I still feel like there's many viable ways to write a byler ending out of this I really dont have that many doubts abt it honestly, yall need to have a little more hope
most of all i just don't know why anyone would prefer to live in a world where all of these subtle, little details aren't intentional.
call me crazy, but i actually don't want a world where creatives don't intend for you to analyze their work, where the text is spoon-fed to you and there's nothing meaningful to be found underneath it beyond what you see at a first glance.
i want intentionality. i want deeper meanings. i want writers who let their characters lie and respect me and my intelligence enough to pick up on it. i want lighting choices and micro expressions and clothing details and parallels and closet imagery to be on purpose, and for it to mean something, and i want the narrative to then make good on that meaning.
i just can't imagine being satisfied by a story where only the surface level, spelled out for you text of a scene is the only thing that matters. i'm not seven, me and my adult brain can handle critical thought, and i want my media to understand that.
"it's not that deep" but what if it is, and more importantly why wouldn't you want it to be?
I know that the gaten interview was massively insensitive and honestly shines a bad light on how the show's been handling this ship on most cast interviews, putting a lot of the queer viewers in a vulnerable position by not treating the ship seriously just to maintain the "mystery" of whether byler will happen or not.
But I've gotta say, the memes that we're getting out of this on twitter are keeping me going. No one works more overtime than a byler that is pissed tf AWFFF
I said I would try to protect my peace by not engaging with any anti-bylers on twitter, but tbh it's lowkey hilarious

The writers hospitalising the wheeler parents so they could set up the perfect situation for mike and will to finally share the basement (since mikes room got obliterated) while jonathan and nancy share her room
for the record i do empathize with byler doubt but i have very little patience for it. i cannot stress enough how different this situation is from klance/destiel/johnlock/every other queerbait example people like to compare byler to.
i get the doubt. i get that folks have been queerbaited before. and i get that right now especially, it feels hard to believe a major franchise would break up a main couple to make a lead queer. and there are a sea of people who feel very comfortable calling us delusional all the time which doesn't help.
but like. will is not only canonically gay, he is canonically in love with mike. the show has built up will's love for mike for so many seasons that rejection makes no narrative sense. and the show has intentionally kept mike's internal arc hidden from the audience for several seasons, which is the only thing preventing byler from being shut down, if mike were going to reject will. we're talking about a show that has had the canonically queer main character be empowered by his own queerness and his love for his best friend to save the day. a show about underdogs and outcasts. they have dealt with will's queerness and his character so gently and kindly that i truly cannot comprehend them not giving that same kindness and love to mike's internalized homophobia and to byler as a canon relationship.
it's like... at what point are we going to trust our instincts and the evidence and the contents of the show? i'm not even saying to trust the duffers and ST writers as storytellers, but to trust ourselves and our own understanding of story. we have analyzed this shit to death. and not just tearing apart little details that could feasibly not mean anything, but from a big picture narrative perspective of the kind of story they have been trying to tell for 5 seasons and almost 10 years. the themes of the story, the trajectory of the character arcs that have been set up, the relationships they've developed. it all points to byler, indisputably, and to me, without any doubts.
so while i feel for those who have doubts and fears and anxiety about it because of the prevalence of homophobia and heteronormativity, i really don't have much patience or much else to say or add beyond the many many points of analysis that i and so many other fans have provided to show that byler is happening.
The plot point I'm worried the most about currently is the Jonathan/Nancy/Steve love triangle stuff. Volume 1 felt really dissapointing and almost aimless character assasination for them just to keep the conflict from resolving until the end of the show. It really does feel like Steve and SPECIALLY Jonathan's story arcs have plateaued in season 2/3 and they're just repeating the same plotpoints from past seasons just to keep them busy.
It feels like any sort of ambitions, goals and point of views outside of nancy they once had have been totally neglected. They feel like two sides of the same coin, that the only way we can even tell apart from each other is by our memories of how they were once in past seasons.
Jonathan specially is such big whiplash because he was so integral to the heart of earlier seasons, and it feels like he's become a shell of what he once was. He wanted to go to NYU damnit!
Why are they crashing out?
All in the span of a few hours btw.
Showcasing random aestethics I've curated on pinterest pt1:
This one's called "blurr". It doesn't feel like the most accurate name for it but I don't care that much abt it, feels very nyc coded even though that wasn't the initial intention

Ok we all joke about the stranger things subreddit and how homophobic they are, but highkey when volume 2 comes out, if those mods removing the byler posts aren't out by the next day, I would like to have a word with them. I find it ridiculous our theories have to be segregated to a separate subreddit. Specially now that so much of the GA is starting to see the byler clues
