Reasons why I ship D and Doris:
Doris being one of the few people who doesn't fear, idealize or hate him for what he is and treats him as a person
D one of the few people who respects her capabilities and sees her beyond societal prejudices and misogyny
Both of them have seen each other at their worst and stayed (Doris feeling helpless after getting bitten and almost getting her autonomy fully stripped, D almost losing control due to bloodlust and succumbing to his nature)
I think they’re each other’s safe space because Doris doesn’t have to be strong all the time around him and show her more vulnerable and feminine side, and D doesn’t have to “look behind his back” in case she is scheming against/manipulating him and can be an ordinary man
professional relationship —> personal (I know he does almost every mission personal but that he's fond of the siblings)
they’re not naive and know the tragic reality of their relationship because of the circumstances they’re in
D showed Doris that she doesn’t have to carry the burden alone and learn to rely on someone, Doris showed D the (possibility of) ordinary life where he could be/feel included without judgment
opposites attract each other while trust, values and respect align
the possibility that they can push each other to become a better version of themselves (Doris teaches D to be less detached and feel more “openly” (not too internalized, more accepting towards his own emotions or down to earth ) and D teaching Doris to have a more steady composure towards her emotions (not letting her emotions rush her and take her time to process it while thinking what she is doing next))
they can live without the other and still have fond memories
Doris’s love for D is not a naive fleeting infatuation and is described or implied to be enduring and genuinely deep given the time skip (atp, I think D is her first and last love of her life because if Dr. Tsurugi, a green flag man, can’t make Doris move on from D then probably no one can)
I think they left a deep impression on each other ( D seeing Doris’s courage, resilience and humanity despite all the bad things and still not consumed by hatred or bitterness, Doris seeing D’s unshakable will, loyalty to the point of risking his own life for others (it depends) and kindness that doesn’t ask for anything in return)
I think they probably would understand the other how it feels like to be the object of desire or idealization because of their good looks instead of being treated like a person, and they would see each other beyond that
they would accept each other’s flaws that are a part of them and not what defines them
Doris isn’t selfish to follow D in his journey because she has Dan and the farm and is willing to let him go, D still wants her to live a happy life even if it’s without him (because he doesn’t want to condemn her with him)
the kiss scene already debunks all pretense of professional relationship and deal
they would definitely call each other out on their bullshit and get under each other’s skin
as far as I have seen, I feel like D has the closest chemistry with Doris than any other woman regarding romantic feelings
a lot of plot potentials (for me)
power imbalance is possible but due to their personalities, it's less likely that they abuse the other
