I think being the change you wish to see in the world is scary because it gets our society talking, you’re afraid the generation of today will think you’re uncool or too deep. I think that’s the issue. We are all in a hurry to prove that we are somebody that we forget to do something, which is to create change. I think being the change you wish to see in the world is scary because it pushes you to be outside the box, to think and be more mature; which risks eyebrows being raised and laughter in your face. I think that is the issue. Our generation fear the opinions of each other so much, they don’t even bother to be the change, to stand out and use their voices. I think being the change you wish to see in the world is scary because that responsibility lands on you and it carries accountability. I think that makes creating change heavy so it forces our generation to ask someone else to deal with it, to create change. My question for you is, what are you waiting for? Are you not somebody enough to create change? I think change is in full effect when it impacts people’s lives and this causes a chain reaction. Change can be through art, writing, art, music, you name it. Change can be big or small. So I urge my generation myself included, to stop waiting for someone else to create the change and then follow the leader, but rather be the damn change!

Dreams.
There’s a saying watch your child at 7 and see what they do : if they’re writing stories, drawing, building Lego, tending to their siblings cuts and bruises, driving a toy car, standing up for their siblings, playing with toy planes, working with numbers, dressing up and signing autographs.
When we were kids we were innocent, oblivious to the struggles of adult life, ignorant of all the disappointment and discouragement the world throws at us. We believed in what we wanted to be. Either an astronaut to an air hostess and our believe never wavered.
Some of us are lucky, we dreamt of building stuff or saving lives etc and so we trained to become an engineer, a lawyer, a doctor, a banker and society and our African culture accepted us without having blinking an eye because those are our “ideal jobs”
Why should other’s then always have to justify the reason why they chose against what are considered ideal jobs ?
“Why acting?” They say “Are you sure that’s stable enough, are you sure you don’t want to add law or medicine on the side?” The amount of times I’ve heard that in my life time is unbelievable really.
Unfortunately enough sometimes I sit in my room and contemplate why the fuck am I even trying. I let people’s doubts for the path I have set myself on affect me and in turn I became insecure. I love to act, sing and dance. It’s my escape it’s where I am most happiest. I shine and you can tell I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Why leave that for something I half love..
How many of us can say we are doing what we really want to do? What’s wrong with writing stories, poems for a living? What’s wrong with acting or performing for a living? What’s wrong with drawing for a living? What’s wrong with following the arts as a form of bringing money in? What’s wrong with following something you love?
Yes it may not be a guaranteed paycheck. But I’d rather do something I love than settle for something that I half enjoy. Now I am not hating on the lawyers and the doctors etc, i’m not even focusing on the arts. In focusing on our desires our dreams. I thank the lord for the likes of idris Elba and Abraham attah, our fashion designers out there, our artists they are making it possible for Ghanaians to realize the arts aren’t a bad thing..
It’s never to late. Be what you want to be. Don’t let society stop you. Nothing is impossible if you God on your side and if it is his will God will make a way.
Bless this post!! ❤️
