I’m really looking forward to the last month of true summer! I fly to London on August 31 and begin my study abroad program so there is a lot to prepare for but also a lot to enjoy until then. Anticipation is part of the journey! Here’s to fresh strawberries, Hong Kong style boba, warm nights, binge watching Star Wars, and finishing the books that have been waiting for me to come back to them all year long. 🍓

ながら can only be used to connect two actions performed by the same individual. It cannot describe an action performed while another person does something else.

Examples・例・れい： 今日は私のおごりです。・きょうはわたしのおごりです。 It’s on me today. これ、私に払わせて。・これ、わたしにはらわせて。 Let me pay for this. 支払いは私ね。・しはらいはわたしね。 I’ll pay for it. 私がご馳走します。・わたしがごちそうします。 I will treat you. ランチをご馳走したいんだけど。・ランチをごちそうしたいんだけど。 I want to take you out for lunch. 会計は私が引き受けるね。・かいけいはわたしがひきうけるね。 I’ll get the check. 会計は私に任せて。・かいけいはわたしにまかせて。 I’ll take care of the check. 今回は私のおごりね。・こんかいはわたしのおごりね。 It’s my treat this time. 今回は私が払うので次回お願いします。・こんかいはわたしがはらうので、じかいおねがいします。 I’ll pay this time, so you can next time. 何飲みたい。一杯おごるよ。・なにのみたい？いっぱいおごるよ。 What do you want to drink? I’ll buy you one. And if someone treats you, you can say； 次回は私がおごりますね。・じかいはわたしがおごりますね。 Next time I will pay. 次回の支払いは私ね。・じかいのしはらいはわたしね。 I’ll get the check next time.
