Fun Fact: Back before Shinigami Eyes became transphobic in itself, I was one of the trans who went out of their way to scroll through TERF tags and their posts' notes to mark people as transphobic. That's why I've seen a lot of TERF ideology and know some of the things they get up to... The issue with TERFs compared to other bigots is that they actually are kinda well-read and do actively coordinate recruitment campaigns, like alt-right 4channers but if they actually understood what Marxism is.
I know we all joke about how, at the end of the day, they are bigots and they are patently ludicrous... But I'm just giving fair warning that they can be pretty devious and they purposefully keeps tabs on trans discourse to exploit us when we're all feeling vulnerable. They are, in fact, responsible for many of the ban waves over the years (yes, including of other marginalised folk like Black people), they purposefully coordinate to create narratives like "transmascs are banning transfems", and they make accounts where they build rapport for months with trans people to gradually radicalise people.
Again, at the end of the day, they genuinely believe in the large gamete being important or whatever and freak out over women who don't wear makeup... But they also gets in fights with one another when a TERF goes too mask off and ruins their painstaking efforts to build a respectable movement. They were REALLY mad when the term "TERF" was invented, because it kind shot down their efforts to coordinate in a way they never really recovered from by portraying them as weirdos obsessed with what's in people's pants... Which they are.
I guess the horrible thing is that they are people, like us. They have their own lives and they decided a part of it was to destroy transness. It is scary what people can do when they've decided on a goal like that, which is why you have to respond with an equal or greater measure of intellectual rigor.
So basically, my rules are... Don't interact with TERFs, and if you do then don't give them *any* ammunition to ban or harass you, and also talk to them with the assumption that others will see your responses (both people directly observing and people who will see screenshots). You will notice that TERFs rarely directly say "kill yourself" or "shut up tranny" because they know that's TOS, they use dog whistles trying to bait you into doing it.
Like, I am not saying this as if I have sympathy for them or think it's our fault for being banned (I obviously think the ones conducting these mass hate campaigns should be the ones banned), but it's not impossible to minimise their capacity to harm us. Youz gotta look out for yourself.
Actually, I lied. I do want to note that people are like... "Who are the mysterious people banning people?" And I don't think I've said this aloud but like... Of the bigots we know are on this site (tradwives, MAGA people, conservative Christrians, TERFS, etc) who do you think is the one who is actually smart enough to pull that off. "Surely it's the men!! Of course it's the men!!!" Okay, they are liek conspiracy theorists who think the moon landing was fake, so try again.

Older Tumblr users have known this for years and have been begging the Staff to do something about this to no avail. Tumblr Discourse Cycles are always hotbeds for TERF recruitment without fail - there has yet to be one that didn't dovetail neatly into radfem ideology. TERFism is also, as BIPOC bloggers have pointed out, really white supremacist.
If you actually got rid of the TERFs, many of our problems would disappear overnight; it'd be a massive change to the Tumblr ecosystem... But they don't because TERFs are the only ones who pay upfront to keep Tumblr running, because this has been their home base for years the same way the alt-right's home base is 4chan, it'd be kinda detrimental for them if this site died lol.

So, first day in, I was very disturbed by people sending in death threats to someone who... If taken in good faith, appeared to be financially struggling, traumatised, and venting her experiences in an unproductive way. This was triggering to me as a victim (emphasising triggering, I was not thinking clearly and should not have taken her in good faith), so I sent in the following submission which is still up as of typing https://www.tumblr.com/transmascvoicesproject/822076032309968896:

Just a bit intriguing that it appears that she was purposefully stirring up aggression towards bigender folk (she did not delete this reply or respond to it otherwise afaik) and has now changed her pronouns to she/her exclusively (previously he/she) conveniently after I sent a follow-up ask calling her out on her patterns of behaviour (though she does have plausible deniability, she says she changed her pronouns to avoid being malgendered).
She did not post my ask despite noting at some point she would post "hate" to make a point about the harassment she's receiving, blocked me, and put me in a list of supposedly violently harassers and victim blamers... Like ohhh yes, that'll protect your ass from getting called out for weaponising nonbinary people's experiences for your transphobia, just block me and hope I don't make a post exactly like this... Whoops.

All of this specifically reads heavily of TIRFism (trans inclusive radical feminism). It's a strain of radical feminism that purports to be inclusive of trans people, as a way to recruit "AFABs" into TERF ideology. The goal is create a demographic of detransitioners that can be weaponised to advocate their victimhood at the hands of trans women (or "AMABs" when they're being "inclusive") and will further recruit more TIRFs who bond over their shared transness...
Do not fall for this! Regardless of if they're really trans, that is NOT your ally, they are trying to detransition you! Do not give them your stories like I made the mistake of doing, they will twist them into tools of violence against ALL trans people!
And if transmascvoicesproject has a problem with being called a TIRF, she can take the steps to materially distance herself from TERF ideology to prove everyone wrong. It is, however, not our problem if she does not want to help herself, and her pattern of behaviour speaks louder than her empty platitudes.

