Lottie chuckled, shaking her head slightly. “I never understood the mindset of that — throw on a suit, and you’re someone else entirely, and no one can tell you who you were beforehand.” she explained, before gesturing towards his face. “It’s the eyes, the cheeky smile. I pay attention to the details.”

She shook her head in response to his question about Oceandrive, when he spoke to her about her newness, and his seniority. “Ah, yeah, the Seven.” she replied with a small smile. Sighing, Lottie glanced towards the window and to the outside world momentarily. “Okay then, I’ll allow you to enlighten me — but if your girlfriend gets jealous, you can deal with her, and the papers.” She tapped the paper she’d handed to him for good measure, flashing him a grin as she tucked away her belongings into her handbag.

The Deep laughed back, he didn’t understand the psychology behind it either but he just went along with whatever Vought said. “I think it’s something to do with perception. The world doesn’t want to see a normal guy behind the suit, they want heroes and gods and we are that.” Maybe that was why they were all so quick to hate him? “So my eyes and smile are the first thing you notice, interesting.” He said coyly with that cheeky smile she seemed to like. The Seven was everyone’s dream and it was his even when he wasn’t even part of Vought. The Deep remembered getting the call saying Vought wanted him and he thought he’d be stuck with a low rated team but they wanted him for the best.  “She doesn’t get jealous and besides this isn’t a date, why do you think she’d be jealous?” He could do charm for days on end, it was all part of his image and even though Starlight had destroyed some of that, there were still some people who thought there was still something in him. “Where to first, we’ve got the second-best hot dogs in New York or central park. Dealers’ choice?”

Lottie would usually try and enjoy the show, but frankly, she was sick of hearing about Homelander. It wasn’t that she disliked him, it’s just that there were some equally as talented Supes that seemed to be underrated. Her daydreaming was interrupted by a gruff sounding older man.

“Yikes, sorry, sir.” Lottie mumbled, grappling to step out of the way before she found her eyes locking with his. Wait a minute…

“I’m sorry — but, you look so familiar? Do I… Do I know you?”

HIS eyes scanned over her at her question, he had stopped on his way past to make sure he knew her or he didn’t but didn’t think they knew each other. “Y’know what it might be me face. I ‘ave one of them faces that everyone thinks they know but they don’t. You looked as sick of this shit as I did. Hate the supes, do ‘ya?”

With a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach, Lottie tossed the paper onto he chipped wooden table before glancing around the café she had come to sit in. There was something sickening about what happened, but as always, Lottie found herself sceptical about the reported incidents. Once upon a time, doubt and investigation was her line of work, but now she represented something that people either admired, or hated.

At this hour, the café always mellowed out, and she could hear mild chatter and the sound of jazz music. That same track had been on repeat for at least ten minutes, and Lottie had already found herself humming along. Reaching for her hot, bitter cup of dark roast, Lottie had three large gulps of its contents before glancing lazily towards the empty seat across from her.

Lottie chuckled and soon she managed to flash him a small, playful smile. “Kevin,” she repeated, almost as though she was tasting the name on the tip of her tongue as she pulled her coffee closer to her and took a sip of it. “It’s nice to have a name to the face other than ‘The Deep’. I can’t really take it seriously; there’s an aquarium with that name back home.”

Realising all too late that perhaps her words might have offended, she flashed him an apologetic smile before adding, “If I drink another one of these, I’m going to get the jitters. I’m Charlotte, by the way, everyone calls me Lottie.”

His offer of a ‘guide’ might have made her scoff if she didn’t think he was trying his best to be polite. So, with another sip, her emerald eyes met his over the lip of her mug and she asked, “Well, Kevin, what is it about me that makes you think that maybe I need a guide?”

It was supposed to be a morning away from The Deep, to remember himself as Kevin before he was fucking shipped off again. He’d been publically dating The Glacier and it hadn’t improved much and with rumors that she was leaving Vought, he’d probably get the blame. “Here was me thinking no one would recognize me without the suit.” It worked for everyone else, hell, even with a shaved head he looked nothing like his movie posters. He cringed at the thought of an aquarium with his face on it, fish and other animals kept in small, overpopulated tanks. “Is there any Oceandrive stuff at least?” He was hopeful but he knew Vought hadn’t pushed that as much as the corporate stuff. “I don’t know, you’re new to New York and to Vought,” He shrugged. “I’ve been with Vought for years, I skipped the younger groups and went straight to the best so you’ll be in good hands.”

David had been requested in New York, the bright, young, up and coming hero would be placed at the forefront of Vought’s home city, though he still wondered what the occasion would truly be for. Perhaps it was so the company could keep him close, wanting to better his career opportunities by being so close to the home office, or to keep him under a much closer eye instead. Either way, David would comply. New York meant new challenges, a new lifestyle, and a new population to protect, even from themselves.

Once he had arrived in New York, his first stop was the Vought International Headquarters, wishing to get acquainted with those he would soon be working alongside. He wondered whether he would be assigned to work with anyone in particular to form a new group, or simply continue his regime as a more lone wolf type of superhero. He stopped himself before he collided with the building, lowering himself to the lobby entrance, before entering the building. He strode into the building, a bit confused as to where he was supposed to go or who he should report to.

