“Taught myself! I built my first crossbow with my grandpa’s help, and with the help of some blueprints online, but after that I mostly used it just to shoot cans and stuff out back or in the basement of the labs when it was late or everyone was busy.

Having been homeschooled for a decent chunk of her childhood, Gosalyn was honestly never quite sure how to act when new scientists and researchers came into the lab. She wasn’t scared of Fenton the first time he showed up, but she was definitely anxious, sticking close to her grandpa and watching him like a hawk for most of the first day.

It wasn’t until, near the end of the day, she heard Fenton muttering over some of his work in Spanish that she finally approached, and they spent the rest of the day chatting in the language she’d learned from her father before he died.

Lil Bulb was Gyro’s first invention to be able to move and act on its own since he’d worked on Boyd, and to say he was pleased with himself was an understatement. Many of his earlier attempts (including the ill-fated Robotica, who was a fully active robot but not sapient like Lil Bulb and Boyd) had been utter failures, but this time... something worked.

So well, in fact, that he genuinely didn’t want to destroy the little bot when he first acted up. It took some time, but Gyro did eventually realize Lil Bulb wasn’t going evil... he mostly was just trying to protect Gyro like a child would a father.

Fenton hadn’t told anyone what he was doing when he first installed the device in his chest... and the first person to find out after the fact was Huey, while Fenton was doing maintenance. It was a rather awkward situation, with the fact that he was barely mobile during it and he had a hole in his chest.

Gyro has never been particularly good at affection, but he’s been trying with Boyd. He doesn’t have as many choices as he likes, of course, given that Boyd spends most of his time with the Drakes... but he does his level best. One of the better times in recent memory, Boyd was having trouble shutting down, so Gyro did the only thing he could think of:

He constructed a (structurally sound) blanket fort. When the rest of the science team arrived the next morning, they found him sound asleep inside with Boyd tucked up under his arm.

Steelbeak sat on the edge of his desk as he holds out the cup for her, concern lacing his face.

“nah, you know you can drop in at any time.” he assures her instantly. “my door is always open for you.” he crosses on leg over the other.

“…now you gonna tell me what happened?” he prompted gently.

“I don’t really want to.”

She took a sip of the coffee, shifting so she could tuck her legs up under her where she sat. It was hard not to match his gaze, but she knew if she did, she wouldn’t be able to hold back what she really wanted to say. But where would she even start?

That she’d screwed up? Gone and fucked up, gotten herself hurt because she was too impulsive? She couldn’t.
