We're at the midway point. Whew! Will I survive this? Thank you ALL for being here!
Today's image was actually the first picture I drew for this series. It was my concept piece to see if the project could gain traction. The style has evolved a little even over the past two weeks. It's fun to compare this to the more recent pieces and see subtle differences.

Ian’s not a weirdo or anything, it’s just his neighbour across the narrow alleyway doesn’t have curtains in his living room so Ian can see right in. He’s not spying on him or anything but it’s kinda hard not to look.
And ok, maybe Ian has to move his curtains a bit to see him but it’s not weird.
It’s not.
He doesn’t know this guy’s name. He tried to say hello once when he saw him outside but the guy just gave him the finger.
Rude. But Ian can’t lie, he’s into that.
The guy is hot. Tattooed hands and pretty blue eyes. Great arms. A perfect ass.
So, maybe Ian is a little bit of a creep because the guy always walks around in just his boxers when he’s at home. But Ian could swear that the guy has looked directly at him a couple of times so he’s pretty sure that the guy knows he’s being watched and apparently doesn’t give a shit.
It’s kind of thrilling.
———
He’s a drug dealer - Ian’s seen him rolling joints, bagging weed and counting handfuls of cash. And he loves horror movies - it seems to be all he watches. The volume so loud that Ian can sort of hear the screams sometimes.
Ian’s probably getting a little bit obsessed because it’s not just that he jerks off to thoughts of this guy, he also daydreams about sitting next to him on the couch, shifting closer and closer till he’s flush against him, maybe slipping one arm around the guy’s shoulders, leaning in for a kiss as some teenager gets chased by a monster on the tv.
He’s being ridiculous. He’s picturing boyfriend time when he doesn’t even know this guy’s name or if he’s even gay.
———
Ian could just go over there and ask him out. But what if he’s not gay? Ian’s not sure he’ll get a polite response from Mr. Tattooed-Knuckles-Guns-On-His-Coffee-Table-Violent-Horror-Movie-Watching-Drug-Dealer. This is the South Side and Ian’s not stupid.
Still. He’s so desperate to know. Maybe he’ll get a hint, some kind of subtle indication that the guy is gay.
And as if by magic. He does. Except it’s not a hint or a subtle indication. It’s the equivalent of a flashing neon sign.
The guy is on the couch when Ian takes a look one evening. In his boxers. Looking hot as fuck. It’s nothing out of the ordinary until he turns on the TV. Ian expects him to put on a horror movie but he doesn’t. It’s something else. A TV show maybe?
No. Wait. Not a TV show. And the guy is slipping his hand into his boxers. There’s two guys on the screen. And holy shit, it’s porn. Gay porn. It takes Ian a second to notice the top has red hair and the bottom has black hair. His frozen to the spot, just staring.
Is that a coincidence or…..?
The guy turns, one hand still stroking himself, looks Ian dead in the eye and fucking winks.
Ian ducks down in shock and sits on the floor. Heart beating wildly. He sits up, peering over the bottom window sill. The guy is focused on the TV, jerking off. Ian shouldn’t watch but he can’t stop.
When the guy finishes, he turns back towards Ian and gives him the finger as he laughs.
Ian’s embarrassed. He’s more than a little bit turned on. And a little bit confused - is the guy fucking with him or is he into him?
———
He doesn’t see the guy again for a few days. Which is weird, he’s usually home. He doesn’t seem to have much of a social life.
Ian’s about to get ready for bed when out of the corner of his eye - something catches his attention. The light has come on in the guy’s living room.
He’s back. And he’s in terrible shape - battered and bruised and covered in blood. He hangs onto the doorframe before slumping down onto the floor.
Fuck. Ian shifts into EMT mode, he grabs his first aid kit and hurries next door.
The guy groans as Ian kneels next to him, “My name is Ian, I’m an EMT, I’m going to help you. Can you tell me what happened?”
“None of…your fuckin’ business.”
“Ok. Do you think you can turn over for me? So I can check you over?”
“The fuck?” He slurs, rolling over so he’s on his back. He blinks at Ian. “Ey, hot guy.”
“What?” Ian laughs, as he cleans Mickey’s wounds.
“Hot…guy. Next door.” He’s clearly a bit drunk as well as in a lot of pain. He can barely keep his eyes open.
“Uh, yeah, I live next door. Dunno about the hot guy part.” It seems the injuries aren’t too deep which is good but Ian still takes care to bandage them well.
“So hot.” His eyes are closed now. “Been….watching…me.”
Ian’s face flushes in embarrassment, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been. I won’t do it again. I’m really sorry.”
“Shut…” He takes a deep breath, “shut the fuck up. I like it.” He slowly opens his eyes, “Like you.”
Ian bites back a smile, “Oh. That’s….nice.” He’s cringes at his own awkwardness. “Thank you….uh-what’s your name?”
“Mickey.”
“Well, you’re all patched up now, Mickey. Let me help you up.”
Mickey’s a heavy weight as Ian hauls him to his feet, throwing an arm around his waist to support him.
“Fuck. So strong.”
