&&.     although hayden knows she should S T O P, her impulsivity prevents her from doing so. the brunette should S T O P doing a lot of things â downing another shot, pranking, r e s e n t i n g society, mourning zanderâs death, pushing caleb to the breaking point, thinking with her overzealous, romantic heart rather than her rational mind, & the list goes on. her emotions are scattered as if swept in & out by the alcoholâs tide, drowning in the sea of liquor sheâs consumed. although her bodyâs overly warm thanks to the hot summer night & the alcohol, goosebumps still stand attentively on her body. hayden l o n g s for the warmth only her brotherâs touch could give her, smaller frame enveloped in his larger one as strong arms would wrap P R O T E C T I V E L Y around her ( zander had a penchant for being the protector, everyoneâs savior â especially haydenâs ). â yaâ didnât have to, â hayden murmurs sullenly, will overpowered as her hand mechanically reaches for another shot. the brunette grunts, wearily eyeing the other as she replies, â hmm, so yaâ thieve for yourself ? i wouldâve liked it better if you had a cause. if all the goods are going to you, shouldnât yaâ be richer by now ? i mean surely youâve been doing this for y e a r s. â like a sponge, hayden intends to squeeze all the information out of caleb until her curiosity is satiated, until she U N D E R S T A N D S the fascinating male. she cracks a small smile, â i think the alcoholâs gotten to your head, but hey, lemme know if yaâ find one. iâll assume yaâ stole it. â
&&.     â you took the fuckinâ wallet, donât try & be smart with me. â hayden retorts as she glares at the other, hazel hues burning with the unspoken, â put it back before i do it again. â doubling over, hayden begins to cackle, reaction fueled by her current drunken state. her abs ache as the laughter continues to tumble from her plush lips like a child rolling down a steep, grassy hill. â seems to me like yaâ are. all yaâ do is thieve. & for what ? what was the fuckinâ point of takinâ that poor manâs wallet ? âm sittinâ right here, iâve clearly got enough to cover us both, yet youâd rather take money from a stranger ? it was so impulsive, â hayden trails off, hazel hues widening with her discovery, â youâve got to be. â the last phrase is whispered, tone filled with wonderment as her gaze studies the other as if he were a fascinating exhibit. most would call hayden immoral, the way she spoke & acted was enough to prompt the most pious to urge her to attend church or to repent for her actions. yet, a certain superiority overtakes her as he mentions thieving, a ten commandment, no longer bothers him. it makes the brunette feel better about herself, yet a piece of hayden knows that type of thinking is d a n g e r o u s â itâs the same type she abhors when her peers would treat others disdainfully due to their lack of status. instead, a new thought takes root as hayden prompts, â howâd yaâ learn ? â the moment feels I N T I M A T E, in a way hayden both loathes, yet secretly c r a v e s. her mouth feels dry, gaze unable to leave the others as mocha melts with toffee. â yeah well, â hayden murmurs softly, â yaâ never really ask. at least not in the way yaâ need to to get to know me. besides, youâre so caught up in thinkinâ âm puttinâ on this grand F A C A D E, but whatâs hidden isnât large. unlike your secret, mine w o n â t put me in jail. â coughing slightly, the brunette forces herself to rip her gaze away, body suddenly much warmer than it was previously. his words shouldnât kickstart her heart the way they do, mind chastising the fragile organ that flits excitedly in her chest. when soft lips briefly touch her own, haydenâs body freezes in shock as a hand falls delicately onto his shoulder, suddenly reminded the other is still shirtless. she chokes on her own gasp, unable to breathe as her pulls away so quickly it makes her inebriated mind question whether this is R E A L I T Y. before she can speak, he does & it makes her stomach drop in a different way â disappointedly. her b i t t e r mind scoffs at her candy heart for being so naive ( it was just a D R U N K E N mistake ). â told yaâ. â hayden murmurs, gaze intently studying the floor. â guess yaâ make a lotta mistakes when youâre drunk, huh ? â
