Coffee, Tea or Bread?

Description: There are several letters in this sign that indicate it was hand lettered. The O in done is condense while the O in on is expanded. The Es in premises have different counter shapes while the strokes of the letters S have small variations.

Description: Caffe Vivaldi has stroke lines that range from heavy to thin in weight. The subtitle, Bar/Caffe, lacks hiearchy because it competes with the name of the coffee shop.

Description: The sign incorporates script and block lettering as well as ligatures. TH, ST, and LT are custom ligatures that take advantage of the name of the coffee shop as well as the style/look of the lettering. 

Description: The treatment of the Kneipp is not working for several reasons. The baseline and the cap height is arched, distorting the typeface. kneipp also has a white stroke and a 3D effect.

Description: The letter V and A have the same shape but they are flipped to differentiate them. The letter S does not look like the rest of the letters because it is poorly executed.

Description: The capital and lowercase letters have inconsistent stroke thickness and other minor differences. Although the san-serif and serif letters have variations, each has a common style and look. 

Description: Even though the combination of the C and the underline creates a unified design, it could be refined. The lower curve of the C looks flat, it needs to be curvier. The logo was handmade because the counter in the As are not the same size.

Description: Although the sign was influenced by 19th century posters, it is well designed. The various hand lettering styles do not clash with each other because they are contained in registers.

Description: T and H in THE has a clever lock. The V and B sound the same and therefore were given similar treatments. However, the B needs to be reworked. It has a weird counter and bowl. 

Description: Although the name and slogan are san-serif and capitalized, they do not compete with each other. Hierarchy was an important element in the design process of the composition. 

Description: The letters in Caffé are connected by delicate stroke lines, therefore, they appear to be independent. Each letter is also highlighted by a thin stroke around its curves.

Description: The script and colors makes me think of 1950's Cuba. Of all the script letters, H has the most personality. The white stroke makes the script standout from the background.

Description: The typeface in Cold Brew makes the coffee look like beer from the mid-19th century. It is overwhelming to look at due to its three dimension effect, strokes, and lack of color palette. 

Description: Unlike many signs using Helvetica, this one has personality. The mosaic treatment gives the sign its edge. I do not like the typeface on the beige sign, it looks tasteless. It drives me crazy.

Description: The arched text gives the sign a classic look while the san-serif makes it modern. I am not sure if skewing the typeface according to the shape of the sign is necessary.

Description: The curves in Juliano's standout because they are consistent. Espresso does not need to be presented in a secondary cursive script. Bar steals attention with its bold weight and capitals.