Ian laughs, not knowing how to respond. He leads Mickey to the couch but Mickey shakes his head, “I wanna go to bed.”
“Ok.” It’s a small apartment and Ian can see the bed through an open door, “Here we go.”
Ian lowers Mickey down onto the bed but when he goes to straighten up, Mickey pulls him down. “What if…I’ve got a concussion or whatever. Need to…stay here with me.”
“Um, I think you’re ok, Mickey. I checked you over but- I could stay. If you want. On the couch.”
“Noooo.” He frowns and Ian stifles a laugh at how cute he is, “C’mon hot Ian. Get in the-” he yawns loudly, “bed.”
“Mickey, you’re drunk and injured. You don’t know what you’re saying.”
“Do know.” He mumbles.
“I’ll be in the living room and I’ll check on you.”
———
Ian doesn’t sleep much, occasionally peeking into Mickey’s bedroom to check on him. He can’t stop thinking about Mickey drunkenly calling him hot. Mickey’s into him. He can’t stop smiling.
He does eventually fall asleep and wakes to sunlight streaming through the window and Mickey standing over him. “Oh, hi. How are you feeling?”
“Who the fuck are you?” Mickey asks, arms crossed and a pissed expression on his face. “You’ve got three seconds to get the fuck outta my apartment before I kick your ass.”
“Uh-” Ian stammers, “I’m Ian. Your neighbour? I’m an EMT. I helped you last night? You were injured? And…kinda drunk. Maybe more than I realised if you don’t remember-”
Mickey frowns and then grins, “Relax. I’m fuckin’ with you. I know who you are. I remember last night.”
“Oh.” Ian relaxes, “Asshole.”
Mickey laughs, rubs one finger over an eyebrow, suddenly shy, “Thanks for…patching me up or whatever.”
“It’s no problem.”
They share a long look. Ian can’t help it, he has to ask, “So…you remember last night, huh? All of it?”
“Not all of it.”
“You don’t remember calling me…hot?” He’s teases, loving how Mickey squirms. “Saying that you like me?”
“Why the fuck would I do that?” He shoves Ian’s legs off the couch and sits down next to him, trying not to smile.
“I don’t know. But I just want to say that….I like you too.”
“Yeah, I know that.” He laughs, “Can’t take your eyes off me. You shoulda seen your face when you saw me the other night.” Mickey makes an exaggerated face - mouth wide open and eyes wide.
Ian blushes at the memory, “I was surprised. I really wasn’t expecting you to jack off in plain sight, where anyone could see.”
“I’m on the second floor. Perfectly private. No one can see in.”
“Apart from-”
“You.” Mickey’s cheeks are pink.
“Coulda bought curtains.”
“Don’t like ‘em.” He shrugs, licks his lips.
“Interesting.” Ian shifts closer to Mickey, “Y’know what else was interesting? Your choice of video.”
“Just the first thing I found.”
“Oh, no meaning to it then?”
“Nah. Not at all.”
“So you didn’t choose it because you like the idea of a hot redhead topping-”
Ian’s words are cut off by Mickey pressing a firm kiss to his lips and this time, when Mickey asks Ian into his bed, Ian says yes.
Mickey blinks slowly, a white room coming into focus with every blink. There’s a steady beeping and a voice talking to him.
“Mick?” the voice asks “Are you awake?”
Mickey tries to respond but can’t form any words. He hears the voice call for a nurse as he shuts his eyes once again.
The next time he’s awake for longer. Ian is next to him but he looks different. Younger, hair longer and less muscular. Mickey furrows his eyebrows as he takes him in.
“What” Mickey coughs
“Hey” Ian smiles “Your dad hit you in the head pretty hard, huh?”

╰┈➤ “At times, being bipolar can be an all-consuming challenge, requiring a lot of stamina and even more courage, so if you’re living with this illness and functioning at all, it’s something to be proud of, not ashamed of." - Carrie Fisher
“I fucked up, Ian.” That’s the first thing Mickey says when Ian opens the door to find him bloodied and bruised. “I-”
Ian doesn’t let him finish, just drags him inside and pushes him down onto the couch that they’ve spent many a night together on. Mickey protests, says he doesn’t have time but Ian’s got the first aid kit and he’s patching Mickey up. Softly, carefully.
When he finishes, Mickey lights up a cigarette. He’s nervous, avoiding Ian’s gaze. He only smokes a little before stubbing it out in the ashtray that’s still filled from the night before. They’d watched a movie together before getting distracted halfway through.
“I gotta go.” He finally looks Ian in the eye. “I’m sorry.” He leans in for a gentle kiss.
“What-”
“I just want you to know that I love you.” Mickey’s never said that before. Neither has Ian, despite wanting to so badly.
Mickey kisses him again.
“I love you too.” Ian says, it should be a good moment but all he feels is unease.
Mickey gives him a sad smile. “Just remember that. Ok? Afterwards? That I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
“After what? What are you talking about?” The panic is rising now.
“Some shit has gone down. It’s bad. Real bad, Ian. I shouldn’t even be here but I just had to say goodbye before-”
“Goodbye?! Where are you going?”
