Anon, with disrespect (since you decided to call me a bitch) , even tho the character is extremely popular and well known, the portrayal of it is based in colorism and racism.
Colorism and racism are not an exclusivly Western thing.
Listen to the sound of my voice.
I grew up dirt poor in a non western country, with its own colorist and racist undertones.
The brown minority was and is regarded as lesser, dirty, loud, aggressive, poor and uneducated solely based on the color of their skin.
Me growing up poor and underprivileged, and you have no idea HOW underprivileged I was at one point of my life, DID NOT make me lose the ability to see and understand, early on in life, that colorism and racism were ever-present around me.
It did not make me lose the ability to educated myself, in ANY WAY and it also did not make me lose empathy for my fellow human beings.
We can argue about morality all day long and bring up that none of us are a perfect moral compass, this is a issue about empathy and impulse control for me personally.
The golden rule in life is : If you are prepared to do something and deep, deep within you, you start feeling like maybe, this is not the best idea, IT PROBABLY ISN'T.
This is not about canceling someone, or harassing them, or what not. I have no interest in that nor am I doing so. This is about ceasing support and exposure for a person that deliberately did something that is deeply hurtful and comes from a place of prejudice to a group of people.
They may change and educate themselves, I truly wish for them to do so, that does not mean that they have automatically earned forgiveness, FROM the groups that were hurt by their actions.
Let us remember that this person is a grown ass man, let us decenter man for once in our damn lives and let us not freak out and come into someones ask box whenever they call out an actor that we like.
In other words, please just block me and get it over with.
