SO, even though its 99% not true, I personally like to believe Tsukishima “fuck is this a social situation” Kei is a high functioning autistic (basically Aspergers) 

WHY:

Social Situations 

This bby is hella awkward. he always speaks in sarcasm and rude-ness, probably (in my mind) because he doesn’t know how to respond, at least verbally

he gets visibly uncomfortable when faced with an intense emotional situation, and often lashes out or reacts drastically (not at all/explosively) because of it

he doesn’t understand why they are so motivated, because he just doesn’t get it (see: Akiteru n shit, later)

he is polite to his superiors, which is something taught. autistic people learn their social skills based upon learning, vs it coming naturally

has trouble connecting/befriending people

is cruel because he doesn’t understand/to avoid social situations (see: Yamaguchi and hinata)

Relationships (similar to last one)

He gets VERY attached to certain people (Yamaguchi, akiteru)

Akiteru

Seen to be very close and reliant (almost TOO much) upon Akiteru

During confrontation, doesn’t seem to fully grasp why akiteru would lie (autistic people can't “click” with certain things, often with things like white lies, etc (very black and white))

Has large reaction because someone he completely depended upon betrayed him

he is just now repairing the relationship. most people would at least understand why akiteru did it, but he doesn’t

changed entire view on motivation bc he idolize(s)d akiteru and doesn’t get why akiteru couldn’t do it (but he can)

even if he doesn’t understand, he still continues to play volleyball and Aki still is very important to him, because it is VERY hard for autistic people to break the bonds they have with people they are attached to (in unrestrained situations, can lead to borderline stalking) 

Yamaguchi 

obviously very attached to him

listens to him, despite the fact that he was very opposed to his viewpoint

very not verbally affectionate, makes mean comments because he doesn’t know how to express himself (but yams understands!)

very possessive of yams, even if its not often brought up he seems uncomfortable when yams gives someone else more attention 

routine! he always walks home with him, they have a VERY established dynamic, often repeat certain things (shut up Yamaguchi sorry tsukki) 

affectionate in other ways that he can do- takes off headphones, allows the nickname, listens to yams, does his best to verbally support yams despite the fact that he struggles with it (is that tsukishima trying to cheer someone up) 

seems genuinely upset when yams is disappointed in him

takes yams anger in a way others wouldn’t (others would be angry/upset/try to argue back, instead he is proud and calls him cool)

HInata/kageyama

immediately discourages any interaction

doesn’t know how to act around them as teammates, he has only learned with like 4 people

doesn’t get it

finds them amusing, because he is observing them (like oikawa, but more for learning than for fun)

seems to be better at tit them more he gets used to/learns them

Intellect 

Is very school-intelligent 

not socially intelligent (like, at all)

high functioning autistic people tend to be genius level in terms of things such as iq, but struggle with social situations that come naturally to others

doesn’t make small talk–autistic people usually hate small talk, its awkward and they/we don’t see the point

Obsessions

Dinosaurs- this may be because of big bro Aki, but is a valid, if childish, obsession (I, for one, never grew out of that stage)

Strawberries- p much everyone has a favorite food, but the extent that he’s shown with them/likes them? not normal

music is very comforting, can prevent breakdowns/attacks, and drones out the surroundings, it is a very useful outlet, and is very common to be near-necessity for autistics

the hand thing he does- he probs learned it from Aki, BUT I like to think aki learned it so kei could copy him (autistic people often use somethig related to their hands as a relaxer of sorts, I, for one, crack my knuckles. a lot.)

Emotions 

Kei often doesn’t seem to have any emotions (I sometimes “forget” to have them/display them, mine are very dulled)

he seems to often not understand others, which yeah

if he does show emotion, it can be VERY explosive/dramatic, like his crushed-ness with Aki, breakdown over not being good enough, etc

emotions are really hard and often linked to someone/thing important- like, say, his dramatic mood changes bc of Aki n yams

Stimming

He likes rubbing his fingers over things: 

“Gansey rubbed a finger slowly along the pocked chrome of the Camaro’s bumper.” (p22) 

“Gansey rubbed a finger over his lip” (241)

“Gansey’s thumb worried over his bottom lip.” (281)

the mint leaves is a repetitive chewing motion, also the taste and smell of the leaves themselves. 

