Third is the unlucky. The supernatural world cannot always remain hidden. There are countless victims to a vampires need to feed, a werewolf's uncontrollable shifts, or a witch's careless magic. Once the veil has been ripped away, the unlucky have to learn to live a new world where acknowledging what they've seen could mean death.

Bring Your Salt takes place in La Luna, California. Located to the North of Ben Lomond Mountain, La Luna is less than an hour way from major Californian cities such as Santa Cruz, San Jose, and Gilroy. Founded in 1924, La Luna began its life as a werewolf refuge outside of San Francisco. While initially the name was given tongue-in-cheek, it became the Haven for many young werewolves and later other supernatural creatures seeking refuge. The town is now called home by multiple werewolf packs, witch covens, hunter families, and has even recently become a hub for the underground vampire-fronted "Red Market".

No branch of the Redd Coven is the same, but they all have one common goal: To enhance, pursue, and maintain magic excellence. Cost is generally seen as no issue, though each person has their own boundaries on how far they are willing to go. Individual boundaries are respected among the family with the understanding that the respect goes both ways. The only exception to magical pursuit is any experimentation against other witches. The Redd Coven believes in witch superiority, and they need to bound together instead of turning against each other. In fact, arranged marriages are not uncommon among the coven, using the opportunity to grow the coven’s influence. In most cases, even men will inherit the Redd surname unless they come from a better-known family. While the Redd coven is not as old as some of the other covens around the globe, their pursuit of magic enhancement placed their name among the elite. Some older covens remain skeptical at the new blood and their methods, but not many can argue with their results. Unlike many popular covens who started in Salem, the Redd Coven started in La Luna, California. Their ancestors saw the opportunity to grow in the west coast instead of competing among those on the east coast. Many have left La Luna, but the central head of the family always remains in La Luna. Any off-shoots of the central branch are given a name of a constellation as a reminder of their dedication to their craft. Traditionally, it is a matriarchal structure, but a few men have become the head of the family over the years. The head is referred to as “The Matriarch” or “The Patriarch” As some witches can extend their lifespan, once the head turns 70, they are forced to turn it to their successor. This generation’s successor is a bit more complicated this time around. The current head gave birth to two female twins, leaving the question of who would take over to be heavily debated. The Matriarch has been preparing both of them, but as she grows older, she will soon need to decide who will lead the Redd Coven forward.

The Collins Family is one of the most prominent hunter families in La Luna, California. No one can trace the origins of the Collins family, but they know one thing from their ancestry: They’ve been doing this for a long time. The Collins family doesn’t do it for the black market nor the glory. They do it for the safety and survival of humanity. Anything that is supernatural is considered dangerous and vile to its core. If anyone of the family partakes in black market trading, supernatural sympathizing, or hurting their fellow man - they are disowned from the family. If someone has the misfortune of becoming a supernatural themselves, they are fair game for the family to hunt and will be mourned as if they had already passed. Seniority and respect for the older hunters are taken very seriously. The older a hunter is, the more knowledge they hold. There’s usually a reason they’ve lived as long as they have. If a family member becomes too injured or (by some miracle) too old to hunt anymore, they help with some of the “behind the scenes” aspects of hunting including weapons, dispatches, research, etc. They are still treated with the same respect. Family hierarchy typically follows a patriarchal line. Structure, order, and rules are only a few of the mottos within the family. If there isn’t one person causing the shots, it could cause chaos in the ranks during a hunt. Children are taught about the supernatural and the basics on how to hunt until they’re old enough to go hunting on their own. The severity of the training depends on the parents, but most parents know that the earlier the training, the better chance of survival.

They are a proud family who have always valued community, tradition, and their ancestral roots strongly. They have a high number of destruction witches in their family line, and they embrace their wild and powerful magics with open arms. But due to their traditional nature, they shun anything related to forbidden magic harshly and any member caught using it is exiled and literally burnt off the family tree.

