almost immediately except for the group project.
Performing well in school seems like the least you could do to return the favor to Alphys not just as her student but also someone who is living under her roof. You've been keeping up quite well in school thanks to your curiosity in discovering your parts of yourself gave you the will of wanting to learn about almost everything.
It's something that felt familiar for you to do, checking some notes and books, everything that you could get your hands on, asking some questions.
Though sometimes you just feel like you could try doing something more, if not for Alphys then for yourself.
There is also another thing that you wished to have, a phone. You've seen Catti showcasing it to you on how it works as she text and call Jockington. She even took a picture of the three of you together in her phone.
As fun as it looks, it's something that you can't just beg for Alphys to give you. That thing cost money, while you have been saving some of the pocket money that Alphys gave you, it's still going to take awhile till you get the amount that is needed for a phone.
You know Catti is working at the QC Diner, you've been there to see her work before with Jockington who shared some fries with you while watching her work. There is nothing else you could be doing during the weekend, so perhaps you could try to do a part time job as well.
Ugh, you wished you could text Catti and ask for her advice right now.
If you got a phone, you could also explore the town far more safely. It's something that you still haven't got time to fully do since you're still a bit disoriented and would get lost so easily, with a phone you can just call Alphys or anyone for help.
You sighed quietly in your room.
Looking at the clock, it's still quite early, Alphys should still be up at this hour.
Carefully trudging your way out of your bedroom and to the living room, just like what you already guessed, Alphys' still up grading some papers scattered on the coffee table. She looks up and fixed her glasses when she noticed you.
"O-oh, what is it _____, can't sleep?"
You shake your head and sat down on the other end of the couch.
"I'm just wondering if…It would be okay for me to take a part-time job like Catti?"
Alphys blinks her eyes, clearly didn't expect you would want to find your first job this soon. She understands that you've lost your memory and had been giving you some time to adjust into living among society, you have also been a very good students and studied well with how good you've been answering some quizzes.
She swallowed nervously as her fingers rubbed against the paper she's holding, "I-I see, I think… It's pretty good idea! As long as it's not bothering your school performance, you can definitely take a side job."
"But… What makes you suddenly want to do that? N-not that I mind, a-are you just following Catti? D-d-do you need more pocket money? I-is it not enough?—"
You raise your hands and shake them, "No, no! It's just… I know I can't forever rely on you someday, you've been very kind and I—I just thought could help… with getting other stuff I might need, and well, yeah, could use some more pocket money—But not because it's not enough!"
Oh, _____, aren't you a sweet little angel.
Alphys feels like she's going to cry hearing how sweet her student could be, sometimes with you around it almost feels like she had a little sister. Now the 'little sister' wants to help in supporting her and it's almost like you've grown so much in just a few weeks.
No, Alphys had been anxious thinking that she hadn't been taking care of you properly. She was afraid that she might have treated you more like a pet cat she had always wanted and not treating you like an actual person.
When Toriel hesitated on taking you in, she volunteered to help as she felt like she owed Toriel for helping her in getting a job as a teacher, her mind was screaming in protest the whole time but she really did want to help not just her but you too.
One of the few people who helped her from feeling lost when she first arrived in town was Toriel, perhaps it became one of the resolve in helping yet another lost soul after being saved by someone herself.
To think that you've turned out to be such a kind and caring person towards someone like her, it felt like she finally did something right both as a teacher and a guardian.
Alphys rubbed one finger to wipe the tear in the corner of her eye and sniff, a bit too dramatically you'd think.
"Aaw, _____…" She sobbed, no, she shouldn't cry during such important moment, she needs to be supportive.
Her eyes lit up as she fixed her glasses again, a determined look now adorned her face.
"Since you're going to work at the diner, I got just the perfect anime for you as a reference! It's about a maid who works in a cafe but I'm sure it's not going to be too different from what you will experience. A-actually I haven't got the time to watch it, let's see it now together and dissect everything we could learn from it—"
Papers left abandoned after being thrown to the floor as Alphys grabbed her laptop and start opening the anime streaming site to type out the title of the anime on the search bar as she keeps gushing about the main plot of it.
The whole change of scene made you burst out laughing and went to grab your pillow and blanket to the living room, knowing very well this will take the whole night.
