Platonic Kayle x Caitlyn. The 2 like-minded individuals decide to share some tea after long day. Unfortunately, their responsibilities catch up to them more quickly than they'd like.
“Sheriff,” Kayle says. “You are precisely on time.”
Caitlyn knows. Being precisely on time—not one minute early, not one minute late—is near pornographic for her. That’s why she does it so often.
“Naturally,” Caitlyn says. “Punctuality is paramount, I always say.”
She settles in and takes a seat across from the Judicator. Hopefully her shakes aren’t obvious. Cait’s wanted to meet with Kayle for a long time now. It’s not every day you get to meet the literal embodiment of justice.
A pot of tea is already waiting. A sweet, faintly spicy aroma warms Cait’s chest. It’s now, as she peels off her own coat, that she realizes Kayle is still in her shining gold armor.
Honestly, Cait isn’t surprised.
“I agree,” Kayle says. “Schedules exist to bring order to the chaos of our lives. Being late shows a flagrant disrespect for authority.”
“Yes, yes, I quite agree—”
Caitlyn’s comm starts buzzing. She grimaces. Who is it this time? “Pardon me, Kayle,” she says, offering a nervous smile. “Duty calls.”
“Justice never rests,” says Kayle, with a curt nod.
Caitlyn excuses herself and takes a few steps away.
“Fitzwilliam,” she says. “What seems to be the problem?”
“Caity! Glad I reached you.”
Mercy. It’s Fortune. This meant nothing good.
“Sarah, I’m in a very important meeting with you-know-who, is it absolutely urgent?”
Gunshots going off in the background; the screeching of car wheels.
“Don’t you dare,” Caitlyn says. “Do you know how hard it is to get a meeting with the Judicator?”
Wait a moment. Is that…Is that molten rubber Caitlyn smells? And she’s hearing those gunshots in stereo now.
“Noooot really, if I’m being honest,” Sarah says. “But I do know I’ve got a bounty running into that cafe right now, so if you could keep her from smiting him into next Tuesday that’d be—”
Glass breaking. The bounty—a tallish man sporting a beard down to his chest—comes barreling in with a shotgun tucked under one arm. Just as Caitlyn opens her mouth to tell him just how dumb this decision is, he fires a warning shot.
The crowd scatters. Except for Kayle.
Kayle takes flight, willing her sword into existence from a gout of flame. She raises her blade to cleave him in two.
“Wait!” Caitlyn shouts. “This is my jurisdiction!”
It’s the only thing she can think of that might stop Kayle from outright killing him. And, indeed, the Judicator does not smite the man into next Tuesday. Only Friday, at the most. He collapses, unconscious, and Caitlyn runs over to cuff him.
“Dreadfully sorry about all this,” she mumbles. “I’m going to have to handle his paperwork now. And after all that effort to find time in our schedule…”
Kayle’s sword dissipates into cinders. She lands, and Caitlyn could swear there’s a small smile on her lips.
“Nothing forges a friendship like apprehending criminal scum,” she says.
Caitlyn pulls the man up by the cuffs.
“You know, I agree,” Caitlyn says. She offers Kayle a likewise polite smile. “How would you feel about becoming an honorary deputy?”