&&.      explaining why and how he did what he did was d i f f i c u l t. the two of them were so different but with his unspoken similarity; a part of him wanted to confess it all, letting it all rise off his shoulders, but the other knew she would never get. explaining to her his reason for thieving would be like teaching a rock to swim: USELESS. âi never said thatâs what i did. itâs just, wellâ itâs just a lot more C O M P L I C A T E D then that. you wouldnât understand.â caleb rolled his eyes around, shaking his head. âmaybe i just need to get the alcohol to get to you; but donât worry when i find one iâll let you ride it sometime.â he laughed, without context it seemed sexual but he would let her borrow is magic carpet if one ever fell into his possession. he would probably make a profit if he made( EVERYONE ELSE ) pay to use it. caleb would make bank; which ultimately, was is main goal in life. WEALTH.  it had always been what he wanted. growing up p o o r made him always want more. the grass was always greener on the other side. he wanted more money; more cars; more houses; more clothes. anything he currently had he always wanted more. sure that was GREEDY but everyone wanted something in life. what he wanted expanded over more than just one thing. leaving him with any of opportunities. to put it kindly. â years? well, yeah, i mean since i was.. like TWELVE.. ELEVEN?â caleb shrugged his shoulders, after years of stealing it became more of a second nature than a sinful activity. a part of that had to have been the klepto in him talking, but after some time of doing a bad habit it become more of an addiction than a habit; EVERYONE knows that.
&&.       âi took the wallet, but i didnât take ANYTHING out of it.â caleb responded, âand you know all this time you complain about my stealing but i have never stolen anything from you.â he saw her reaction, knowing she would not believe him. âi swear. if iâm lying God can strike me down right where i stand. i have stolen from E V E R Y O N Eâ mostly everyone. but i have not once stolen something of yours.â caleb felt like he needed to tell her that. somehow show her that while she might have seen him as awful, he had never done anything wrong to HER, and most likely never would. âwell iâm NOT. i would know.â spoken like a true kleptomaniac, denying it until the statement became true. although he knew subconsciously that it never would become the honest truth. â what do you think the streets are like, oliver and company? i didnât meet some nice guy who taught me how to S N A T C H stuff, i just sort of did it. you start out pretending you just accidentally hit them weird, then start trying to take wallets.. after awhile you just start being able to do it.â it started sharp and insulting but eased itâs way into a quiet. his defensiveness becoming WEAKER as the amount of glasses he finished grew. her eyes made it harder for the boy to be rude to her. the warmth that seemed to make his knees W O B B L E and his hands ( SHAKE ). breaking his eyes away from hers, âcasuallyâ smoothing the wrinkles out of his shirt.  though the break in connection made the subject spotlight ease to her. âtell me then.â he asked, âbecause every time iâm around you i can never tell what your intentions are. i canât read you. justâ tell me ANYTHING.â he wasnât even sure he knew what he wanted her to share about herself. he did not know anything about her, she kept it all so hidden. âyou say i donât know you, so tell me.âÂ
&&.       âMISTAKE?â caleb shook his head, letting out an awkward chuckle. âis that what you saw it as?â he could name countless adjectives to describe what that kiss had been, but a mistake was not something he describe it to be. there were a few things caleb gupta described as a MISTAKE but kissing her would not be one of them. â âyou know, this is probably the only good conversation we have had this entire cruise and i might have just ruined it. so i think i might just ruin it a little more since i canât go back in time and stop myself.â caleb turned to face her, letting out all his pent up frustration in a a few simple sentences. âi donât HATE you. i donât hate you, a lot, actually. i havenât hated you for awhile actually.â he leaned on the bar, letting out an exasperated sigh. he was unsure of how to say it any differently.  âi have not hated thisâ getting drinks thing. i wouldnât mind doing it again because i donât hate you hayden.â
