but i love the dynamic of beetlejuice and lydia in the tv series. bj being a childish, unemployed unc (yet not a fully manchild as he can learn from his fuck ups and even has some utterly insane yet effective business plans), who drags lydia into various wacky adventures and lydia being both a partner in crime and someone who strives to make him a better person despite his clearly antisocial lifestyle.
and the writers admitted they deliberately played up the attachment as "more than friends". lydia almost kissed him in the pilot (she stopped bc bugs in his teeth) and he calls her his "girlfriend" in s4. in s1 episode 8 bj also gets worried that lydia would be forcefully married to the villain and experience horrible life which contrasts with his behaviour in the movie.
now the last episode of s4 (it's a wonderful afterlife) is what really made me tear up. bettlejuice wishes he never existed, sees that without him lydia is miserable and alone, and immediately cancels the wish because her happiness matters more than his own. it's simply peak.
is the ship problematic? no shit. but do you see any free of charge fucks that i would give?