“The area around him smelled strongly of mint from the leaf he chewed absently.” (p42) 

“Taking a mint leaf from his pocket, Gansey put it into his mouth…” (201) 

“He put a mint leaf in his mouth and climbed out of the car.” (263) 

“Gansey himself sat at an old desk with his back to them, gazing out an east-facing window and tapping a pen” (p42)

“He spun the knob on the window crank.” (291)

Special Interest / Info-dumping

Obviously Glendower and the Ley Lines

Not to mention info-dumping he will literally talk to anyone who will listen about this shit. 

Even his teachers, “He hasn’t talked to you about it? He wouldn’t shut up about it yesterday. it’s that ley line stuff he’s always on about.” (p54) and “We talking about Gansey the third and his New Age obsession?” (p55) . 

Also later on when Blue comments “ The easy way that he began the story… let Blue know that he had told it many times before” (216) 

He’s so into it that he doesn’t even consider the fact that other people might not know what he’s talking about. 

(”Nobody knows who Ned Kelly is, either, Gansey.” “Really?” Gansey asked, so innocently startled by this that it was clear that Adam had been right before- he hadn’t meant to be condescending.” -217) 

Social Issues

for someone who calls Adam “socially inhibited” Gansey’s honestly not that much better off. He tries his best, but he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing, so he often comes off as condescending or offensive on accident. 

“He hadn’t meant to be offensive but, in retrospect, it was possible that he had been” … “He vowed, as he had a hundred times before, to consider his words better” (p65)

“Also, he was still watching Adam, taking his cues from him as to how he should react to her” (p195) 

This causes him a lot of distress, 

“Gansey’s words had somehow become unwitting weapons, and he didn’t trust himself to not accidentally discharge them again.” (352) 

And he spends a lot of time obsessing over what he’d done wrong / how to avoid fucking up next time

“This was going to eat at him all evening.” (65) “All night. This was going to bother him all night.” (66)

“Since then, he’d considered a dozen different ways he could’ve done it better.” (TDT p 78)

Other

“Difficulty making decisions”: “”I don’t know how to choose. Could you pick a card for me? Will that work?”” (p149) 

“trouble with left/right/other directions” : “he wasn’t very good at flying a helicopter, despite several lessons. he seemed to lack the important ability to orient himself vertically as well as horizontally, which led to disagreements involving trees” (199) 

“unusual walking patterns”: “He strode over to the ruined church. This, Blye had discovered, was how Gansey got places- striding.” (264)

“dislikes uncertainty” : “What Gansey needed out of life was facts, things he could write in his journal, things he could state twice and underline, no matter how improbable those facts were” (279) 

“distinct moral code” : “This all felt inherently wrong to Gansey. It was like the truth, but turned sideways” (402, concerning Whelk’s death) 

I’ve rediscovered an old special interest - Avatar: the last airbender! I’m like a firebender, I get my energy from the sun! ☀️ 🔥

Max’s inability to maintain long-distance relationships is pretty close to what I can experience, especially before I used Discord and skype and this type of thing.

Chloe experiences a pretty severe meltdown and is socially awkward. Her special interest in music is really pronounced in this game, even more than before. She’s also manifesting a great difficulty to deal with changes, just like in the other game. She’s also stimming a few times.

Also, there’s like this new girl, Samantha… She’s super cute and I immediately headcanoned her as autistic. 

She seems pretty shy, has troubles with sarcasm and, while she has a great sense of justice, it’s difficult for her to intervene and deal with a situation happening right now before her very eyes.
