This pretty much explains it though— Autistic ass who yaps a lot about seals and if there’s a fictional character who is a gal that has a short haircut and has trauma or other issues you can bet 99.9% that’s gonna be my favorite character. And I have a wonderful husband who I love very much that enables my seal hyperfixation 🦭

• I don't really come on here much besides to post stuff and dip. I also don't really follow much people unless I know you for the same reason. Nowadays I focus primarily on my real life.
• I draw using IbisPaintX via using my finger, and other times use acrylic paint, alcohol markers, or watercolor. I hand-sew a lot of my fursuit and any other sewing adjacent stuff.
• Besides my art-username related names, I go by Laika for personal reasons relating to surviving my childhood/personal attachment I have for the real Laika and her heartbreaking story. I also am attached to the selkie legend for more personal reasons relating to surviving past abuse and my love for the ocean — this quote about selkie women connecting with me intensely. (“It occurred to me that there have always been selkie women: women who did not seem to belong to this world, because they did not fit into prevailing notions of what women were supposed to be." — Theodora Goss) It’s also probably because as an autistic person, the idea of being trapped in a place I don’t feel I’m meant to be or don't belong to resonates with me; I often feel like people compare me to a wild animal when I'm unable to be "tamed" or molded into society, often reduced to my gender assigned at birth and taken advantage of for it, much like the legends of the animal-women. As such, I'm also a sucker for any mythology of similar nature such as swan maidens for similar reasons. The legends of the wild women inspired me to keep going and survive what I went through, to bite back and learn to wear my own skin again.
• That being said I do use the term selkie to describe myself- I do fall under the alterhuman umbrella because of like reasons above. Sometimes I use therian because sometimes I seal. But I think selkie or selkie-hearted fits me best most of the time with my weird human-seal nature. I don't really care what word is used for me because in a way depending on the day I fit them all at times if that makes sense. 🤷♀️
• I draw animals better than humans. Reason? I grew up drawing warrior cats and spirit-style horses.
• I have a mascot that of course is a seal (harbor seal), and a persona/fursona who is a selkie (northern fur seal). My art business is also seal themed! Like the name suggests I tend to vend only at Cali cons rn. 🌊
• I love harbor seals, fur seals, and grey seals the most. Grey seals have a place in my heart since most selkie legends involve their species, harbor seals I’ve grown up seeing a lot on the Cali coast, and fur seals are what I feel I would be reincarnated into because their personality and quirks fit me best. But I like any pinniped!
