I love how Reddit is obsessively posting about how horrible Byler is now. Like if you hate it so much and it’s so impossible why has it become your whole subreddits personality after volume one dropped. Reddit is just the anti-tumblr at this point.

El and Mike’s relationship seems to be more like Draco and Harry’s and Will and Mike’s seems to be more like Ginny and Harry’s and technically the later couple is canon even if the first pairings had typical rom com couple tropes. Just saying.

As a gay man some of the reactions to this season so far are not surprising. The Mike and Will dynamic and Will’s self acceptance journey was framed through Robin’s PoV mostly so it’s not surprising that a lot of casuals don’t accept that Will is gay or Mike is his romantic interest and that it’s reciprocal. I love Robin’s character arc and my coming out story was very similar to Will’s I have two lesbian cousins who I came out to first before telling friends and family but I can see why some people interpret the dynamic as Robin being a poorly stereotyped lesbian fujoshi who “ships” Byler for her own amusement. It makes Byler seem fan service and fetishized in my opinion. I know the duffers were never going to include words like gay, bisexual or lesbian in the show because it’s so mainstream and they want to appeal to every interpretation possible to avoid as much pushback from homophobes. It would just be nice to not leave it all up in the air because a crucial part of acceptance is finding the right language to communicate your self identity and experience. I’d love to know how other Byler’s feels about this all maybe I’m being overly sensitive about it.

The straight and/or homophobic stranger things fans not realizing self acceptance is step one of gay love and that volume 2 and 3 will likely be the next steps of this adventure (a date then a kiss) if what the duffers are writing is centered on Will’s story as a gay man is actually funny, like the active denial at the possibility of Byler by some of these people is ridiculous.

Good thing we warned everyone we were closing the gates before season 5 and we know who are all the new fake Byler Stans. Best thanksgiving ever hahah.

Being a sorcerer is very important and different than a wizard, they are born that way and their power is innate rather than learned and mastered through teachings and writings like wizards. Will found that he wasn’t trained to have powers like El, he was born with them.

As we say goodbye to pre canon Byler and await its return in canon form in these upcoming weeks I would just like to say we’ve all gone crazy together, we’ve broken the code and now we get to witness a beautiful miracle that will be rembered this day forward as “growing up as a gay nerd.” A novel concept that was invented by our forefathers in the 80’s and which will now be celebrated every November 6th.

I hate that the season 5 marketing has been spoiling and then ragebaiting Bylers lmao it’s too stressful I just want gay love is that too much to be excited for!!
