There's a vision I get quite often... I am locked up in a room with a person I know to be a senseless serial killer. The severity of their intentions matters because, in my mind's eye, I would not be this repulsed in the presence of a more sophisticated criminal. They are tied up with no possibility of escaping, the ties being a tight rope. Since I know I'm in no hurry and will be getting away with whatever transpires in that room, I take the time to consider them.
I do not try to talk to them or mock them because I believe their senseless cruelty to be a sign of a lower level of consciousness, even though I do get the urge to do so. I don't try to communicate with them the same way I wouldn't try to communicate with an animal. Even though they look calm, I know that, deep down, they are scared and want to beg for their life. I know I cannot let them out alive because they would try to turn or take revenge on me.
Since I know I would be too disgusted to touch someone I consider beneath me directly, I have a gun on myself. I consider shooting them dead outright, but don't do it. Instead, I shoot them in the leg, because I know it will not be fatal. I know that you don't get an opportunity to injure a person and get away with it often, and I want to see how they will respond. At this point, they start to realize that they will likely not leave the room alive.
As they become more agitated, mostly from the pain, I continue observing them and prepare to shoot them lethally. Finally, I shoot them in the chest, then the head. I know it will take some time for them to die, so I wait. As they lie dead in that room, I think about how pointless my action has been, because I know that the people they've killed were meant to die the way they did. Still, I feel good about having been given this opportunity. The sensation is similar to the satisfaction of taking out a pile of stale trash.
