Okay, but everyone on Choices complaining that High School Story is an unrealistic representation of a real high school because there’s no bullying and it’s full of rainbows and sunshine and everyone is too nice all the time - this is literally a story based on another story game about a high school that was founded and built by a student.
On top of that, we have to remember that the school was *purposefully* built to be the antithesis of Hearst. That is, a school where all teens, no matter their identity, could attend and feel safe to be themselves free of bullying.
This is a story beloved for years by people who do attend, or did attend, real schools with “realistic” bullies they had to fear, and this story was their chance to relive high school the way they wanted in a safe, supportive and fun environment with its own unique challenges. Challenges that didn’t involve fear for their bodily or mental safety.
Are you really going to wish that away from them? Really?

Shout out to all #choices writers ! Writers are not boxing bags !!
PB always promoted all the forms of choices fanart, but not the fanfics ! Bc the #choices writers are the direct threat to their writers and the core of their business (after all we are talking about books, isn’t it ?) and the most vivid part of the fandom, of any fandom in fact. A fandom without writers will be a silent one, it would lose the voice that speaks for all the fans. The writers are channelling the concerns, the questions, the wishes, the dreams of fans and try to fix them, answer them, fullfill them in the fanfics. Generally speaking everyone gives credit to a painter for example, but writers work is stolen without shame by whomever and no one will move a muscle to defend it ! My grief is not with other form of creators or artists, but with those that think that it’s ok to steal a writer’s work and to shame them or whatever form of insult/offend they might think of ! Personally I would very much see a #ChoicesWritersBoycott and let’s talk then about PB, fandom, game or whatever ! WRITERS ARE NOT BOXING BAGS !!

They actually can’t promote fanfiction; no writer or company can without opening themselves up to a host of legal liability that no one wants. It has nothing to do with them “looking down on fanfic writers.” This article sums up why PB can’t and doesn’ repost fanfic.
And accusing the writers of plagiarism proves that this is smart practice on PB’s end. You have no evidence other than a few vaguely similar plotlines, which is a matter of coincidence when you use their characters and settings as the basis for your fics.
Exactly. PB have even mentioned *themselves* that they can’t promote fanfic due to legal reasons.
Not saying that NO ONE reads fanfic about their own series - the Zombies Run staff read fanfic based their app and even hired a talented fanfic writer to help pen some scripts this one time. But this is the exception rather than the norm.
So yeah, people can kick and scream and cry or whatever, but it’s dubious that they ever stole a plot from a fanfic author, and they’re never going to be able to promote fanfic like they do with fan art.
anyway perhaps use your critical thinking skills for 10 seconds and realize that lester registered as more of a real, close to home threat to fans because gross older men who feel entitled to your body can be found by spending 10 minutes alone outside on virtually any public street and that’s why people “hold him more accountable” than priya, who’s been characterized as otherworldly and supernatural and therefore not someone who triggers as much real world discomfort.
like i don’t know about you but I’ve been grabbed, harassed, and told to call things like “daddy” by men repeatedly, and male characters who resemble those experiences in which there was a literal threat to my safety will always register as more of a danger to my person than a female character who wants to suck my blood and throws people around because she’s a bratty teenage vampire.
This is true and absolutely why I find Lester grosser than Priya, because it’s something that I as a woman-bodied person have frequently experienced.
But I do think we should take Priya’s abusive behavior more seriously, because abusive woman are FREQUENTLY overlooked and assumed to be less of a threat than men, leaving lesbians and men abused by their female partners unable to find adequate help.
hi. op is a lesbian who’s been abused by a female partner, and nowhere in this post did i express the opinion that women are incapable of it and that their violence should be taken more lightly because they’re women. i merely pose an alternate explanation for the difference in reaction to lester and priya as something other than “you guys treat men more harshly, stop reverse sexism uwu” that’s flooding the tags.
the threat of gendered sexual violence is something constantly present in the lives of women and gnc folks, making the severe reaction to lester justifiable AND understandable. people on the whole register priya as less of a real world threat because it’s not something culturally ingrained. that’s all I’m saying.

I just saw this on the Wikia and thought this fandom needed to see it. I know the “ES ending discourse” was quite a while ago, but maybe it will help some of you to put things into perspective and be a little less harsh with the endings and the series as a whole. I’ll never say this enough, but thank you so much @playchoices for Endless Summer. 💜
I felt like I was in the minority here too, but I also enjoyed ending(s) to ES in their own ways. The whole story was composed of making difficult decisions, choosing what (or who) to prioritise and making sacrifices. The ending is no different.
I know everyone on tumblr and most people on Instagram were clued in to the fact that Hayden was a robot...
But can you imagine the Facebook fandom who spent 8 chapters reading Perfect Match, thinking it was a cutesy romance book about a high tech dating service, and now suddenly they’re on the run from the law with a stolen android in a private plane flown by an employee who went rogue?

ES was my absolute favorite book, but I hate that the tumblr fandom is full of people who gang up on anyone who doesn’t agree with the majority opinion.
Anxiety over making the wrong choice in books like these is a real problem for some people. And you’re just not really going to like something that makes you anxious. You can’t enjoy it, even if you want to.
Also, since everyone is different, obviously we’re all going to like different books (I know Most Wanted was a good book, and I kind of enjoyed it? Sort of? But not that much). This isn’t a bad thing. No one should be shamed for what they don’t like as long as their dislike isn’t fueled by bigotry.

it’s really interesting that like.. the tumblr fandom had guessed the hayden robot plot twist immediately but ppl on fb and insta and etc seemed genuinely surprised by today’s chapter
