now that i have most of my childhood lps it is really crazy 2 go thru them and see their condition.
obviously, kids are destructive, and i was no exception, but a surprising amount of my old lps are in genuinely amazing condition. like i dont even need to wash 90% of them, and only the very oldest of my pets have marker scuffs and at worst, were drawn on thoughtfully [and then covered later with acrylic for customs]
like this is the condition of most of the 'damaged' pets
and these would be the customs [you can also see i only painted pets who i had drawn on when younger too]
the only exception to only painting pets i had drawn on is this one, btw. and i can accept a galvantula custom LMAO
its all just kind of surprising considering i was 1-9 yrs old during G2 and i played with these literally all day everyday throughout those ages.
people love when you feed other 'pest' birds like pigeons and crows, but never a gull. when i tell ppl i feed the first two, they get excited to bond over also liking those animals. but nobody likes gulls despite them also being intelligent misunderstood animals
anyways. heres the gull i feed, he waits outside the store i frequent to be fed, and even lets me get within a meter without flying away. today he got shrimp!
slowly working on restoring my childhood lps. funnily enough i have really good condition dupes of these two so i can compare
if anyone needs it, my restoration process [acrylic paint/nail polish applicable only;
TOOLS; a dull needle, my own nails, an old toothbrush, hot water, and soap.
PROCESS;
- first i wet the lps under hot water. dont use water that can hurt you, but as hot as u can handle.
get the lps warm [to make it easier to peel the paint/polish away] and as soaked as possible [helps make the acrylic more malleable and flaky]
if ur removing acrylic, id suggest also scrubbing with the toothbrush as u do this. soap can help i think? but not that much at this stage.
once done, dry it off on a towel or something, not thoroughly, you want it damp.
- then, use the needle to carefully scrape, pick out, and loosen the paint/polish. this CAN scratch the plastic, esp when its soft, so try this on less important areas first before to get the hang of the pressure.
nail polish is easier to peel off if u scrape lines into the polish [ull know it works cause itll curl in on itself, which makes it easy to pick up with the needle/ur nails and peel], but only if its not sparkly.
paint is much more stubborn in general, outside of sparkly polish, but it is a little stickier so its easier to pick out of small corners.
if theres sparkly polish pray to the gods.
this is gonna take ages, btw, so sit down with a show. i watched river monsters during this! 3 seasons down.
- once almost everything is gone, or you finish with an area. go back to the sink to heat up the pet, and this time scrub HARD with soap. this will get rid of the last few flakes
got my old lps and while going thru em i was trying to pair up the old mommy and baby sets that i used to buy a lot of and the distress while going "wheres your mommy???" to these stupid little baby lps was Intense.
these are all my mommy/baby pairs also. but i had two orphans [sold so in the box] and it made me too sad to leave them by themselves

oh trust me his nose is ALWAYS looking excruciatingly pettable and liddol but hed never let me touch it cause while his hobby is sniffing me and rubbing his big ol head all over me he at BEST ignores me when i pet him and at WORST pushes my hand away.
