“we can use your word.” nic offers with a shrug, having been aroundkennedy enough to know that the terms that came with the word he used was probablynot as familiar to them as it was to him. as quickly as the relationship theyheld escalated, nic didn’t feel the need to pull any breaks yet. everythingthey’d done so far had been as innocent and as sweet as they come and kenny’ssoft persona made it easy for nic to relax and not overthink every step of theway. a chuckle dropped from within with their words, it seemed like a patternwhere everything he told kenny meant as a compliment they already had oneprepared for him at the tip of their tongue. not very sure how to reply to thosetypes of things, nic was used to receiving shallow compliments but with kennythey were different. they had a different effect, one that made him feel uneasy in the best way possible and would always come around in his mind when he was feeling down. nic hadtheir kiss at the gala very fresh on his mind as if it’d just happened. in anight full of angst and heavy thoughts kenny had been a light at the end of thetunnel. hard to forget, nic didn’t want to let go of that feeling. “hmm,” hehummed lightly with a cornered and perhaps even shy smile as kenny tugged himcloser and asked him to not talk about other boys. nic had no way of knowingwhat kind of rendezvous kenny got themselves in when he wasn’t at the flowershop or at mobile reach but he was happy enough having him when he could.“sorry, i’ll always want to have you around.” he mumbled gently against theirlips, their closeness and sweetness probably what drawn nic to them the most.he liked being treated this way, it was different from everything else. following kenny to their apartment, he wasglad that ana wasn’t around. she was his boss at the flower shop, she didn’tneed to know what happened outside of it. as he stepped inside he could tellthat at least some of the decoration had kenny’s touch on it. it was cute. “ah,no. not snacks, i’m still full from our little dinner at the fair.” meetingtheir eyes, nic shrugged as he stepped in their direction. “your place is verysweet, i bet you and ana have lots of fun up here.”
nic is so nice. so easy for them to talk to. he never makes them feel silly or unintelligent or ‘ weird ’ or unimportant. he makes them feel confident in nearly the same way that the bubbly strawberry champagne had done. “ thank you, ” they murmur gently but it’s not his agreement that they’re thanking him for. it’s everything. it’s the cotton candy he’d bought for them and the big stuffed animal he’d won. it’s the kiss on the ferris wheel that had fulfilled kenny’s ‘ movie moment ’ whim and it’s carrying them on his back after a long and, frankly, beautiful night together. their heart hasn’t stopped fluttering since the moment their evening had began and they doubt it’s going to stop any time soon, not with the way that nic’s watching them and humming and looking all kinds of pretty even in the relatively crappy lighting of kenny and ana’s relatively crappy apartment ( they say that endearingly ). it’s saying a lot that they actually believe him when he says such a nice thing. no one always wants kennedy around -- they’re even worried jasper, their best friend in the world, will tire of them eventually. nic saying something so lovely and genuine makes their cheeks heat up in a deep flush and it doesn’t go away even after they’re settled inside the apartment. they’re hyperaware of the state of their residence having an actual prince inside its walls. their things are fairly easy to spot -- pastel and cutesy and entirely disorganized. most of their belongings are contained to the bedroom but that’s a place kenny’s not sure they’re entirely ready to show nic. yet. the more they just gaze at him in awe, the more they realize they like him so much, so so much, it just might be worth being a little risky. “ we do. it’s good for movie nights and baking adventures and stuff. ” they close the gap in between them slightly with a daring step towards nic. small hands grab the fabric at the front of his shirt and lightly but insistently tug him closer until they’re chest to chest as they had been out in the front doorway. kennedy nibbles on their own lip in a bout of nervous energy and shuffles their weight from one foot to the other before tipping their head back and up towards him. “ it’ll be even more fun now that you’re here, ” they all but whisper before sneaking another soft kiss from his lips.
