“That would have been quite the sight,” she said with a wistful little chuckle.

“It’s a pity that we lose so many things to the ravages of time, or to greed. We try to hold tightly to what knowledge we can to carry into the future, but… there will always be things that slip from our paws, and a day will come when we ourselves are forgotten. It’s a historian’s irony.”

“It truly would have.”

More than she knew, honestly. Aurora had seen a lot of things, especially in regards to supposedly lost gummi magic. She had the talisman right there, and a book on the table she was still struggling to decipher. The gelitan language was deceptively hard to read.

Folding her hands in front of her, she considers for a moment. That her soft blue fur and bright pink eyes hadn’t stood out to the stranger was a asmall blessing... but she did feel bad about shutting down the investigation.

Maybe she could offer something up.

Here we go-

She made a soft noise at that, something thoughtful and distant in the green of her eyes.

“Not gods, then,” she mused. “A bit more like Elves, I suppose. Some capable of great feats in weaving their wills into the Song of the World; others only able to do a little, and less in their dwindling. Fated to become naught but stories in the end. Still, it’s nice to think there was magic in the world once, and that perhaps there is a spark of truth to every story.”

“I’ve heard the comparison to the fair folk here and there. I grew up in England myself- near Birdingham. Some of the old tales indicate that they could even make a magic potion that increased their strength and speed tenfold. Remarkable stories, really.”

There was a certain fondness in how she said that, perhaps unintentional- her excursions with her mother, her meeting Kit and Molly, her accepting her own unusual heritage... she may have only been part gummi bear herself, and she knew how important it was to keep certain things as secret as she could, but she couldn’t help but think fondly on having finally accepted that odd, strange part of herself.

Rossiel brightened even further once Aurora looked more comfortable, allowing her tail a slight – albeit carefully controlled given their current surroundings – wag.

“An honor to make your acquaintance. I thought perhaps I would begin with theology,” she ventured. “I’ve noticed the deities I keep are not shared by the citizens of Duckburg, and I thought perhaps learning which ones they’ve kept in the past may offer me some insight into the present. I did come across a… a vague reference or two to some ‘Great Ones’– were they gods that were known here once?”

That inquiry actually caught Aurora off-guard, and she blinked a little, briefly glancing at the book she’d just closed before back up at the young woman who’d wandered into the library. Talk about coincidences- of course, the Great Book was mostly illegible, and it wasn’t a library book anyway. So for now she simply gazed up towards an old crest hanging above a bookshelf.

The wolfdog offered a warm smile in return. “As a Story– I mean– as someone who trades in stories myself, I find it’s important to learn whatever we can, even the things we don’t understand. It’s not that the endless feuds of the Ducks and Beagles aren’t interesting, but they’re only a small piece of a larger story I know nothing about.”

If there was magic – real magic! – in the world once, and perhaps there was magic still, it would give her another thread to follow when she’d run into a wall with her research on the man who’d believed stories were glimpses into other worlds.

“My name is Rossiel, by the way,” she added hastily, with a slight curtsey. “I do hope you’ll forgive me for interrupting your reading, and I’ll try to make as little of a bother of myself as any library-guest can.”

Aurora was quiet for a moment as she listened, slowly bobbing her head along with the statements, until she let a bright smile blossom across her face. People being interested in history was always a delight- it was exactly what she’d gone to college for, after all. Resting her hands briefly on the pages of the ancient tome, she stood and heaved it shut, picking up the talisman to click it locked before looping the amulet’s ribbon back around her neck.

History she could do. The magic she was trying to desperately to rediscover could wait for a while longer- she wasn’t working here as an intern just to hold down a chair, after all.

The cobalt colored ursine sighed after she spoke, closing her eyes for a moment before glancing at the canine, offering the faintest of smiles. She hadn’t meant to snap, but she had been so overwrought lately, pouring over the words in the ancient Great Book of Gummi. Open though it may be, she had yet to actually understand... any of it.

Gummis certainly had their own language, once upon a time. She really should have paid better attention to her mother when she was growing up.

I’ll go with one or two for each one!

For Brycen, I feel like him meeting Leslie could be super interesting, since Leslie is a former SHUSH agent, prior to departing the agency because she just didn’t have the stomach for the work. She’s a very kind woman, though- I think getting to meet the woman who treated the injured of SHUSH for a long time would make for a pretty neat interaction.

It’s hard to pick just one! So I’m going to go with all three that jump out to me, honestly lmao.

I’d have to say probably Hera, Aurora, or Odette. Hera because... well, queen of the gods, and whatnot, I think she’d find Rossiel pretty interesting. Aurora and Odette are both magic users, though neither of them are very skilled, with Aurora being a gummi bear, descended from the great Gummi Wizard Zummi Gummi himself. Odette’s... a little trickier. Her magic has no currently known source, she simply developed it over time. She has the power to heal, though it takes a lot out of her the worse the injury.