The Garcia pack is one of the most notable packs of La Luna, California. Having migrated to La Luna in the late 1970s, the Garcia pack started as a family of salesmen and laborers. They were quickly ensnared by Diego Ochoa’s ideologies of community support and welfare, with multiple members of the Garcia pack rushing to join their cause. Quickly the Garcias found themselves climbing the Heretics’ ranks, with their Beta, Hugo Garcia, becoming the Vice President of the M.C. in 1979. Tragedy would strike a year later, however, when Hugo would be killed in the crossfire between Heretics and Saints members. Since then, the Garcia pack has not forgotten their loss. All Garcia pack members left the Heretics shortly thereafter and Hugo’s younger brother, Emilio, ran for mayor on an anti-gang violence platform in 2004, condemning the Heretics and the memory of the Saints. The Garcia Pack is popular with non-supernatural and neutral factions in the town, as since Emilio’s election there have been a slew of other endeavors related to strengthening the community in the area. Affordable housing projects, community gardens, and low-cost health care missions have all been endorsed with the Garcia name since he took office. Emilio later officially became alpha of the Garcia pack in 2013. This was to say, everything was going well for the Garcia pack before a scandal connecting Emilio’s eldest son, Ignacio, and the Heretics M.C. was leaked to the local paper. Emilio resigned suddenly and in disgrace, causing many to question the former mayor’s true involvement with both the Whitakers and the Motorcycle club. As for his son, Ignacio has been effectively exiled from the Garcia Pack, though his status with the Heretics is unknown. As for their true nature, the Garcia Pack sees themselves as a family first and a traditional werewolf pack second. They tend to see themselves as better than the average werewolf, with the skills to deny their wolfish nature and urges being taught from a young age. Between his sudden resignation and upheaval of the pack’s influence in town as well as a sudden increase in hunter activity in La Luna, the pack grows restless. Emilio’s second oldest son has recently become Beta of the pack and is a possible, if not controversial pick. One of Emilio’s nieces has worked on bettering herself for the pack as well, hoping to succeed as alpha over one of her uncle’s children.

Formed in the mid-1970s the Fringe pack was a product of circumstance. Hunters followed a boom of newly transformed werewolves in Northern California, and in desperate need of allies, the lone wolves of La Luna chose to band together. Settled amongst the cheap and broken down housing on the outskirts of town, this group vowed to share all they found together and told stories of protection and family, promises of a proper pack, once and for all. But the nature of werewolves is volatile, and the whims of the moon meant the group fought each other constantly. Leadership was fleeting, every decision was met with opposition and every new position short-lived. But slowly over the next 10 years the row of abandoned homes made way for Twin River Trailer Park, and pack roles were formed. Sondra Cain took over as pack alpha in the late 90s and held the position on and off for the next 20 years as the Fringe barely clung to life. Today the pack is far from flourishing but larger than ever. They have few supernatural allies in town and their reputation is troubled. When something goes wrong in La Luna, the Fringe is the first place its supernatural population will look. However, they are generally left to manage themselves as long as they do not cause trouble, and the rest of La Luna, supernatural and human, knows not to go venturing into the woods beyond Twin River Trail at night. There is a small bunk house on park property that serves as free temporary housing for any wolves in need. Non-pack people and wolves can also live in the trailer park, but they don't have access to any of the resources the pack passes out. Sondra Cain stepped down and handed over the alpha role to her eldest child two years ago.

Despite the presence of a large supernatural M.C., La Luna has been far from the Order’s radar. Maybe it was just luck all these years or maybe they just weren’t big enough of a threat, but the townsfolk and M.C.s of La Luna had never had anything to fear more than the Collins and the local Police Department. That was until now. That was until the Heretics made a deal and unknowingly doomed the town’s fate. With the rate of gruesome and bizarre crimes ramping up and numerous sightings of well known members of the Red Market like the Fang popping up around town, the Order has turned a singular eye upon La Luna. Two agents have been sent to investigate. Their mission is this: Investigate any rumors surrounding the Fang and the Red Market. Report back on the validity, scale, and threat of such rumors. Investigate the Heretics motorcycle club, the Saints motorcycle club, for signs of involvement in the Red Market or existence of a supernatural nature. Of course while the agents may think this is a waste of their time, as soon as they arrive in town they will see that not everything in La Luna is as it seems…

