The risks of reading fic in BNHA/MHA before U.A. 'Slight spoiler warning "
They use the first day's fitness test to yet AGAIN get rid of Mineta instead of actually attempting to write him or develop his character. Or better yet, they decide to erase him from existence and somehow follow the original Canon.
I'll just say my piece on what I think on this matter. OK. You don't like Mineta. I can understand the reasons for it and I can respect your opinion. What I don't accept is the way he's handled in fanfics. Or better said, how there's not even an attempt to write him due to bias. You think getting rid of him actually solves anything? You're actually just pushing the problem somewhere else and ignoring it. You don't address it directly or even have the characters confront him about it in a private setting. If you're wondering about what "It" is, it's pretty obvious so I won't bother.
Besides that, people make excuses such as a lack of backstory or having a terrible quirk. Has a lack of backstory ever stopped fans from creating large scenes or creating their own world around that individual? I've think I've seen fics written about a character based on a leaked screenshot. So yeah, I won't take that excuse. Otherwise, it would make headcanons a useless term.
Now quirk wise, why is it bad? The ability to create a substance which can easily incapacitate a criminal directly or by using it as a trap? Same substance, also being used to allow the user to launch themselves at a fair distance and move quickly through their surroundings? Yeah, I can totally see how that's useless in a Hero course.
Also, acting like no other character can do no wrong. I'm guessing Kaminari gets a free pass since he looks cool right? Any character interaction Mineta had is just toilet waste that's easily ignored. I can tell sometimes when one's personal biases bleed into the characters to a point that it gets slightly OOC.
My take on this is a lack of effort to write a difficult character. You're staying in your comfort zone and that's fine, but you won't truly grow in it. Take Endeavor for example. Before, I would honestly say that I didn't like his character very much due to his personality and aggressive behavior. Now, I actually like his character and enjoyed how Horikoshi tackled that little redemption arc for him.
People can change. Sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better. If you don't have that faith and choose to see the negative side of things, your loss. It becomes an even greater loss when the moral high ground is taken but then they go back into the pit using the same tropes for the characters they like. Yeah, making everyone else horny after getting rid of Mineta sure doesn't seem hypocritical.
Pardon the sarcasm and length of this rant. It just irks me that all this potential is block by this wave of hate that sees no reason. Am I excusing his behavior? No! I'm trying to say that you can develop his character in ways that can move on from this behavior. It's only the first year, there's still plenty of time to grow from there!
If you truly don't want to write Mineta, fine. At least tag it so that others and I can exclude it or get invested into a fic several chapters in before seeing Mineta hate. I mean, 4 tags exist for this?!