Saving the world was a scary business. Life risking was totally normal, and so was the amount of bruises she always found lining her skin. But this morning? This morning had been the most brutal of them all...

Lottie sighed, a hand gently resting at her throat as she pouted, soothing her vocal cords with her delicate touch. She had spent the past two hours testing her abilities against prototype earplugs. Whilst Lottie's abilities were useful, she had a habit of accidentally deafening teammates temporarily — according to Headquarters, that just wouldn't do. So, she'd spent the entire morning screaming like her namesake, and now she was tired and ready to go get some spaghetti — oo, or a pizza!

She was lost in her food thoughts when she walked right into a man in a mask.

"Oof!" Lottie quickly took a few successive steps back to stop herself from tumbling, as she peered up at the man. She was a little confused, with a side portion of awe — she hadn't seen this guy before, had she?

Los Angeles was nice, warm, and filled with plenty of crimes for him to stop. He had done exceedingly well for himself there, but now he would live in New York, doing who knows what for who in the company. While he was lost in thought, he felt someone bump into him, a red headed girl who he hadn’t seen before, or recognized from any TV spots. Part of him wondered who she was or why she had bumped into him. He looked as she stumbled backwards, moving his hand subtly to further prevent her from falling, giving her a small push back to her feet before she regained her footing on her own.

He looked her over before a smile formed on his face, taking off his mask with ease to see her face to face. He usually only wore his mask when he was flying at high altitudes, not wanting his face to feel extremely cold while he flew through the air at nearly supersonic speeds. He listened to her speak with a comforting smile on his face, wanting to assure her that it was nothing. “Don’t worry, I’m sure me just standing here isn’t doing anyone any favors anyways.” He chuckled, before extending his hand. “Horizon. While I’m not a new hero I’m new here. I’ve been in Los Angeles for most of my career, and the company thought I should get a promotion to New York, rather than keeping me on the other coast.”

Apparently the unfamiliar supe wasn't a dickhead, which made for a welcome surprise. Lottie listened as be explained who he was, where he had come from — so he was new to HQ? That was something she could help with, and probably finding out where he would be staying too...

"Horizon?" she repeated, a smile touching her lips. "Oh yeah, I've heard about you — all good things, of course!" The woman glanced towards the exit of the building, towards the beckoning promise of pizza, before glancing back to Horizon. She could spare some time at least, right?

"Oh I'm basically new here, I'm Lottie— no, wait, Banshee. Lottie, and Banshee. I go by both." As smooth as ever, Lottie gave an awkward eye roll to herself. "Cool costume by the way, I don't have one of those yet."

The Daily Bugle was giving Lottie a headache as of recently, but she still found herself perusing the pages in the hopes of finding information that was somewhat intriguing, or accurate. The young woman flipped through the pages of the newspaper, preferring the physicality of the paper slipping between her fingertips to the scrolling of an article on her phone. The main page listed a story about recent events with the mutants: many were dead, and now they were hated. In true Lottie fashion, her iPad was open and she was fact checking with other sources.

With a sick feeling in the pit of her stomach, Lottie tossed the paper onto he chipped wooden table before glancing around the café she had come to sit in. There was something sickening about what happened, but as always, Lottie found herself sceptical about the reported incidents. Once upon a time, doubt and investigation was her line of work, but now she represented something that people either admired, or hated.

At this hour, the café always mellowed out, and she could hear mild chatter and the sound of jazz music. That same track had been on repeat for at least ten minutes, and Lottie had already found herself humming along. The young woman raised an eyebrow when the famed Supe came to sit beside her, and with a sniff she returned to her scrolling. Frankly, Lottie didn’t enjoy small talk, or awkward situations - she knew of his publicity stunt with his TV girlfriend, the Glacier, and she had no intention to be part of the next headline: In the deep end with another woman?

He spoke to her then, asking about the paper she had so carelessly placed upon the table ahead of her. Without so much as a word, Lottie picked up the paper and held it out to him with a warm grin and a small chuckle. It wasn’t that she disliked company, more so that she didn’t like unannounced company, but at least he was being somewhat polite. You know, except for-

“Sure, here you go.” she spoke softly, gently nudging the paper into his extended hand. “Though I think next time you might benefit from a please.”

The Deep should have been used to people being cautious and a little off with him given everything Starlight had said. Everyone was so quick to believe her and berate him without fulling hearing his side and of course, Vought was the same. They only cared what the press thought, not how it would affect him. “How about I buy you a coffee to make up for my manners?” He didn’t really want the paper but it was as good as any excuse to strike up a conversation. “I’m Kevin by the way and if you need a guide, I can be that guy.”

Just when the world was accepting those who were above them, those who were chosen by God and whoever else they all turned on the mutants of the world more ferociously than before and The Deep couldn’t give two fucks. They were beneath any member of Vought, they were even beneath the fucking sorry excuses of humans they had to meet and smile to every day so the news that they were getting arrested more didn’t phase him. He ordered his usual, dressed in his civilian clothes and grabbed a muffin before sitting next to a red head. Even though his super hero side was dating The Glacier for publicity, that didn’t mean he couldn’t appreciate a good looking woman when he saw one. “Can I borrow that?” He asked with a charming smile, pointing at the paper. “If you don’t mind that is.”
