âOne of the poets, whose name I cannot recall, has a passage, which I am unable at the moment to remember, in one of his works, which for the time being has slipped my mind, which hits off admirably this age-old situation.â

In memory of television, screen and stage star Randolph Mantooth who passed away on July 9th, 2026 at the age of 80 at a hospice facility in Ventura, California following a lengthy illness. Born Randy DeRoy Mantooth on September 19th, 1945 in Sacramento, California, he started acting in high school and received a scholarship to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where he changed his stage name to "Randolph". After appearing in a few well-received plays in New York, he returned to California where he quickly became a popular and well-known staple of 1970s, 1980s and 1990s television, racking up a long list of acting credits. Best remembered for his starring role as Firefighter Paramedic John Gage on the NBC series Emergency! (1972-1977) and for his stints on the soap operas Loving, General Hospital, As the World Turns and One Life to Live in the 1980s and 1990s, he also made guest appearances on many popular TV shows during his almost sixty year long acting career, including Charlie's Angels, Battlestar Galactica, Diagnosis: Murder, MacGyver, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, L.A. Law, Baywatch and Sons of Anarchy.
May he rest in peace.đď¸
I think over the years Iâve realized that assuming people you donât understand are stupid by default is just like a mental shortcut to avoid having to think about why people act the way that they do.
Iâve kind of gotten tired of people doing that I guess. I used to do it, so I get it, but Iâve also figured out that you can learn a lot if you donât assume by default that people are stupid. Almost everyone is fairly intelligent in some form or another, actually.
For all its faults Tumblr has truly ruined all other social media for me because my friends all have Instagram and are all trying to get me on Instagram more but every time I open Instagram there are like fifteen things screaming for my attention and when I get over myself long enough to start scrolling it's like. Where is my chronological dash. Where is the following-only option. Who are these people. Why are there so many videos. Everyone is screaming at me. And then before I know it I'm thirty minutes into scrolling and I haven't seen a single thing that I actually care about. At least on Tumblr when I see stuff I don't care about I know someone I follow has found a new interest.

alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

My favourite translator said that when she was an ambassador for Hungary she took all these Japanese politicians on a tour and she was trying to circumtranslate âmerry go roundâ cause she didnât know the Japanese word for it by calling it a âhorse tornado for childrenâ and they had no blessed idea what she was saying and she finally started running in circles going up and down and they go âohhhhh, in Japan we call those âmerry-go-roundsââ
If you met someone with the same last name as you, how surprised would you be?
Not at all, it's very common
A little surprised, but wouldn't immediately assume a connection
I would be surprised and assume there was some relation
I would be very surprised that I *hadn't* met this person, we must be related
Does anyone else with this last name even exist?

Reblog if you too do not want to share outside with them.
i wish you could smell these photos
Today I learned that Van Halen have that rider in their contract about âa bowl of M&Ms with all the brown ones removedâ in order to know at a glance if the promoter read the entire contract. And the reason they do THAT is because they once had a stage collapse because a promoter hadnât read the proper way to set up all the specific technical stuff.
So if the band goes in the dressing room or catering and sees brown M&Ms, they know they have to double-check the stage setup for safety.
I heard about this on Freakonomics Radio. Turns out the bit about no brown M&Ms is HUGE, in BIG font, bold, underlined and quotated like theyâre on the Group W Bench.
The band was all, âWe have fifty-pound lights hanging over our heads and fire being shot out of cannons. We had to know whether they read our safety regs so we didnât flamebroil any roadies.â
interesting how this has become a meme in the music industry about divas. iâve always heard jokes that amount to âthis stuck up celebrity hates the green gummy bears!! theyâre refusing to perform just for that???â and its reading stuff like this that i realise how that joke might have come about. people get grumpy that the band refuses to play but cant admit its because THEYâRE incompetent, so they make it all about the M&Ms. another example of artists using a creative method to ensure they have a perfectly reasonable request fulfilled that is then bastardised by lazy people who wanna make money off them.Â
âŚthis is like the music industry version of hearing the truth behind the McDonalds hot coffee lawsuit