The Saints Motorcycle Club is a 1% M.C. formed in La Luna, California. The Saints were founded shortly after the Heretics M.C., in direct retaliation to the supernatural threat. A purely human M.C., the Saints would find success hunting their rivals in the early 1970s to early 1980s. However, after a vicious and bloody campaign led by Herod Whitaker, the M.C. was picked off one by one until they were completely wiped out by the early 1990s. After the Heretics involvement in the Red Market and the subsequent increase in supernatural crime in town, the Saints' M.C. was officially revived in 2022. One major difference between the current iteration of The Saints and its initial form was the allowance of supernatural creatures within the M.C., though any supernatural creatures looking to join are thoroughly vetted by Saints Leadership and typically have some sort of strong hunting background. Once vested, they have little more privileges than the average prospect and in most cases, are treated more like weapons than people. Still, this idea has led to mixed reactions within the M.C. Some see the value a supernatural ally can bring to the hunt, while others balk at the blatant disregard for tradition. Either way, while it does not have the resources and prestige of The Order, the Saint's M.C. has become a threat to the Heretics’ plans once again.

The Heretics M.C. is a 1% Motorcycle social club from La Luna, California. Founded in the late 1960s, the club began as a dream of the counterculture movement spreading across Northern California. La Luna, home to a large community of both latine migrant workers, witches, and werewolves displaced from Bay Area metropolises such as San Francisco and Oakland, was picked as a prime area of interest. While the Supernatural Liberation movements never came to fruition, the Heretics M.C. was committed to the betterment of its supernatural members and community. However, as the sixties turned to the seventies and eighties, the needs of the community shifted. The first vampire member Herod Whitaker was admitted in 1976 and the first psychic member was admitted in 1985. Diego Ochoa, first president of The Heretics stepped down in 1987 after a twenty year tenure, with Herod taking his place. Since Herod's tenure as president began in 1987, the club has turned away from their founding values of community aid and protection towards self-interest and profit. Slowly, members began to get involved in The Red Market. First Heretic members started by selling their own blood, but many members soon grew desperate for the economic boost and turned to more ambitious schemes to procure rarer materials such as dragon scales and werewolf claws. Currently, The Heretics are only open to supernatural creatures and vampire ghouls.

The Whitaker Clan is a group of vampires that moved to La Luna, California towards the end of World War II. Having come to California in search of resources outside of a war-ravaged Europe, the Whitaker clan found refuge in the sleepy town of La Luna. Headed by Edward Whitaker, they are one of the thirteen recognized clans in vampire society and as such have lived an unlife of privilege and power. The Whitakers are connected to many different institutions in La Luna, ranging from The Heretics M.C., the City Council, and some local businesses. They also function as La Luna's primary liasion to Red Market activities as well. The Whitaker clan is primarily composed of vampires, though there are also several ghoul families within the area that take the surname as well. While many supernatural townsfolk understand the reality of the Whitakers' status, to the town at large they’re recognized as a large and affluent family with many, many cousins. Despite this power, the Whitakers are not unstoppable. Several attacks by hunter groups, such as The Saints, have left them vulnerable and without a surplus of members. Once such an attack led to the death of Mary Whitaker, a local entrepreneur who owned the town’s gas station, by her former hunter spawn Zeki Tiryaki. The Whitakers are hungry for power and will do anything they can in order to have it secured. Currently, the head of the clan, Edward Whitaker, is running for Mayor against young upstart Alexander Albrooks. His "cousin", Herod Whitaker is president of the Heretics M.C..

Before 2020, La Luna was never really on the Red Market’s radar. Crime happened, and occasionally the Heretics made deals with a random liaison here and there, but there was never any reason for the Red Market to have any real presence in this small town. Until the Heretics got greedy. Once a few members of the club started to go deep, looking for higher and higher paying jobs, and selling higher and higher value items, the Fang, a prominent figure in the blood trade took notice and offered a deal. The deal was this: permission to set up in town with access to a steady stream of illegal goods facilitated by the Heretics, in exchange for lots and lots of money. Now four years later, business is starting to boom.
