Can't trust nobody in a place like this

He heard a commotion and just chalked it up to the liveliness of the city, but when he  heard gunshots, he shot down the street and ran towards where it came from. That’s when he saw the gunshots bounce off of him and then the robber run off. Woah, cool. “Honestly, I’ve seen weirder,” he reassured him, hands in pockets, “I was about to help but then I saw the bullets bounce off you like rain and I though ‘nah, he has it’” he chuckled. “You alright, though? Want me to go after the guy? I’m pretty fast” he grinned proudly as he walked closer.

His heart instantly pumped his blood slower when he saw it was a white kid approaching. And then ‘I’ve seen weirder’ left the guy’s lips and Luke hitched his breath. Really gotta stop judging a book by its cover. I don’t know if he’s a normal fast or freaky fast dude, he thought a little light-heartedly. “Yeah, but are ya bullet proof?” he asked the kid with an easy smile. He shook his head as the sirens got louder. “Nah, best get outta here. Can’t let you get hurt.”

Thesis of his early deductions on the Zodiac Killer had him held up in his professor’s office, discussing in-depth how he was able to break the first line of code to one of the coded letters and that’s as far as they got due to Tim snatching his de-coded message with the excuse of being late to something which was non-existing. The previous boy wonder who’s ears are in tuned to disturbances around him, had him running through the broken glass door and tightening the straps on his backpack. Thankfully his hood was over his face enough to not get pinged by the cameras, taking him less time then most to assess the situation and making eye contact with Luke. “Doesn’t take a genius to guess what happened here…” Tim said, heading over to the security computer and pulling out all the cords once he had erased the footage, saving a copy for himself. “To bad for you the cops here are idiots.” He said, gesturing for Luke to follow him out the back of the store. “Unless you want to stay an have a chat with your friends, approximately they should be rounding the corner to the block.” Tim said matter of factly, calmly moving towards the back.

Luke’s eyes bulged as he saw the kid move with such quick ease. He almost didn’t want to follow him, because it was suspicious he had been through this rodeo in the past, but Luke did agree that he had to leave the building either way. Plus this guy had the footage of Luke’s ability, and he wanted to be on his good side. “Where do you suggest? Lead the way,” he shrugged and jogged to the back.

Walking home from the barbershop usually let Luke meditate in the crisp evening air, except of course for those times when he heard a woman screaming for help--like tonight. Quickly, he jogged towards the sound and saw a jewelry store getting robbed. He rammed his shoulder into the glass door, breaking it and setting the alarm off. The robber pointed his gun towards Luke, who instinctively put his hands up. With his other hand, the robber held onto the woman as a hostage. “You don’t wanna do that,” Luke yelled over the screeching alarms.

The robber’s arm visibly shook as he pulled the trigger and emptied his magazine into Luke Cage, whose body ricocheted the bullets off his clothes and ultimately shattered the front window. Faintly, Luke heard police sirens making their way towards him and the intruder. When he turned back to the robber, he had fled. The woman took a second to study the scene before yelping and running after the robber, as if a bulletproof man was worse than a stranger with a gun and ski mask.

Luke heard foot steps coming towards him. He brought his arms up higher so he wouldn’t be suspected as the would-be robber. “Not what it looks like,” he muttered, turning towards the other with a helpless shrug.
