"Come on,” she nudged him with her shoulder. She noticed how his eyes briefly dropped to her still-damp bra and the outline of her hard nipples. His mouth went dry.
“You could sleep with anyone in Jackson except me and Esther… who would it be?”
Joel stared at her through the haze of smoke for a moment.
“Maria, maybe.”
Ellie choked on the smoke so hard that tears sprang to her eyes.
“What?” she breathed.
“I’m kidding,” he smirked lazily and took a slow drag, but Ellie could have sworn something strange flashed in his eyes.
Joel leaned his head back against the couch and closed his eyes for a second, as if wondering whether he should continue. Then he did anyway.
“I’ve always had a thing for blondes.”
“And apparently you also have a thing for weed.” Ellie smirked, though it was more bitter than amused. “I’m telling her.”
“Please don’t,” he replied immediately, almost in a panic, and let out a soft laugh. His cheeks were slightly flushed from all the smoking. Then he looked at her and added more slowly, his voice already heavily smoothed by the weed: “If I had no inhibitions…”
Do you even have any left? Ellie thought bitterly.
He didn’t finish the sentence, just shrugged, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
“You would really go after your own brother’s woman?”
He shifted, running his other hand through his hair. “Things have been pretty rocky between them lately. Tommy would never find out,” he said quietly and took another drag. “And if he did… well, it would be his fault for leaving her alone.”
“You’re kind of an asshole, you know that?” she couldn’t help herself, though she didn’t say it too aggressively.
Just shocked. The idea of Joel having sex with Maria… was simply weird and twisted. Both of them were attractive in their own way and close in age, but… God, she tried to push the thought away immediately.

I’m sorry it took me a while to reply, I kept rewriting this because I was too shy and honestly still get nervous talking to people online haha.
But seriously, this means the absolute world to me. I love making moodboards and writing fics, so knowing someone loves them enough to save them as wallpapers… that’s the biggest compliment I could ever get!!
Right now I’m deep in Trapped in Lies on AO3 (it’s gonna be a long one, sorry not sorry lol), but I already have a couple more Joel/Ellie fics in the drafts and some new moodboards in the works too 🤭
