Cain's guide to celestial beings

Introduction:

My name is Cain,

I use He/They pronouns (Transmasc),

I made this blog after my boyfriend convinced me i should "publish" my research instead of hoarding it like a madman (I have a handwritten folder full of celestial being research),

I was raised catholic and spent a lot of the time reading the old testament to piss off strangers in commentsections that threw bible verses out without knowing their meaning.

Like i mentioned, my original motive that got me into the whole angelic and celestial beings was pure spite. Spite happens to be my biggest motivater, since i spent most my time researching angels and such in abrahamic religions for fun now.

I consider myself both an historian and a library of facts no one will ever need. In history ive focused myself on more gruesome parts, but i feel like some of it is going to show up here sooner rather than later. -~- I enjoy poetry and music, i love taking pictures of things. -~- Im not considering myself as catholic anymore, im a hellenic or celtic polytheist instead. Just my interest in the old testament never really went away.

The origin of "Seraphim"

The Seraphims in Isaiah's vision

Cherubim:

While the first official mention of the "Cherubim" is first mentioned in the Book of Genisis 3:24, where they are given the role of guarding the tree of life in the Garden of Eden,

So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. (Genisis 3:24)

the specific role that Cherubim hold is never given. Theyre shown in the roles of,

Guarding Eden and the tree of life,

Transporting the throne of God (Book of Ezekiel)

or decending down as a sort of vehicle to rescue the speaker (Song of David, 2 Samuel 22:11)

Isaiah's first description‒ That of "fiery flying serpents" ‒clashes with the descriptions he gives later on in his vision.

Isaiah 6: 1‒8 most likely is the most known describtion in modern theology when it comes to angels (think the popular "biblical" angels), in it Isaiah describes the Seraphim as six winged beings that fly around the throne of god singing God's glory.

"[...] Above it (the throne) stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." (Isaiah 6 2-3)

Depending on version they also call God "YHWH (Yahweh)" in the verse, which is just the hebrew name for God.

Isaiah's vision continues with one of the seraph's performing a purification ritual on him by touching his lips with live coal it got from the altar.

"Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged." (Isaiah 6 6‒7)

The origins of "Seraphim" can be traced back to the hebrew bible, in which "Saraph" (burning or fiery) is used to denote  "Serpent".

Saraph is used seven times in the hebrew bible. Two being in the Book of Numbers, one in the Book of Deuteronomy, and four times in the Book of Isaiah!

Its only in the book of isaiah that the plural "Seraphim" is used to describe an angelic being. These Angels are only ever refered to as the pluralform.