“As far as I can. Probably won’t get too far though, they’ll find me. You can’t run from them.”
“Who-” He grabs Mickey, tries to pull him close but Mickey is standing, tugging himself away from Ian and towards the door. “What happened? Tell me! I can help-”
He laughs bitterly. “Can’t help me, Ian. No one can. They’re….demons. Into that satanic shit. Posing as a run of the mill drug dealing biker gang, that’s why Terry thought it was safe to move in on their turf but-”
“But?” Ian takes Mickey’s hands.
“Well, let’s just say that shit happened and now they’re out for revenge. In a big fuckin’ way. Already got Terry and a couple of cousins. I can’t find Iggy or Colin or any of my uncles.”
“Terry’s…dead?”
“Yup. And it wasn’t quick.”
It wouldn’t have been - everyone knows what the demons are capable of. “I’m sorry.”
“No you’re not. It’s ok.”
“Just stay here.” Ian brushes past the uncomfortable Terry subject.
“And lead them straight to you? I would never let them hurt you. I have to go, ok? I love you. Don’t forget that.” Mickey blinks back tears and once again, tries to go for the door.
Ian doesn’t hesitate. No longer worried about hiding his secret, he closes his eyes and lets the magic flow through him.
The whole room glows red, warmth floods through the air and in a second everything looks normal again.
Mickey looks around wild eyed, “What the fuck was that?”
“Protection spell. No one will be able to tell you’re here, even if they saw you walk in.” Ian feels exposed, his heart hammering in his chest. He braces himself for the disgust that will inevitably come now that Mickey knows the truth.
“Seriously? How did you-? I don’t understand-” Mickey steps closer, confusion across his face.
“I’ve got magic.” He says simply - the words are simple but it’s a burden he’s carried his whole life.
They’re still by the door, Mickey still looks ready to bolt, so Ian leads him back to the couch. “Trust me, please. No one can see you here. I promise.”
Mickey hesitates but then sits, “Course I trust you. I just can’t believe….you’ve got magic.”
“Yeah.”
“Why did you tell me?”
“I wanted to but…” Ian pauses, takes a breath, “I know what people think. That if you’ve got magic, you’re bad. Evil. Thought you might think that about me.”
Mickey shakes his head, “Ian, you’re not bad. I could never think that you were bad. Besides, I deal drugs and give out beatings for a living, you being magic is nothing.”
“You don’t think it’s…disgusting?”
“Fuck off. No!” Mickey laughs, before giving Ian a soft smile, eyes roaming over Ian’s face, “No. But I wish you’d told me.”
“I’m sorry. I was scared.”
Mickey’s silent for a moment and he nods, “I get that.” Kisses Ian again, pulls away slowly, “God, I love you so fuckin’ much.”
“Mickey-”
“I still gotta go though.”
“No you don’t.”
“I can’t stay in your apartment forever. You can’t protect me, they’ve got all sorts of powers. And I don’t want to…be a burden or whatever.”
“You’re not a burden, Mickey.” Ian cups the side of his face, “I can sort this. I’m gonna keep you safe.”
“How?”
“I’ll find them, wipe their memories of you. Make sure that even if someone mentions your name or they see your face they’ll have no idea who you are.”
“Too fuckin’ dangerous, I’m not letting you go anywhere near them.”
“I can protect myself. They won’t notice me or even be able to sense I’ve got anything to do with you.”
“No way. Absolutely no fuckin’ way. Just let me go.” He moves to stand up but falls back down to the couch heavily.
Ian winces, “I’m sorry, Mickey, I don’t want to use magic on you but you need to stay here.”
“What did you do?” He can talk but he can’t move.
“Sort of like a magical handcuff? You can’t leave the couch.”
“Ian! Don’t fuckin’ do this!”
“I’m really sorry but I’ll be back soon. Won’t take me that long to find them, that kind of magic is easy to sense.” He kisses the top of Mickey’s head and steps away. “I love you.”
“Ian!” Mickey shouts as Ian opens the door, “I love you too.”
——
Mickey struggles against the magic but it’s pointless - the magic is strong, keeping him firmly in place. But he doesn’t stop fighting, the thought of Ian even going near this fucked up situation terrifies him.
It’s been hours. Mickey stares at the clock - it’s nearly midnight. He doesn’t know what’s happening. His imagination is running wild. He keeps straining against the magic, keeps hoping he can just -
“Fuck!” Mickey grunts in surprise as he falls forward. The magic has stopped. He’s free.
But what does that mean?
Mickey’s stomach drops - maybe the magic has stopped because something has happened to Ian. He’s darting towards the door within seconds, hell bent on tracking the demons down. If they’ve done anything to Ian - if they’ve -
He’s brought to a stop by the door opening. Ian shuffles in, paler than usual, “Hey.” He says, all casual like he’d just run out for a pack of cigarettes. “You alright?”
Mickey hugs him tightly, “Am I? Fuck…are you? What happened?”
“I’m ok. Just tired. Takes a lot out of me but it’s done,” Ian smiles, “You’re safe.”
