Just starting to cosplay? Need advice? Look no further! This is your cosplay master list!
I am going to list off some items, tips and tricks all beginner cosplayers should know!
1. DO NOT BUY HALLOWEEN WIGS!!!
I know it seems fine and I am aware that a rare few wigs from Target are a-okay but most wigs marketed as âHalloween wigsâ are extremely shiny, thin, un-styleable or just downright trash. So instead of going to party-city for your cosplays, I would recommend checking eBay.com, Amazon.com or Wish.com for cosplay wigs.
2. Give yourself time!
Depending on the size and complexity of the cosplay itâs going to take more or less time to finish. So plan ahead, give yourself at least 2 months if this is your first time cosplaying at a con.
3. Know if you are capable of finishing this cosplay!
I know itâs tempting but if you have never cosplayed before, let alone never made armour before, donât start out with complicated characters like Tracer or Aradiabot. Start with something easier than that, like Karkat or Chara. Pick characters that you like AND are capable of re-creating at the time.
4. Get Organized!!!
I cannot stress the importance of being organized enough. Whether itâs cleaning your room or buying a planner/calendar, itâs gonna help a lot! If you want to start cosplaying youâre gonna need space, youâre gonna wanna know your deadlines! When is the con, where are the gloves I spent 4 days making and perfecting? These situations wonât occur if you organize things more, you can do this by purchasing organizers like this.

You donât have to have the g2b glued hairspray/gel. Not everyone is capable of finding g2b glued products, myself included.
Normal hairspray and gel work fine. So donât think you need something just because everyone else uses it. You might find something you like better that works just as well.
Totally true! Got2b glued is just my personal recommendation! Really any hairspray or gel will work!
Necessities: Gaming consoles, convention tickets, gaming merch, tactical red and black gamer chair, body pillow
Luxuries: soap, water
