“We both have kids, too. That’s probably the freakiest part of all of it, right?” She asked with a small laugh. “I mean, at least it is for me.”

“Honestly it is the strangest thing that we both have kids. I figured you would eventually decide to start a family, but I never saw it for myself. I’m glad that I have it, and that I have you still in my life.”

“We might have sucked in a relationship, but we were beautiful prom royalty.” Cassie laughed. “I’m happy we’re still best friends, though. I don’t know what I’d have done if we weren’t.”

“We were the most beautiful prom royalty that the high school will ever have. Honestly I think we would both lose our minds if we didn’t have each other. And now we’re happy in relationships that are healthy.”

“I’m perfectly happy already, you know. But if having a ring for your big moment is what you really want, then I’m not going to stop you.”

“I know that you are, but I want to make it official. I never want anyone to have a reason to think we’re not serious.”

“I don’t know if I need to take that as a compliment or not.” Cassie admitted, smiling weakly. “but thanks, Callum. For everything. Especially listening to all my crap all the time.” She added with a small laugh.

“Hey what are best friends for?” He asked her as he raised his eyebrows, “I mean just because we sucked in a relationship together doesn’t mean I won’t always have your back.”

“I never really thought about any of that stuff when I was little. So there never really was a ring of my dreams,” Jill admitted with a shrug. “I’d trust your judgment on that, but we could look if you really wanted to.”

“I want to make sure you have a ring that you love, besides it’s not like it’s a secret I want to propose to you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you and we might as well make sure we start it off properly with a happy woman,” He leaned in smiling pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“She’d kill you, and then I’d have to kill her, or Juliet would find out we did it and kill me. We’ve probably just got to let them have their fun and my mom would probably be upset if she missed out. It’s nice to think about, though.”

“Yeah I’m pretty sure that it’s just easiest to let them have their fun. But we could at the very least go buy you a ring. I want to make sure you have the ring of your dreams.”

“I don’t want the boys to see me like that, I think that’s the only reason. I try to be better for them, even though I really doubt it’s working.”

“You’re way better than you were when we dated. I highly doubt the boys will ever see you as anything but the badass warrior you are.”

“If I thought for one second that Cassidy or your sister wouldn’t murder us for doing that without them, I would say yes.”

“Especially Cass. I’m pretty sure she would purposefully tie me up and torture me if we didn’t let her do the planning.”

“I’m just trying to be the bigger person, or I’ll spiral back into the selfish train-wreck I was in school. But if you want to be bitter and angry for me, I won’t stop you.”

“You were not a total selfish trainwreck but I get why you don’t want to hold on to the negative feelings.”

“How soon were you thinking?”

“I mean I’d say tomorrow if I thought it was a choice, but I know better.”

“I hope so. At least, the part that involves me. I’m trying really hard not to be that bitter ex-wife that wants him to be miserable, even if he did…do what he did to me and the boys.”

“Listen you can be the not bitter ex wife while I can be the bitter as hell best friend of the ex wife. He deserves to be miserable.”

“The only thing he did right was those boys. And I can admit that even if I wish that I wasn’t permanently tied to him.”

“He’s already had the best that’s ever going to happen to him, and now his life is going to disappointing. Meanwhile your life is only going to get better.”

“Just the ones who don’t elope and procreate with me just to disappear.” Cassie shrugged, “is that really such a bad thing?”

“He was just a special level of stupid, but if he didn’t do that you wouldn’t have the twins or that man of yours. Maybe he did you a favor.”

“If you weren’t by now, I’d be a little concerned.”

“You have a weird way of remaining good friends with most of your exes.”

“I know it’s the same with you. I think anyone with eyes could see it, and it’s honestly part of why I love you so much.”

“I’ve been wanting to talk to you about the idea of getting married sooner rather than later and adopting Adrian afterwards.”

“I’d love to say you’re wrong, but he is the first love of my life. You’re a pretty close second, though.”

“I’m okay being a second place love after that little boy.”