The reason is because radicalising pipelines are very dependent on the sunk cost fallacy, and TERFs purposefully post (or doctor) excessive amounts of violent hatred from trans women to make people feel they will be punished for admitting they partook in transmisogynistic communities. TIRFs specifically make trans people feel so ostracised and scrutinised on all sides they start to dissociate from their identity, which is what creates trans men and enbies willing to swallow the constant misgendering of TERF ideology (hence why I emphasise that misgendering is not a privilege, it is abuse in itself).
TIRFs are very purposefully trying to get their foot in the door of current discourse, because it has a perfect pool of "AFABs" feeling isolated they can indoctrinate... And I am just here to say that you have to watch the fuck out for them, identify their radicalisation process when it's happening, and get out before you seriously get hurt. Yes, some people will critique you for falling for something that was "obviously transmisogyny" but what's more important is to not become a transmisogynist period.
You made a mistake, you can't take that back, but you can get wise and you can warn others. Fuck TIRFs for trying to turn trans people against one another, fuck them for using our feelings against us.
I also guess I make this to be like... Hey, so, your number one goal when you are dealing with recruiters is to not feed into their narratives. They are purposefully baiting harassment not just to get your accounts nuked but to create the evidence that their ideology is correct. You are not arguing WITH them, you are arguing FOR them - they are talking to their followers, not you, when they respond.
That person who said transfemmascs don't belong in the community was genuinely screwed up and enbyphobic, the people saying the blogger is lying about being raped is abhorrent, the people telling her to kill herself communicates to your peers the means you might go to to put THEM in their place if they disagree with you... Like, at some point, you do start to tread over the line from things being out of your control (bad actors manipulating your actions against you) to things being *in* your control (demonstrating conditional acceptance of your peers' experiences).
TIRFs bank on you hating them more than you love trans people. It should be clear that I'm exceedingly disappointed in TIRFs and hold them accountable for their actions, whilst acknowledging the violence necessary to radicalise trans people into being TIRFs.
It is also stomach churning knowing my fellows dolls aren't keeping themselves safe and putting themselves in the line of fire - which materially puts them at risk of harassment, doxxing, banning, etc from TERFs. You cannot stop TERF harassment campaigns, but please limit your interactions with TERFs directly because they DO look back over everything you post to find things to get your account banned for "genuine" reasons. Telling bigots to kill themselves is not hurting the morale of the bigot, and it only gives them direct proof you have violated the TOS. It's not worth ittt, I love youuu.

TRF (trans radical feminist) and TMRA (trans men's rights activist) ideology attracts white supremacists because both of them have a vested interest in denying binary privilege (the privilege afford to those conforming to gender binarism) exists: founded upon the political theory of Black people and disproportionately, systemically affecting BIPOC who are racially genderised (e.g feminisation of east asians) or are seeing their nonbinary culture violently erased by colonisation/imperialism/capitalism.
The unstated fact of the statistics, more reliable than the varying cultural acceptance of transfeminity or transmasculinity, is that those outside the binary are persistently erased (not included, assimilated into the binary, results declared as "trans women/men and nonbinary people" as opposed to "nonbinary people") and POC consistently end up on the bottom.
The efforts to fit these into binary frameworks despite the contradictions, when the evidence keeps indicating the framework that has existed for years (social construction, NOT essentialism) is to protect oneself from this inevitable realisation. Binary trans are wounded from being demoted to the place of the nonbinary and would like to tell the people who never saw the benefits they did (the enbies, inrersex, GNC, POC who still couldn't use the bathroom, still denied freedom of transition, still harassed off social media, still oppressed) that they can't speak on their unique ostracisation, that we are transphobic and don't deserve a place in the community... The irony is lost on them.
These are my present conclusions on the current discourse based on everything I've observed.

Sorry this was made in a bit of a rush... I am currently homeless so if anyone could help with expenses to at least avoid moving back in with my negligent parents and keep on top of medical costs (testosterone for transition & PMOS management, anti-psychotics to avoid the psych-ward, necessary specialist appointments, over the counter medication for pain management) it'd be appreciated! Even if you're only paying the minimum, paracetamol costs liek maybe $10 for good value so it still works out good for me.

Not only is Squidge still around, it's expanded and grown! It is still run by the same guy, though now it's a nonprofit with a board and everything, and while they maintain all the old squidge sites as static archives, they have a new multifandom archive using the AO3 code at squidgeworld.org. They also host podfics and fanart.
For those younguns in the crowd, back in the day erotic fanworks--especially slash--was not welcome very many places. Walter was willing to host it, and has been a haven for NSFW fanworks since 1994. The various archives and so on hosted at squidge.org were never very large, compared to lots of other archives, but they were a necessary part of the fannish ecosystem, and I'm really glad that there is now a structure in place to keep the whole system running beyond just "Walter's a great guy willing to donate lots of time and money." Walter is a great guy! but like. it's good to have other people to help out and keep things going in the long run.
Anyways I know its been put off for forever but a proepr commisison sheet n everything should be up in like... 2-3 days maybe. itll be a pay what you want deal where ill list standard prices but you can pay less if youre dirt ass broke (you just wont be at the front of the queue).
