did fletcher have any right to go snooping into elliotâs personal business ?? no . would that stop him ?? absolutely not . they were the most important person in fletcherâs life , and if there was even a breath of doubt that they werenât doing okay he would throw himself head-first in the fire to protect them . protect them from what ?? well , he wasnât entirely sure himself ; calliban looked like fletcher could snap them into two pieces over his knee effortlessly . â listen , i donât know what youâre doing with elliot or why theyâre acting different , but iâm here to tell you that if you fuck with their heart , iâm gonna kill you , and iâm not over-exaggerating . i mean life imprisonment . whenever you text them theyâre smilinâ like i havenât ever seen , â the more he spoke the more he realised that he had come punching down the door like a debt-collector for what was effectively a text message , perhaps even just a friendship , but he had to maintain his role of overprotective older brother somehow . gulping down his earlier bellows , fletcher straightened himself up and crossed both bulging biceps across his broad chest , responding rather dejectedly : â yeah . iâm elliotâs brother , â which was obvious with one look at him . if it wasnât for the clear age gap between the siblings it would have been an easy assumption to call them twins .
Well then. One thing Cali hadnât expected upon answering his door tonight was this, but he supposes it was only a matter of time considering his knowledge of how close the Liu siblings are. The truth is, Fletcherâs instincts are right about parts of this, about how both Cali and Elliot smile like crazy when they talk to each other, or about how they have affected each otherâs lives in such a way that makes both of them a little bit different. Things are changing more and more over time, minute but present; heâll coax Elliot a little more out of their shell, and then heâll gravitate towards their warmth because he canât seem to help it, greedy and sun-starved like a flower budding up during a late winter. A look of understanding passes over their features, clouded only by their ever-present defensiveness and anxiety, and while they keep their distance from him, they are beginning to understand why heâs here. Caliban is nothing if not reasonable, sometimes to a fault. âIâm not going to hurt them.â He means it when he says that. At least... heâll never hurt them intentionally, but thereâs a lot that they donât know about him. A lot that nobody around here knows about him. âI-I wouldnât let anybody do that, in fact. Not while Iâm around. And I know what youâre implying, but thereâs never been anything Iâve wanted to do more than make sure theyâre happy.â Even if in the long run it isnât him that can make them happy. As long as theyâre okay, thatâs what matters to him.Â
