The P.K.E. Meter or Psychokinetic Energy Meter (also much less commonly referred to as an "aurascope", a term not used in the movies) is a handheld device invented by Dr. Egon Spengler that is one of the primary tools of the Ghostbusters. Its main function is to detect psychokinetic energy, with the amount detected directly relating to the possibility of a paranormal entity or activity being present. Later models added a taser function for dealing with corporeal entities. Spengler designed the meter to be user-friendly, with the side wings raising higher, the wing lights flashing, and a buzzing sound increasing to a higher pitch the closer one comes to the paranormal target.
